Background: This study aims to detect Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTBC) DNA in intraocular fluid from clinically suspected tuberculous uveitis patients using multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and investigate the diagnostic utility of multiplex PCR for tuberculous uveitis.

Methods: Primers targeting three specific genes (MPB64, CYP141, and IS6110) within the MTBC genome were designed. Multiplex PCR was conducted using DNA from the H37Rv strain as well as DNA extracted from fluids of confirmed tuberculosis patients to assess primer specificity and method feasibility.

Though several anti-PD-1/PD-L1 antibodies approved for monotherapy in microsatellite instability-high or mismatch repair-deficient unresectable/metastatic solid tumors, novel immunotherapy with better anti-tumor activity is needed in clinic. In this single-arm, multicenter, pivotal, phase II study, patients received iparomlimab (a novel humanized anti-PD-1 mAb, 200 mg or 3 mg/kg for patients with body weight < 40 kg, IV, Q3W) until disease progression, intolerable toxicities, withdrawal of consent, death, or up to 2 years. The primary endpoint was objective response rate (ORR) assessed by independent radiological review committee (IRRC).

Int J Surg

September 2024

Center of Interventional Radiology & Vascular Surgery, Department of Radiology, Zhongda Hospital, Medical School, Southeast University, Nanjing, China.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compares the effectiveness and safety of radiation-emitting metallic stents (REMS) combined with hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (HAIC) versus self-expandable metallic stents (SEMS) with HAIC for patients with unresectable perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (pCCA).
  • Results showed that patients using REMS-HAIC had a median overall survival of 10.2 months, significantly longer than the 6.7 months for SEMS-HAIC.
  • Additionally, REMS-HAIC demonstrated better time to symptomatic progression and stent patency, while having an acceptable safety profile, with no major differences in jaundice relief or severe adverse events between the two groups.

State Key Laboratory of Molecular Oncology, CAMS Key Laboratory of Translational Research on Lung Cancer, Department of Medical Oncology, National Cancer Center/National Clinical Research Center for Cancer/Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Beijing, China. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • Research seeks to improve chemotherapy and PD-1 inhibitors for advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) by analyzing circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) from 460 patients in the CHOICE-01 study.
  • Key predictive markers such as ctDNA status, tumor mutational burden, and chromosomal instability were identified to tailor treatment strategies for better patient outcomes.
  • An integrated ctDNA-based stratification system, called blood-based genomic immune subtypes (bGIS), offers a new way to personalize therapies and monitor treatment responses in advanced NSCLC patients.

To analyze the correlation between changes in the concentration of glyphosate (GLY) and its metabolites (AMPA) in patients with acute glyphosate poisoning and clinical symptoms, and to provide reference for the study of glyphosate toxicity. Urine samples from 5 patients with oral glyphosate poisoning admitted to the Emergency Department of Yangzhou Third Class A General Hospital from February to July 2021 were collected. Urine concentrations of GLY and AMPA were measured using derivatization gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, and analyzed based on the patient's clinical manifestations and treatment process.

Article Synopsis
  • A phase III clinical trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of different radiation doses (high vs. standard) and irradiation fields (involved field vs. elective nodal) on survival outcomes for patients with locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC).
  • Results indicated that there were no significant differences in overall survival (OS) or progression-free survival (PFS) between the different irradiation fields, but the high-dose treatment suggested an improvement in PFS compared to the standard dose.
  • The best prognostic outcomes were observed in the high-dose with involved field group (HD+IFI), while the standard dose with involved field group (SD+IFI) had the worst outcomes, and no substantial differences in severe adverse events were

December 2024

Department of Endocrinology, Jiangnan University Medical Center, Affiliated Wuxi Clinical College of Nantong University, Wuxi No.2 People's Hospital, Wuxi, P. R. China.

Emerging data have revealed that damage to tubular epithelial cell is a driving force in the progression of diabetic kidney disease (DKD). However, the specific mechanisms by which lipotoxicity contributes to the injury of these cells, thereby influencing the development of DKD, are yet to be fully understood. Here, we analyzed the GSE 30529 microarray datasets of human tubulointerstitial tissue samples from the Gene Expression Omnibus database (GEO).
