The oblique popliteal ligament (OPL), chief posterior support of the knee, is an extension of the semimembranosus (SM) tendon and runs superolaterally to the lateral femoral condyle. Due to variations and immense functional value of the OPL, the present study was undertaken to explore the OPL morphology and morphometry. Thirty cadaveric lower limbs were dissected to observe the OPL in the floor of the popliteal fossa, and its general shape, number of bands and extensions were noted.

Purpose: To identify the exact time point during after following pterygium excision with a modified technique of sutureless, glueless limbal-conjunctival autograft, when stabilization of the change in corneal curvature is achieved; correlate size of pterygium with uncorrected visual acuity and astigmatism at baseline, and assess changes in these parameters postoperatively over time.

Methods: This prospective study longitudinally assessed 30 eyes of 30 north Indian adults with primary pterygium encroaching upon ≥1 mm of the cornea pre- and postoperatively at 1 week and then monthly for 4 months, recording uncorrected (UCVA) and best-corrected logMAR visual acuity, astigmatism and keratometry. Results were analyzed using ANOVA, Mauchly's test of sphericity with Greenhouse-Geisser correction, and post-hoc test using Bonferroni correction.

We present an adult female in whom two-dimensional transthoracic echocardiography demonstrated encroachment of the thoracic spine on the left atrium (LA) resulting in a very small, compressed LA cavity by a prominent thoracic spine shadow. Computed tomography (CT) scan of the chest showed compression of the LA produced by localized anterior deformation of the thoracic spine which had resulted from blunt injury to her spine following a fall from a swing several years previously.

Lung India

October 2012

Department of Respiratory Medicine, Chhatrapati Shivaji Subharti Hospital, Subharti Medical College, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India.

Kartagener's syndrome is a rare, autosomal recessive genetic ciliary disorder comprising the triad of situs inversus, chronic sinusitis, and bronchiectasis. The basic problem lies in the defective movement of cilia, leading to recurrent chest infections, ear/nose/throat symptoms, and infertility. We hereby report three unusual cases of this rare entity - an infertile male with azoospermia in whom Bochdalek's diaphragmatic hernia coexisted, another case of an infertile female, and a third of an infertile male with oligospermia.
