Introduction: Coffee is a complex brew that contains several bioactive compounds and some of them can influence blood pressure (BP) and endothelial function (EF), such as caffeine and chlorogenic acids (CGAs).

Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the acute effects of coffee on BP and EF in individuals with hypertension on drug treatment who were habitual coffee consumers.

Methods: This randomized crossover trial assigned 16 adults with hypertension to receive three test beverages one week apart: caffeinated coffee (CC; 135 mg caffeine, 61 mg CGAs), decaffeinated coffee (DC; 5 mg caffeine, 68 mg CGAs), and water.

Effects of pulmonary rehabilitation on ventilation dynamics measured during exertion in patients with post-acute COVID-19 syndrome: A cross-sectional observational study.

Background: Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) is recommended in people with post-acute COVID-19 syndrome (PACS), although there is a lack of studies evaluating its benefits via the most commonly used primary endpoint: the six-minute walk test (6MWT). This study evaluated the effects of PR on the dynamics of ventilation measured during the 6MWT in patients with PACS and, secondarily, evaluated the association of these findings with measures of lung function and structure.

Methods: This was an observational cross-sectional study of patients with PACS, in which 33 had undergone PR (PR-PACS group) and 32 had not undergone PR (NPR-PACS group).

New data from 2225 father-son duos and data from 44 previously published reports, corresponding to 25,729 duos, were collected and analyzed. Plastic leachates have chemical and biological implications for marine environments. This study experimentally evaluated acute effects of weathering plastic leachates (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100 %) on fertilization and early development of the sea urchin Lytechinus variegatus. The relevance of the optional use of fasting in laboratory measurements that make up the lipid profile: A systematic literature review.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of fasting easing on laboratory measurements of the lipid profile, in order to contribute to the fidelity of interpretation of laboratory results. Starting in October 2022, a Systematic Literature Review (SRL) was carried out, using articles indexed in the electronic databases PubMed/MEDLINE, EMBASE, Scopus, LILACS and Cochrane Library, following the guidelines of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyzes Group (PRISMA). Genetic variants on non-recombining DNA and the hierarchical order in which they accumulate are commonly of interest. This variant hierarchy can be established and combined with information on the population and geographic origin of the individuals carrying the variants to find population structures and infer migration patterns. Further, individuals can be assigned to the characterized populations, which is relevant in forensic genetics, genetic genealogy, and epidemiologic studies.
