Photoelectrochemical (PEC) detection has attracted intensive attention during the past decade. Currently, most research focuses on improving the sensitivity and selectivity of the PEC sensor, but the issue of the stability of the photoelectrode material under the testing environment is often ignored or lacks in-depth investigation. Herein, we develop a novel CuV2O6 photoelectrode exhibiting superior stability under the testing environment through self-passivation.

Effects of chromosomal abnormalities on pregnancy outcomes in female undergoing artificial insemination with donor's sperm.

This study aimed to evaluate the clinical characteristics, pregnancy outcomes and prognostic factors for pregnancy of female with chromosomal abnormalities (CAs) after artificial insemination with donor's sperm (AID) treatment.A retrospective case-control study was analyzed by using the data of 29 female patients with CA and 116 controlled patients with normal karyotype (1:4 ratio) who underwent AID cycles at Guangdong Family Planning Special Hospital from January 2011 to December 2017. In all cases, reproductive histories were collected, and the cytogenetic analysis was performed by Trypsin-Giemsa banding and karyotyping.

Using the Delphi Method to Construct a Promotion Plan for Clinical Nurse Specialists.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to design a quantitative evaluation of the promotion plan for clinical nurse specialists in China.

Design: The evaluation indexes were selected and established by inquiring 22 experts and using the analytic hierarchy process. The promotion plan was sent to 22 specialized nurses.

Storage Time of Cryopreserved Embryos and Pregnancy Outcomes: A Dose-Response Meta-Analysis.

Cryopreservation techniques have become an essential part of assisted reproduction technology. Embryos may be cryopreserved for several years before transfer, and the safety of long-term cryopreservation needs to be considered. This dose-response meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate whether there were dose-response relationships between the storage time of cryopreserved embryos and pregnancy outcomes such as survival rate, implantation rate, miscarriage rate, clinical pregnancy rate, and congenital malformation rate.

SUMOylation promotes extracellular vesicle-mediated transmission of lncRNA ELNAT1 and lymph node metastasis in bladder cancer.

Small ubiquitin-like modifier (SUMO) binding (termed SUMOylation) emerged as the inducer for the sorting of bioactive molecules into extracellular vesicles (EVs), triggering lymphangiogenesis and further driving tumor lymph node (LN) metastasis, but the precise mechanisms remain largely unclear. Here, we show that bladder cancer (BCa) cell-secreted EVs mediated intercellular communication with human lymphatic endothelial cells (HLECs) through transmission of the long noncoding RNA ELNAT1 and promoted lymphangiogenesis and LN metastasis in a SUMOylation-dependent manner in both cultured BCa cell lines and mouse models. Mechanistically, ELNAT1 induced UBC9 overexpression to catalyze the SUMOylation of hnRNPA1 at the lysine 113 residue, which mediated recognition of ELNAT1 by the endosomal sorting complex required for transport (ESCRT) and facilitated its packaging into EVs.

Iron intake with the risk of breast cancer among Chinese women: a case-control study.

Objective: The current study evaluated the associations between different forms and sources of Fe and breast cancer risk in Southern Chinese women.

Design: Case-control study. We collected data on the consumption of Fe from different forms and food sources by using a validated FFQ.

[Treatment outcome of 100 patients with hepatoblastoma based on a new risk stratification].

To provide the risk stratification method of hepatoblastoma (HB) suitable for implementation in China and explore the new treatment method for high-risk HB patients. A total of 100 cases of children and adolescents under 18 years old with newly diagnosed HB in Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center and Sun Yat-sen University First Affiliated Hospital from September 2014 to September 2018 were included. According to the clinical stage, AFP level, pathological subtype and other factors, patients were stratified into four groups: extremely low-, low-, intermediate- and high-risk.

Relapsing polychondritis: an unusual cause of sore throat, painful ear swelling and bilateral costal margin pain.

A 54-year-old Chinese woman presented with a 3-month history of sore throat and dry cough, which was treated as chronic pharyngitis with minimal improvement. One month ago, she presented with painful right ear swelling without signs or symptoms of otitis media or otitis externa. She was treated with antibiotics and antiviral drugs without any improvement.

Serum isoflavones and lignans and odds of breast cancer in pre- and postmenopausal Chinese women.

Objective: Isoflavones and lignans are phytoestrogens present in plant-based foods, which have a potential preventive effect on breast carcinogenesis. The effects of phytoestrogens on breast cancer may differ according to the hormonal environment. This case-control study aimed to investigate the association between serum phytoestrogens and odds of breast cancer among Chinese pre- and postmenopausal women.

New screening approach to detecting congenital syphilis in China: a retrospective cohort study.

Background: Diagnosis of congenital syphilis (CS) is not straightforward and can be challenging. This study aimed to evaluate the validity of an algorithm using timing of maternal antisyphilis treatment and titres of non-treponemal antibody as predictors of CS.

