Stretch marks or striae distensae (SD) cause emotional distress and negatively affect the psychological well-being of patients. We investigate and compare two methods for quantifying the severity of SD: visual scoring of images captured using a clinical visible-light dermatological camera (C-Cube, Pixience Inc) and measuring the local birefringence of skin using polarization-sensitive optical coherence tomography (PS-OCT). Data on skin visually affected by SD and visually normal skin were collected from 19 human volunteers.

Striae distensae, or stretch marks, are common linear lesions of atrophic skin characterized histologically by epidermal atrophy, absent rete ridges, and alterations in connective tissue architecture. Hormonal excess, mechanical stress, and genetic predisposition are all associated with striae distensae, but their exact pathogenesis remains unknown. Despite a multitude of options, no single treatment has yet proven effective.

Medications used in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease cause a wide range of dermatologic side effects, and minimal guidance exists on how to manage them. The intention of this review article is to summarize common dermatologic adverse reactions related to inflammatory bowel disease therapy and to provide evidence-based guidance on management. We conducted a scoping review using PubMed and Google Scholar to identify studies reporting clinical information on dermatologic side effects of medications used in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease.

Striae distensae (SD) or stretch marks are among the most common forms of atrophic scarring and cosmetic problems, especially in women, that negatively affect quality of life. The main causes of SD vary widely, but the most significant ones include obesity, pregnancy, high corticosteroid levels, weight changes, endocrine disorders and genetic predispositions. Various modalities are available for the treatment of SD; however, there is still no gold standard therapy for this condition.

Background: Stretch marks are linear scars that result from elastic fiber destruction. They usually occur as the consequence of rapid change in the body mass (weight gain and loss, pregnancy, weightlifting), long-term steroid use, or endocrinopathies. Treatment is challenging and mainly based on topical and procedural therapies, although the standard of care is still under debate.

Background And Objectives: The efficacy of picosecond laser (PSL) in the treatment of striae distensae (SD) has been recently reported; otherwise, the base for this improvement has not been clarified yet. The aim of this study is to treat long-lasting SD with PLS and to describe their in vivo morphological variations after treatment using three-dimensional (3D) imaging and reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM).

Study Design/materials And Methods: A total of 27 patients asking for treatment for SD were treated with four monthly sessions of PLS.

Introduction: Striae distensae (SD) appear clinically as parallel striae, lying perpendicular to the tension lines of the skin. SD evolve into two clinical phases, an initial inflammatory phase in which they are called "striae rubrae" (SR) and a chronic phase in which they are called striae albae (SA). Fibroblasts seem to play a key role in the pathogenesis of stretch marks.
