Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is an aggressive B-cell lymphoma that occurs in some patients with gastric and intestinal involvement, but esophageal involvement is rare, and involvement of the entire gastrointestinal (GI) tract is even rarer. The endoscopic manifestations of MCL are mainly nodular or polypoid lesions. We report a rare case of MCL containing esophageal involvement of the entire GI tract with multiple endoscopic findings.

  • Scientists studied a special RNA called LBX2-AS1 to see how it helps glioblastoma (a type of brain cancer) grow and spread.
  • They found that LBX2-AS1 levels are higher in glioblastoma and it helps the cancer cells to grow, move, and create new blood vessels.
  • The research showed that LBX2-AS1 works with a protein called NFKB1 to activate another protein called IL4R, which makes the cancer worse and could give ideas for new treatments.

Dysferlinopathy is an autosomal recessive disorder caused by mutations in the DYSF gene. This study reported two homozygous adjacent missense mutations in the DYSF gene, presenting clinically with bilateral lower limb weakness and calf swelling. Two homozygous adjacent missense mutations in the DYSF gene may be associated with the development of dysferlinopathy, but the exact mechanism needs further investigation.

Ferroptosis: a potential target for the treatment of atherosclerosis.

Acta Biochim Biophys Sin (Shanghai)

March 2024

School of Medicine, Yangtze University, Jingzhou 434020, China.

Atherosclerosis (AS), the main contributor to acute cardiovascular events, such as myocardial infarction and ischemic stroke, is characterized by necrotic core formation and plaque instability induced by cell death. The mechanisms of cell death in AS have recently been identified and elucidated. Ferroptosis, a novel iron-dependent form of cell death, has been proven to participate in atherosclerotic progression by increasing endothelial reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels and lipid peroxidation.

Pulmonary Embolism after Botulinum Toxin Treatment for Leg Muscle Hypertrophy.

Plast Reconstr Surg Glob Open

February 2024

From the Department of Plastic Surgery, Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University, Wuhan, Hubei Province, China.

Leg muscle hypertrophy is a unique physical symptom in East Asian women. Compared with traditional surgical treatment for calf muscle hypertrophy, botulinum toxin is widely favored by East Asian women because of its minimal trauma and significant effects. We describe the case of a 22-year-old woman with pulmonary embolism because of deep vein thrombosis, who presented with hypertrophy of bilateral calf muscles, and was administered 300 U of botulinum toxin A injection in July 2022.

We investigated aging-related changes in nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate-diaphorase (NADPH-d) in the spinal cord of aged dogs. At all levels of the spinal cord examined, NADPH-d activities were observed in neurons and fibers in the superficial dorsal horn (DH), dorsal gray commissure (DGC) and around the central canal (CC). A significant number of NADPH-d positive macro-diameter fibers, termed megaloneurites, were discovered in the sacral spinal cord (S1-S3) segments of aged dogs.

Protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) is one of the most common serine/threonine phosphatases in mammalian cells, and it primarily functions to regulate cell signaling, glycolipid metabolism and apoptosis. The catalytic subunit of PP2A (PP2Ac) plays an important role in the functions of the protein. However, there are few reports on the regulatory role of PP2Ac in pancreatic β-cells under lipotoxic conditions.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compared the effectiveness and safety of a 10-day vonoprazan-amoxicillin (VA) therapy versus a 14-day rabeprazole-amoxicillin (RA) therapy for treating Helicobacter pylori infections in new patients.
  • Results showed that the eradication rates were similar, with 89.3% for VA and 84.9% for RA, confirming that VA is non-inferior to RA.
  • Compliance was important for treatment success, and using vonoprazan led to a shorter treatment duration and less antibiotic use, making it a preferable option for first-line H. pylori therapy.

Venous Thrombus Embolism in Polytrauma: Special Attention to Patients with Traumatic Brain Injury.

J Clin Med

February 2023

Department of Trauma Surgery, Tongji Trauma Center, Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan 430030, China.

Venous thrombus embolism (VTE) is common after polytrauma, both of which are considered significant contributors to poor outcomes and mortality. Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is recognized as an independent risk factor for VTE and one of the most common components of polytraumatic injuries. Few studies have assessed the impact of TBI on the development of VTE in polytrauma patients.

NFIC attenuates rheumatoid arthritis-induced inflammatory response in mice by regulating PTEN/SENP8 transcription.

Tissue Cell

April 2023

Department of Spinal Surgery, Suizhou Central Hospital, Hubei University of Medicine, Suizhou, Hubei 441300, PR China. Electronic address:

Objective: To explore whether nuclear factor I C (NFIC) alleviated inflammatory response of synovial fibroblasts (SFs) caused by rheumatoid arthritis (RA) by regulating transcription levels of phosphatase and tension homolog deleted on chromosome 10 (PTEN) and sentrin-specific protease 8 (SENP8).

Methods: NFIC, PTEN, and SENP8 levels in RASFs and normal SFs (NSFs) were measured by qRT-PCR and western blotting. The levels of Bax, Bcl-2, MMP-3, and MMP-13, as well as the content of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and malondialdehyde (MDA) were determined in RASFs and NSFs using western blotting and ELISA.

Growing evidences indicate DNA methylation plays a crucial regulatory role in inflammation, innate immunity, and immunotherapy. However, the overall landscape of various DNA methylation regulatory genes and their relationship with the infiltration of immune cells into the tumor microenvironment (TME) as well as the response to immunotherapy in gliomas is still not clear. Therefore, we comprehensively analyzed the correlation between DNA methylation regulator patterns, infiltration of immune cell-types, and tumor immune response status in gather glioma cohorts.