Methods: Confirmed CS cases and those where CS was excluded were obtained from the Guangzhou Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of syphilis programme between 2011 and 2019.

Phenotype and genotype spectra of a Chinese cohort with nephronophthisis-related ciliopathy.

Background: Nephronophthisis-related ciliopathies (NPHP-RC) account for the majority of cases of monogenetically caused end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in children. Exploring the correlation between the phenotype and genotype of NPHP-RC is helpful for early diagnosis and management. We investigated the phenotype and genotype spectra of NPHP-RC in a Chinese multicentre cohort.

Brain Activity during Visual and Auditory Word Rhyming Tasks in Cantonese-Mandarin-English Trilinguals.

It is unclear whether the brain activity during phonological processing of second languages (L2) is similar to that of the first language (L1) in trilingual individuals, especially when the L1 is logographic, and the L2s are logographic and alphabetic, respectively. To explore this issue, this study examined brain activity during visual and auditory word rhyming tasks in Cantonese-Mandarin-English trilinguals. Thirty Chinese college students whose L1 was Cantonese and L2s were Mandarin and English were recruited.

Increased copy number of syncytin-1 in the trophectoderm is associated with implantation of the blastocyst.

Background: A key step in embryo implantation is the adhesion to and invasion of the endometrium by the blastocyst trophectoderm. The envelope proteins of HERV-W and -FRD (human endogenous retrovirus-W and -FRD), syncytin-1 and syncytin-2, are mainly distributed in the placenta, and play important roles in the development of the placenta. The placenta originates from the trophectoderm of the blastocyst.

A Modified VATS Procedure for Treating Adult Intralobar Pulmonary Sequestration.

Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) makes it possible to treat intralobar sequestration (ILS) more minimally invasive compared with conventional open surgery. However, this procedure is challenging to expose and isolate the aberrant arteries of ILS and the risk of bleeding is high. Herein, we developed a modified VATS procedure in which the aberrant vessels are treated in the last step of lobectomy, rather than at the beginning.

Geographical disparities in the prognosis of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma treated with intensity-modulated radiation therapy: a large institution-based cohort study from an endemic area.

Objectives: Geographical disparities have been identified as a specific barrier to cancer screening and a cause of worse outcomes for patients with cancer. In the present study, our aim was to assess the influence of geographical disparities on the survival outcomes of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) treated with intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT).

Cabozantinib-based combination therapy for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma.

Objective: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common type of primary liver cancer with limited treatment options. Cabozantinib, an orally bioavailable multikinase inhibitor is now approved by Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for HCC patients. We evaluated the therapeutic efficacy of cabozantinib, either alone or in combination, in vitro and in vivo.

A Modified Beagle Model of Inducible Atrial Fibrillation Using a Right Atrium Pacemaker.

Objective: To modify the chronic atrial fibrillation of atrial tachycardia pacing in beagles with a homemade pacemaker placed outside the body and to evaluate connective tissue growth factor and fibrosis of atrial tissue in our modified atrial tachycardia pacing beagle model.

Methods: Twelve adult beagles of either sex were randomly divided into an atrial tachycardia pacing group and a control group (n=6 in each group). We performed the temporary pacemaker implantation at the right atrial appendage and put the pacemaker into the pocket of dog clothing in the atrial tachycardia pacing group.

Introduction: The prevalence of hyperuricaemia in peritoneal dialysis patients is quite high. Studies have demonstrated a correlation between hyperuricaemia and cardiovascular disease and treatment of hyperuricaemia reportedly reduces cardiovascular risk in patients with chronic kidney disease. However, whether hyperuricaemia treatment benefits cardiovascular outcomes in continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) patients is not yet known.

Long-term tracking of fasting blood glucose variability and peripheral artery disease in people without diabetes.

Introduction: Long-term changes of fasting blood glucose (FBG) in relation to lower-extremity peripheral artery disease (lower-extremity PAD) in people without diabetes has barely been reported. Our study aimed to investigate the association between FBG variability and the incidence of lower-extremity PAD in people without diabetes.

Research Design And Methods: We included 7699 participants without prior lower-extremity PAD and diabetes from the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities study in the final analysis.

Fiber Type-Specific Morphological and Cellular Changes of Paraspinal Muscles in Patients with Severe Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis.

BACKGROUND Paraspinal muscle (PSM) has been suggested to have a role in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). Few studies have investigated the fiber type-specific changes of PSM in detail. MATERIAL AND METHODS Bilateral multifidus muscles were harvested from the apical vertebra level (T7-T10) of 12 AIS patients and 6 control individuals.

Knowledge, attitudes and eye health-seeking behaviours in a population-based sample of people with diabetes in rural China.

Aims: To assess knowledge of diabetes and acceptance of eye care among people with diabetes in rural China, to improve service uptake.

Methods: Population-based study of people in Guangdong, China, with glycosylated haemoglobin A1c≥6.5% and/or known history of diabetes.
