Exploring the Interplay Between Catastrophizing and Endometriosis Pain Through Two-Wave and Intensive Longitudinal Data.

Background: Endometriosis, characterized by the presence of endometrial-like tissue outside the uterus, results in chronic pelvic pain. However, lesion characteristics alone cannot fully explain the complexity of endometriosis-related pain. Pain catastrophizing, a cognitive process that influences pain perception, has traditionally been studied through cross-sectional or two-wave designs, which struggle to capture its dynamic interplay with endometriosis pain.

Aquaculture, specifically farmed fish, contributes to global aquatic fish stuff production. The present study systematically reviewed mercury levels in farmed fish. One hundred two scientific articles were found in four databases.

Palm and interesterified palm oil-enhanced brown fat whitening contributes to metabolic dysfunction in C57BL/6J mice.

Palm oil is widely used in the food industry owing to its high stability and versatility. The interesterified version has been used as an alternative to oils rich in trans fatty acids. However, the health effects of these vegetable oils are not yet fully understood.

Radiofrequency Ablation for Solitary Autonomously Functioning Thyroid Nodules: Multicenter Study from Latin America.

Autonomously functioning thyroid nodules (AFTNs) represent ∼5% of all thyroid nodules and often necessitate definitive treatments such as surgery or radioiodine (I), both of which have inherent risks. Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) has emerged as an effective and safe therapeutic option for managing AFTNs. This study aims to assess the effectiveness and safety of RFA for solitary AFTNs in various countries across Latin America.

Effects of a pre-enlargement on fracture incidence of reused reciprocating instruments: A clinical study.

This study assessed the impact of pre-enlarging the root canal using a size 25 K-file on the fracture incidence of three reciprocating instruments after multiple uses. After a glide path performed with a size 15 K-file, the instruments (Reciproc R25, Reciproc Blue R25, and WaveOne Gold Primary) were initially used in 936 root canals. Then, for the second and third uses (933 and 927, respectively), a pre-enlargement using a size 25 K-file at the working length was done.

A systematic review and meta-analysis of users versus non-users: unveiling the influence of proton pump inhibitors on capecitabine efficacy in colorectal cancer.

Introduction: Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. The impact of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) on patients taking capecitabine, an oral fluoropyrimidine, remains uncertain, despite their use by 20 to 55% of cancer patients. We investigated how PPIs affect the effectiveness of capecitabine in treating colorectal cancer.

Clinical Response to Joint Infiltration With Bone Marrow Aspirate in Hip Osteoarthritis: A Systematic Review and Single-arm Meta-analysis.

Background: Hip osteoarthritis is a joint disease that causes  worsening pain and inhibits activities of daily living. Due to poor pain control and the function of usual clinical treatment, joint infiltration with orthobiologics is a therapeutic alternative. Among these, bone marrow aspirate (BMA) represents a cellular therapy with promising clinical results.

Disordered Eating Behaviors and Weight Regain in Post-Bariatric Patients.

Background/objective: Weight regain has serious health consequences after bariatric surgery, and disordered eating behaviors (EBs) may be involved in it. We compared disordered EB symptoms in post-bariatric patients according to low vs. high ratio of weight regain (RWR) and investigated associations between disordered EB symptoms with weight regain and time since surgery.

Background: Ependymomas account for 6% to 10% of childhood central nervous system tumors. This study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of proton radiotherapy in intracranial ependymoma patients.

Introduction: Scalp seborrheic dermatitis (SSD) is a chronic, relapsing, and inflammatory condition impacting quality of life (QoL). This study evaluated the efficacy and impact on QoL of a 1% selenium disulphide-containing shampoo (SeS shampoo) compared to a 2% ketoconazole shampoo.

Methods: This multi-centric, double-blinded, randomized 4-week study was conducted in 64 adult subjects with moderate to severe SSD (SSD severity score (SSSD) > 6).

Changes in the Glittre-ADL test in patients with non-small cell lung cancer: Pre- and postoperative analysis after home-based rehabilitation: A preliminary study.

Background And Objective: Postoperative pulmonary rehabilitation in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients following thoracic surgery can be an important strategy for restoring functional exercise capacity. This study aimed to evaluate the changes in the Glittre-ADL test (TGlittre) in patients with NSCLC undergoing thoracic surgery and early home-based pulmonary rehabilitation and, subsequently, to assess the associations of the test results with muscle strength and quality of life (QoL).

Methods: This observational study evaluated 18 patients with NSCLC before and after home-based pulmonary rehabilitation.

Model for predicting drug resistance based on the clinical profile of tuberculosis patients using machine learning techniques.

Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease caused by the bacterium and despite effective treatments, still affects millions of people worldwide. The advent of new treatments has not eliminated the significant challenge of TB drug resistance. Repeated and inadequate exposure to drugs has led to the development of strains of the bacteria that are resistant to conventional treatments, making the eradication of the disease even more complex.

