Introduction: Clinical and preclinical data suggest accelerated bone fracture healing in subjects with an additional traumatic brain injury (TBI). Mechanistically, altered metabolism and neuro-endocrine regulations have been shown to influence bone formation after combined fracture and TBI, thereby increasing the bone content in the fracture callus. However, the early inflammatory response towards fracture and TBI has not been investigated in detail so far.

The purpose of this study was to determine whether the addition of anterior inferior tibiofibular ligament (AITFL) suture repair or suture tape (ST) augmentation provides any biomechanical advantage to the operative repair of an isolated syndesmotic injury.
Methods: Twelve lower leg specimens underwent biomechanical testing in 6 states: (1) intact, (2) AITFL suture repair, (3) AITFL suture repair + transsyndesmotic suture button (SB), (4) AITFL suture repair + ST augmentation + SB, (5) AITFL suture repair + ST augmentation, and (6) complete syndesmotic injury.

Background: Distal tibial allograft glenoid augmentation has been introduced as a viable treatment approach for glenoid bone loss in conjunction with shoulder instability. No previous study, however, has assessed the morphologic variation of the distal tibia at the incisura as it relates to graft dimensions for glenoid augmentation. Increased concavity at the lateral distal tibia necessitates removal of the lateral cortex to obtain a flat surface, which may have implications for the strength of surgical fixation.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFMassive, irreparable rotator cuff tears are challenging to treat and associated with pain and severe limitation in shoulder elevation due to the proximal migration of the humeral head and, consequently, subacromial impingement. Furthermore, retraction of the tendons in combination with fat infiltration and muscular weakness results in unpredictable treatment outcomes. While conservative treatment may be warranted for low-demand patients, surgical treatment is often indicated for a successful return to activities of daily living as well as an improved quality of life.

Distal biceps tendon ruptures present with an initial tearing sensation accompanied by acute pain; weakness may follow. The hook test is very reliable for diagnosing ruptures, and magnetic resonance imaging can provide information about the integrity and any intrasubstance degeneration of the tendon.
