The growth and continuing evolution of care needs, linked in particular to the aging of the population and the increase in chronic illnesses, have prompted the Canton of Vaud to promote innovative care models and new professional profiles, including recognition of the role of nurse practitioner (NP). Unisanté is actively involved in promoting and integrating this new role, with the support of the canton. A postgraduate training program for primary care NPs is currently being developed, and the opening of an innovative health center has made it possible to establish this role in the primary care medical practice.

Paracentral acute middle maculopathy is a lesion of the inner nuclear layer and outer plexiform layer of the macula associated with local or systemic vascular diseases that can induce retinal hypoxia. The etiologic mechanism may be related to the increase in intraocular pressure which creates conditions of hypoperfusion in the retinal vasculature. We present a case that shows a possible association between paracentral acute middle maculopathy and glaucoma with the trauma of elevated intraocular pressure as a triggering event.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined SARS-CoV-2 immunity in Cameroon from August 2021 to September 2022, assessing changes in antibody levels, mortality rates, and vaccination.
  • Seroprevalence surged from 11.2% to nearly 60% while COVID-19-related deaths dropped dramatically, indicating improved immunity without a corresponding rise in vaccinations.
  • The findings suggest that high vaccination rates may not be necessary for controlling outbreaks in Africa, urging policymakers to consider local research for better epidemic management strategies.

In the speech and language therapy clinic, it is difficult to disentangle developmental language disorders from insufficient exposure. Dynamic assessment, which directly tests the learning potential of children, offers a promising solution for this dilemma.

In type 2 diabetes, the launch of gliflozins (or SGLT2i), like each new therapeutic class, is generating a great deal of hope and is being heavily marketed. The pivotal studies show a beneficial effect on the risk of hospitalization for heart failure and, to a lesser extent, on the decline in renal function. The impact on physiological factors (weight, glycated hemoglobin, blood pressure) is modest, and the side-effect profile is relatively heavy, particularly in the elderly (frequent urogenital infections, ketoacidosis, etc.

Systemic thrombolysis is the first-line treatment for patients with high-risk pulmonary embolism or with haemodynamic deterioration on anticoagulation alone; however, it is associated with a high bleeding risk. No randomized trials comparing the two treatments are available to date.
