During recent years, long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been recognized as key regulators in the development and progression of human cancers, however, their roles in osteosarcoma metabolism are still not well understood. The present study aims to investigate the expression profiles and potential modulation of specific lncRNA(s) in osteosarcoma metabolism. The high-throughput Hiseq sequencing was performed to screen for abnormally expressed lncRNAs in osteosarcoma cells cultured under glucose starvation condition, and lncRNA HAND2-AS1 was eventually identified as one that was significantly up-regulated when compared with normal cultured cells.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of naturally occurring, small, non-coding RNAs that target protein-coding mRNAs at the post-transcriptional level and participate in various biological processes. Our previous studies suggested that miR-143-3p functions as a tumor suppressor and has a role in the progression of ovarian cancer, in part through the regulation of the tumor promoter. In this study, we found that the mRNA expression level of miR-143-3p was significantly decreased in ovarian cancer tissues, in comparison with normal ovarian tissues by high-throughput miRNA profiling and quantitative RT-PCR.

The transcription factor, Grainyhead-like 2 (GRHL2), is involved in wound healing, epidermal integrity, and epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in various biological processes; however, the biological function of GRHL2 in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is unknown. In the current study, we investigated the effect of GRHL2 on cell growth and migration in NSCLC cell lines and clinical tissues. Immunohistochemical analysis of clinical NSCLC specimens revealed that patients with high GRHL2 expression were associated with poor prognosis compared to patients with low GRHL2 expression.

Chondrogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells is regulated by many different pathways. Recent studies have established that hypoxia and epigenetic alterations potently affect expression of chondrogenesis marker genes. Sox9 is generally regarded as a master regulator of chondrogenesis and microRNA-124 (miRNA-124) regulates gene expression in murine bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells.

Insulin resistance is associated with obesity and type 2 diabetes. The aim of this study was to explore the mechanism of how Astragalus Polysaccharides (APS) improves insulin resistance in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. A cell culture model of insulin resistance was established in mature 3T3-L1 adipocytes by treating them with TNF-α, high glucose and insulin.
