Floodplains function as global hotspots for the natural production of methane. Some of this methane can be oxidized by methanotrophic bacteria and assimilated into their biomass before reaching the atmosphere. Consequently, aquatic invertebrates that feed on methanotrophic bacteria may transfer methane-derived carbon to higher trophic levels in the aquatic food chain.

Members of the phospholipase D (PLD) superfamily found in Loxosceles spider venoms are potent toxins with inflammatory and necrotizing activities. They degrade phospholipids in cell membranes, generating bioactive molecules that activate skin cells. These skin cells, in turn, activate leukocytes involved in dermonecrosis, characterized by aseptic coagulative necrosis.

As a pre-fermentative practice, cold may facilitate the extraction of grape compounds, resulting in differentiated wines. To explore the potential of these practices, extensive research has been conducted on scientific publications since 2004. There are four main ways to apply cold in pre-fermentative practices: ice wine production, berry freezing, cold maceration of grape must, and cryoconcentration of grape must.

Fibromyalgia (FM) patients present impaired cardiac autonomic regulation during maximal exercise; however, it is unknown whether these alterations also manifest during submaximal exercise. The aim of this study was to compare the on-transient heart rate (HR) response and HR variability during a constant-load submaximal cycling exercise between FM and control (CON) women. Ten women with FM (age: 45.

Loxoscelism is the pathological condition triggered by a brown spider bite. The venom of these spiders is rich in phospholipases D (PLDs), which can induce virtually all local and systemic manifestations. Recombinant mutated PLDs from clinically relevant Loxosceles species in South America have been investigated as potential antigens to develop novel therapeutic strategies for loxoscelism.

Inoculation of Azospirillum in maize has become a standard practice in Latin America. However, information on the behavior and population survival of the Azospirillum post-inoculation is scarce, making standardization difficult and generating variations in inoculation efficiency across assays. In this study, we tracked the colonization of three agriculturally relevant Azospirillum strains (Ab-V5, Az39, and the ammonium excreting HM053) after different inoculation methods in maize crops by qPCR.

Purpose: To compare the development of fatigability during a moderate-intensity cycling exercise between women with fibromyalgia (FM) and control women (CON) after acute ingestion of caffeine and placebo.
Methods: Ten FM and 10 CON women performed a 30-min moderate-intensity cycling exercise 1 h after the ingestion of a capsule containing either caffeine or a placebo. Fatigability and its central and peripheral determinants were determined via changes from pre- to post-15 and post-30 min of exercise in maximal voluntary isometric contractions, voluntary activation (VA), and quadriceps potentiated twitch torque ( Qtw-pot ), respectively.

This study describes the bioaccessibility in terms of total phenolic content (TPC) and antioxidant capacity before and after in vitro digestion from blackcurrant press cake extracts (BPC) and the bioactivity in cell culture, human erythrocytes as well as the in silico analysis. Chemical analysis of BPC presented an increase in TPC (270%) and anthocyanins (136%) after in vitro digestion, resulting in an improvement of antioxidant activity (DPPH 112%; FRAP: 153%). This behavior may be related to the highest activity of cyanidin-3-rutinoside, as confirmed by in silico analysis.

BACKGROUND Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is a rare but serious reaction to anti-resorptive drugs (ARDs) in patients treated for osteoporosis and conditions related to cancer. Treatment for MRONJ consists of the use of non-operative therapies according to the evolution of the disease, which consist of the use of antimicrobial mouthwashes, systemic antibiotics, and operative therapies, such as debridement of necrotic bone, marginal or segmental resection, and bone reconstruction of the jaws in more advanced stages of the disease. CASE REPORT This is a case series of 11 female patients treated for MRONJ, with a mean age of 76.

Dry heat treatment (DHT) has been demonstrated as a viable method for starch modification, offering benefits due to its environmentally friendly process and low operational costs. This research modified potato starch using different DHT conditions (continuous-CDHT and cyclic-RDHT), with durations ranging from 3 to 15 h and 1 to 5 cycles, at 120 °C. The study investigated and compared the structural, thermal, pasting, and morphological properties of the treated samples to those of untreated potato starch, including in vitro digestibility post-modification.

Objective: The application of anti-inflammatories as topical desensitizers before dental bleaching is an approach to reduce bleaching-induced tooth sensitivity (TS). This randomized controlled trial compared the risk and intensity of TS and the color change resulting from in-office dental bleaching after using an experimental desensitizing gel containing ibuprofen and arginine.
Methods: Sixty-two participants with upper canine shades A2 or darker were randomly assigned to either the ibuprofen-arginine desensitizing group or the placebo group.

Oxidative/nitrosative damage takes part in chronic disease development, which generates an urgent need for intervention and better therapies to manage them. The scientific community has demanded easy-to-run, cheap, and reliable methods for cellular antioxidant activity assays. This work standardised and validated an erythrocyte cellular antioxidant activity and membrane protection/injury (HERYCA-P) protocol to study food-derive extracts.

BACKGROUND Bisphosphonates inhibit bone resorption in patients with postmenopausal osteoporosis and reduce osteoporotic fracture incidence. Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (MRONJ) and atypical femoral fractures (AFF) are both rare but serious adverse effects of anti-resorptive drugs (ARD) such as bisphosphonates. The most advanced form of MRONJ is termed stage 3 and can lead to severe local sequelae like pathologic mandibular fractures (PMF).
