Article Synopsis
  • Guanine-quadruplex structures (G4s) are important in how cancer grows, and a protein called DHX36 helps to disrupt them, but its role in breast cancer was unclear.
  • The study found that higher levels of DHX36 in breast cancer patients were linked to better survival, while lowering DHX36 levels in mice with breast cancer led to increased tumor growth and cell invasiveness.
  • The researchers suggest that DHX36 acts like a tumor suppressor, meaning it helps prevent cancer growth, and it could be a good target for new treatments in breast cancer.

Glioma is a common primary brain malignancy with a poor prognosis. Chemotherapy is the first-line treatment for brain tumors but low efficiency of drugs in crossing the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and drug resistance related to tumor hypoxia thwart its efficacy. Herein, a theranostic nanodrug (iRPPA@TMZ/MnO) is developed by incorporating oleic acid-modified manganese oxide (MnO) and temozolomide (TMZ) into a polyethylene glycol-poly(2-(diisopropylamino)ethyl methacrylate-based polymeric micelle containing internalizing arginine-glycine-aspartic acid (iRGD).

Background: The bilateral recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) lymph nodes are the most common metastatic site for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC); however, the RLNs are susceptible to injury during dissection. Clinically, there is an urgent need to determine an effective diagnostic method for RLN nodes to help achieve selective nodal dissection and avoid potential serious complications by performing more conservative surgery for those with nonmetastatic nodes. Here, we innovatively applied endobronchial ultrasonography (EBUS) and investigated its diagnostic performance for preoperative evaluation of RLN nodes in ESCC patients.

Background: Consecutive exposure to high-dose remifentanil during anesthesia may induce remifentanil-induced postinfusion hyperalgesia (RPH). Dexmedetomidine, a highly selective α2-adrenergic receptor agonist, may have synergistic effects with opioids and aid in perioperative pain management. In this study, we hypothesized that an intraoperative bolus dose of intravenous dexmedetomidine could alleviate RPH in patients undergoing thyroidectomy under general anesthesia.

We report the synthesis and characterization of novel pentamethylcyclopentadienyl (Cp*) iridium(III) complexes [(Cp*)Ir(4-methyl-4'-carboxy-2,2'-bipyridine)Cl]PF6 (Ir-I), the product (Ir-II) from amide coupling of Ir-I to dibenzocyclooctyne-amine, and its conjugate (Ir-CP) with the cyclic nona-peptide c(CRWYDENAC). The familiar three-legged 'piano-stool' configuration for complex Ir-I was confirmed by its single crystal X-ray structure. Significantly, copper-free click strategy has been developed for site-specific conjugation of the parent complex Ir-I to the tumour targeting nona-cyclic peptide.
