Myocardial infarction (MI) is a multifactorial polygenic disease that develops as a result of a complex interaction of numerous genetic factors and the external environment. Accordingly, the contribution of each of them separately is usually not large and may significantly depend on the state of other accompanying factors. The purpose of the study was to search for informative predictors of MI risk based on polygenic analysis of polymorphic variants of (1) the antioxidant defense enzyme genes PON1 (rs662), PON2 (rs7493), CAT (rs1001179), MSRA (rs10098474) and GSTP1 (rs1695); (2) the apoptosis genes CASP8 (rs3834129), TP53 (rs1042522) and BCL2 (rs12454712); and (3) the inflammation genes CRP (rs1205), CX3CR1 (rs3732378), IL6 (rs1800795) and CCL2 (rs1024611).

A quantum theory of spin dynamics in the rare-earth orthoferrites excited by terahertz laser pulses is developed. The study demonstrates that dynamic magnetic configurations, triggered by a light pulse, exhibit stability even after the excitation source is ceased. The magnitude of post-excitation oscillations is linked to the ratio between the frequency of rare-earth ion excitations and the frequency of the external source.

Alzheimer's disease affects an average of 5 % of the population with a significant increase in prevalence with age, suggesting that the same mechanisms that underlie aging may influence this pathology. Investigation of these mechanisms is promising for effective methods of treatment and prevention of the disease. Possible participants in these mechanisms are transposons, which serve as drivers of epigenetic regulation, since they form species-specific distributions of non-coding RNA genes in genomes in evolution.

The eradication of Plasmodium parasites, responsible for malaria, is a daunting global public health task. It requires a comprehensive approach that addresses symptomatic, asymptomatic, and submicroscopic cases. Overcoming this challenge relies on harnessing the power of molecular diagnostic tools, as traditional methods like microscopy and rapid diagnostic tests fall short in detecting low parasitaemia, contributing to the persistence of malaria transmission.

A comparative analysis was conducted to evaluate the effects of seed priming with endophytic bacterium 10-4 (BS) on the hormonal system and cell wall tolerance (lipid peroxidation (LPO), electrolyte leakage (EL), and root lignin deposition) of two L. (wheat) varieties with contrasting drought sensitivities (Ekada 70-drought-tolerant (DT); Salavat Yulaev-drought-sensitive (DS)) under normal conditions and 12% polyethylene glycol-6000 (PEG)-induced osmotic stress. The results showed that under normal conditions, the growth stimulation in wheat plants by BS was attributed to changes in the hormonal balance, particularly an increase in endogenous indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) accumulation.

Studies of the genetic base and polymorphism of bread wheat cultivars aimed at identifying alleles of genes associated with high baking and other economically valuable traits seem to be relevant, since bread wheat, along with all representatives of the Triticeae tribe, has a huge genetic potential for creating cultivars with high technological and rheological properties of grain flour. The aim of this study was sequencing and analysis of the nucleotide sequences of the Glu-B1-1 gene, and analysis of the predicted amino acid sequences of its protein product in three cultivars of bread wheat. Thus, in the course of genotyping cultivars and lines of bread wheat for the Glu-B1-1 gene, in the cultivars 'Avesta', 'Leningradka krupnozernaya' and line C-75094, previously undescribed changes in the size of amplifiable regions of the Glu-B1-1 gene for high-molecular weight glutenins were found.

This work aims to study the conditions of topological phase transition (TPT) between the topological and trivial states in the antiferromagnetic topological insulator (AFM TI) MnBi[Formula: see text]Te[Formula: see text] and propose some theory about the relationship of this TPT with the possibility of axion-like state realization in this material. Using the density functional approach we have analyzed the changes in the electronic and spin structure of topological surface states (TSSs) and the nearest conduction and valence bands (CB and VB) including the changes in the bulk band gap as well as the Dirac point (DP) gap in TSSs under variation of the spin-orbit coupling strength in the region of the TPT for infinite crystal and slab with a surface both. We have shown that in both cases the TPT occurs with inversion of the contributions of the Bi-[Formula: see text] and Te-[Formula: see text] states of different parity at the gap edges related to change in the gap sign.

The most widespread abiotic stress factors limiting significantly plant growth and crop yield are drought, salinity, hypo-, hyperthermia, and an excess of heavy metal (HM) ions. Data on the accumulation of endogenous NO under stress factors and on the alleviation of their negative effects under exogenous NO treatments indicate the perspectives of its practical application to improve stress resistance and plant productivity.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe risk of depression could be evaluated through its multifactorial nature using the polygenic score (PGS) approach. Assuming a "clinical continuum" hypothesis of mental diseases, a preliminary assessment of individuals with elevated risk for developing depression in a non-clinical group is of high relevance. In turn, epidemiological studies suggest including social/lifestyle factors together with PGS to address the "missing heritability" problem.