Associations among chronotype and eating habits in adolescents are affected by study shift: A cross-sectional study.

We investigated the influence of chronotype on eating habits among adolescents attending schools with morning (07:00 hours-12:00 hours) or afternoon (13:00 hours-18:00 hours) shifts, hypothesizing that incompatibility of study schedules may be related to dietary choices. In this cross-sectional study, 734 adolescents (aged 14-19 years) completed an online questionnaire covering eating habits, chronotype, sleep duration, social jet lag, socioeconomic data, physical activity and anthropometric measures. Odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals were estimated using adjusted logistic regression, stratified by study shift.

Effectiveness of care provided by an itinerant community caregiver in reducing the burden and violence of family caregivers of impaired elderly in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: A randomized clinical trial.

Introduction: The aging population and the rise in chronic diseases are linked to a higher number of elderly individuals with impairments. These individuals often depend on family caregivers for basic daily activities, which can impose a significant burden and increase the risk of violence against them.

Objective: To assess the effectiveness of itinerant community caregivers (ICC) in reducing burden, depression and risk of violence among family caregivers of impaired elderly (FCIE), while also increasing their social support.

Micro-computed tomographic evaluation of dentinal microcracks in response to progressive taper enlargement in root canals of maxillary molars.

Aim: To investigate the development of dentinal microcracks resulting from the progressive enlargement of the buccal canals of maxillary molars with and without the MB2 canal employing instruments with the same tip and four different tapers.

Methodology: Twenty maxillary molars with (n = 10) and without (n = 10) the MB2 canal underwent micro-CT scanning. Their mesiobuccal and distobuccal canals were sequentially enlarged using nickel-titanium instruments with sizes 25/.

Analgesic effect of lateral femoral cutaneous nerve block to the pericapsular nerve group (PENG) block in primary total hip arthroplasty: a randomized clinical trial.

Background: Adequate hip joint and surgical incision analgesia represent a challenge in the postoperative period of primary total hip arthroplasty (THA). This study aimed to evaluate whether the combination of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve block (LFCN block) and the pericapsular nerve group block (PENG block) influences postoperative analgesia and rescue opioids, in primary THA surgeries.

Methods: A trial was proposed with 74 patients for THA surgeries under spinal anesthesia, where 37 received PENG block (GPENG) and the other 37, PENG block and LFCN block (GPENG+LFC).

Maternal schooling and child's age interaction and its association with ultra-processed food consumption in Brazilian children <5 years of age: Results from the Brazilian National Survey on Child Nutrition (ENANI-2019).

Background: The consumption of ultra-processed foods (UPFs) has increased worldwide, including among children. Maternal schooling has been associated with children's UPF consumption. The present study examined the interaction between maternal schooling and child age in the association with UPF consumption in Brazilian children <5 years.

The dichotomic role of cytokines in aging.

The chronic inflammation present in aged individuals is generally depicted as a detrimental player for longevity. Here, it is discussed several beneficial effects associated with the cytokines that are chronically elevated in inflammaging. These cytokines, such as IL-1β, type I interferons, IL-6 and TNF positively regulate macroautophagy, mitochondrial function, anti-tumor immune responses and skeletal muscle biogenesis, possibly contributing to longevity.

Genotoxicity analysis of a flame retardant, aluminum diethylphosphinate.

Flame retardants, crucial for fire prevention, are used worldwide, but they are considered to be 'emerging contaminants' and may pose risks to human and environmental health. Aluminum diethyl phosphinate (ALPI) is a halogen-free flame retardant. To evaluate the toxicity of this compound, the following assays were performed: Salmonella/microsome mutagenicity assay; toxicity assays with two endpoints (mitochondrial dehydrogenase activity, plasma membrane integrity); micronucleus assay with human hepatoma cell line HepG2.

Radiometric evaluation of Ouratea miersii (Planch.) Engl. From the Municipal Natural Park of Niterói, Brazilian Atlantic Rainforest remnant.

Concern about radiation exposure to non-human biota and the environment has increased since the 1990s, resulting in several publications by UNSCEAR, IAEA, ICRP, among other agencies, which highlighted significant gaps in knowledge regarding non-human biota and resulted in the establishment of Reference Animals and Plants (RAPs). In Brazil, the Atlantic Forest biome has vast biodiversity, but there is a lack of information on the radiometric profile of plant species growing there. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the radiometric profile of Ouratea miersii (Malpighiales), endemic to the Atlantic Rainforest, collected in the State of Rio de Janeiro, city of Niterói, at the Municipal Natural Park (PARNIT), which covers a region of protected Atlantic Rainforest.
