Swedish physician and anatomist Professor Per-Ingvar Brånemark (1929-2014), often known as Sir Brånemark, discovered the osseointegration phenomenon that revolutionized the dental implantology field. Even though he was an orthopedic surgeon, Sir Brånemark's groundbreaking contributions to dentistry in the form of the Brånemark System of dental implants established the groundwork for modern fixed prosthodontics. The dental community still values his efforts today.

Within the realm of prosthodontics, the challenge of replacing multiple missing teeth is a complex one, compounded by patient's preference for fixed prostheses over removable ones owing to their superior aesthetic and functional attributes. However, the feasibility of fixed prostheses diminishes in scenarios marked by compromised remaining dentition and defects in edentulous regions. To navigate these challenges effectively, the Andrew's bridge emerges as a compelling solution, integrating both fixed and removable components.

Subsequent to dental extraction, residual ridge resorption manifests as an inherent biological process unfolding over an approximate duration of one year. This intrinsic phenomenon entails a substantial diminution, occasionally reaching 50%, in the initial bucco-lingual dimensions of the mandibular bone. To address this issue, a dental procedure known as the two-stage ridge split intervention is employed.
