Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) play a pivotal role in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, with their clinical application often hindered by cell senescence during expansion. Recent studies suggest that MSC-deposited decellularized extracellular matrix (dECM) offers a conducive microenvironment that fosters cell proliferation and accentuates stem cell differentiation. However, the ability of this matrix environment to govern lineage differentiation of tissue-specific stem cells remains ambiguous.

Thorac Cancer

November 2023

The Second Department of Thoracic Oncology, Hunan Cancer Hospital/The Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Xiangya School of Medicine, Central South University, Central South University, Changsha, People's Republic of China.

Article Synopsis
  • The RET gene is a receptor tyrosine kinase involved in cell growth and differentiation; its fusion is a rare but poor-prognosis alteration in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
  • Two selective inhibitors, pralsetinib and selpercatinib, have been approved for treating RET fusion NSCLC, showing effectiveness against resistance to other treatments.
  • Effective patient screening for RET fusion is vital, utilizing methods like NGS, RT-PCR, FISH, and IHC, with the goal of standardizing approaches to improve diagnosis and therapy outcomes.

Thorac Cancer

September 2023

Department of Medical Oncology, Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China, Collaborative Innovation Center for Cancer Medicine, Guangzhou, China.

Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is a malignant tumor originating from the pleura, and its incidence has been increasing in recent years. Due to the insidious onset and strong local invasiveness of MPM, most patients are diagnosed in the late stage and early screening and treatment for high-risk populations are crucial. The treatment of MPM mainly includes surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy.

Aim: Deficit schizophrenia (DS), defined by primary and enduring negative symptoms, has been proposed as a promising homogeneous subtype of schizophrenia. It has been demonstrated that unimodal neuroimaging characteristics of DS were different from non-deficit schizophrenia (NDS), however, whether multimodal-based neuroimaging features could identify deficit syndrome remains to be determined.

Methods: Functional and structural multimodal magnetic resonance imaging of DS, NDS and healthy controls were scanned.

December 2022

Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery, Subei People's Hospital of Jiangsu Province, Yangzhou 225001, China.

Diabetic foot is one of the serious complications of diabetic patients, which makes the society and public health bear a huge economic burden. In recent years, more and more studies at home and abroad have been conducted on the treatment of chronic wounds with autologous platelet-rich fibrin, and the therapeutic concepts and methods have been updated constantly. In this paper, we reviewed the general situation of autologous platelet-rich fibrin, the mechanism of autologous platelet-rich fibrin in promoting the healing of diabetic foot ulcers and the new progress in its application, so as to provide a new strategy for the repair of diabetic foot ulcers.

Articular cartilage has a limited capacity to self-heal once damaged. Tissue-specific stem cells are a solution for cartilage regeneration; however, expansion resulting in cell senescence remains a challenge as a large quantity of high-quality tissue-specific stem cells are needed for cartilage regeneration. Our previous report demonstrated that decellularized extracellular matrix (dECM) deposited by human synovium-derived stem cells (SDSCs), adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs), urine-derived stem cells (UDSCs), or dermal fibroblasts (DFs) provided an solution to rejuvenate human SDSCs in proliferation and chondrogenic potential, particularly for dECM deposited by UDSCs.

Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) possesses tyrosine kinase activity and participates in cell growth, differentiation and migration, and survival. Its alterations, mainly including mutations, amplifications, and overexpression are associated with poor prognosis and are one of the major drivers in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Several clinical trials had been investigating on the treatments of HER2-altered NSCLC, including conventional chemotherapy, programmed death 1 (PD-1) inhibitors, tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) and antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), however, the results were either disappointing or encouraging, but inconsistent.

Bioinformatics analysis identification of and as key genes in postmenopausal osteoporosis.

Exp Ther Med

November 2022

Department of Orthopedics, Subei People's Hospital of Jiangsu Province, Clinical Medical College of Yangzhou University, Hanjiang, Yangzhou 225001, P.R. China.

Postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMO) is an aging-associated disease that manifests as degradation of bone tissue microstructure leading to decreased bone mass and increased bone fragility. Differentiation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells into osteoclasts is an important process in the development of PMO and identification of key genes that drive differentiation is essential to reveal the mechanism of PMO. The present study combined bioinformatics analysis of a Gene Expression Omnibus dataset of PMO and drug (bisphosphonate) target prediction using the STITCH database to identify hub genes in patients with PMO.
