Feasibility and acceptability of wearing a neuromodulation device at night in individuals in recovery from opioid use disorder.

Introduction: Opioid use disorder (OUD) is a serious and persistent problem in the United States with limited non-pharmacological treatment options, especially for the concomitant sleep disorders experienced by most individuals with addiction. While new, non-invasive interventions such as low-intensity focused ultrasound (LIFU) have shown promise in targeting the brain regions impacted throughout addiction and recovery, the devices used are not amenable to outpatient treatment in their current form factor and cannot be used at night during sleep. To bridge this gap and provide a much-needed treatment option for repeated, at-home use, we developed a wearable LIFU device out-of-clinic use.

The Meaningful Engagement Assessment for Residents with Dementia in Assisted Living Settings.

Providing meaningful activity is a critical dimension of person-centered care for residents with dementia in all settings, including assisted living. Defined broadly as participation in physical, social, and leisure activities that provide meaning and value to the person and are tailored to individualized interests and preferences, meaningful activity has implications for well-being, mental health, cognition, and physical function. Assisted living residents with dementia would benefit from having more opportunities to engage in meaningful activity.

Using best practice guidelines in the literature, nurse educators can develop, implement, and evaluate transition programs for FEN practicing in the United States.

Elite athletes' subjective wellbeing trajectories throughout the retirement transition: an analysis using Ruthven's (2022) transition model.

Aims: Utilizing Ruthven's (2022) transition model, we explored how identity, voluntariness, and reason for retirement are related to subjective wellbeing throughout an athlete's retirement.

Methods: 541 participants completed an anonymous, online survey and estimated their wellbeing starting before retirement and up to the present. A set of linear mixed models regressed the seven wellbeing outcomes on the three measures, with education, gender, and time since retirement as covariates.

Testing the feasibility and preliminary efficacy of Meaningful Activity for Managing Behavioral Symptoms of Distress (MAC-4-BSD) intervention for residents with dementia in assisted living: Protocol description.

The purpose of this manuscript is to describe the protocol for an Alzheimer's Association-funded cluster randomized trial that focuses on engaging assisted living residents with dementia in meaningful activity to help address their behavioral symptoms of distress using a theoretically based approach, Meaningful Activity for Managing Behavioral Symptoms of Distress (MAC-4-BSD). The development of MAC-4-BSD was based on the Social Ecological Model and Social Cognitive Theory. The MAC-4-BSD intervention includes the following four steps: (1) Assessment of the assisted living physical environment and policies to facilitate meaningful activity; (2) Education of staff about implementation of meaningful activity; (3) Assessment of resident preferences and goals for meaningful activity; (4) Mentoring and motivating staff and residents to facilitate engagement in meaningful activity.

Examining pain, function, behavioral symptoms and associations with engagement in meaningful activity for residents with dementia in assisted living.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine factors associated with engagement in meaningful activity among residents with dementia in assisted living. We hypothesized that greater functional independence, less pain, and lower behavioral and psychological symptom severity would be associated with higher engagement in meaningful activity after controlling for residents' age, gender, comorbidities, and cognition. Understanding factors associated with engagement in meaningful activity can help to inform strategies for optimizing engagement among residents with dementia in assisted living.

A method for simulating forward falls and controlling impact velocity.

Assessment of protective arm reactions associated with forward falls are typically performed by dropping research participants from a height onto a landing surface. The impact velocity is generally modulated by controlling the total height of the fall. This contrasts with an actual fall where the fall velocity is dependent on several factors in addition to fall height and not likely predictable at the onset of the fall.

Method: Scoping review developed in accordance with the JBI methodology, carried out in three stages by two reviewers independently on selected databases and gray literature, using keywords and descriptors. After reading them in full, we proceeded with data extraction and content analysis of 28 publications.

Effects of Visual Input Absence on Balance Recovery Responses to Lateral Standing Surface Perturbations in Older and Younger Adults.

Although the ability to recover balance in the lateral direction has important implications with regard to fall risk in older adults, the effect of visual input on balance recovery in response to lateral perturbation and the effect of age are not well studied. We investigated the effect of visual input on balance recovery response to unpredictable lateral surface perturbations and its age-related changes. Ten younger and 10 older healthy adults were compared during balance recovery trials performed with the eyes open and eyes closed (EC).

Lichen planus is a distinctive mucocutaneous disease with well-established clinical and histopathologic criteria. Lichenoid eruptions closely resemble lichen planus and may sometimes be indistinguishable from it. Systemic agents previously associated have included medications, viral infections and vaccines.

Neuromechanical control of impact absorption during induced lower limb loading in individuals post-stroke.

Decreased loading of the paretic lower limb and impaired weight transfer between limbs negatively impact balance control and forward progression during gait in individuals post-stroke. However, the biomechanical and neuromuscular control mechanisms underlying such impaired limb loading remain unclear, partly due to their tendency of avoiding bearing weight on the paretic limb during voluntary movement. Thus, an approach that forces individuals to more fully and rapidly load the paretic limb has been developed.

Student Attitudes Contribute to the Effectiveness of a Genomics CURE.

The Genomics Education Partnership (GEP) engages students in a course-based undergraduate research experience (CURE). To better understand the student attributes that support success in this CURE, we asked students about their attitudes using previously published scales that measure epistemic beliefs about work and science, interest in science, and grit. We found, in general, that the attitudes students bring with them into the classroom contribute to two outcome measures, namely, learning as assessed by a pre- and postquiz and perceived self-reported benefits.

Despite the increasing emphasis on interdisciplinarity in higher education, science courses only rarely extend to content outside of the STEM discipline. The latent structure of the adult attachment interview: Large sample evidence from the collaboration on attachment transmission synthesis.

The Adult Attachment Interview (AAI) is a widely used measure in developmental science that assesses adults' current states of mind regarding early attachment-related experiences with their primary caregivers. The standard system for coding the AAI recommends classifying individuals categorically as having an autonomous, dismissing, preoccupied, or unresolved attachment state of mind. However, previous factor and taxometric analyses suggest that: (a) adults' attachment states of mind are captured by two weakly correlated factors reflecting adults' dismissing and preoccupied states of mind and (b) individual differences on these factors are continuously rather than categorically distributed.
