The absence of guidelines for managing gunshot wounds to the head (GSWH) with bihemispheric lesions in pediatric patients highlights the need for prompt and diverse damage control strategies. This article aims to systematically evaluate the evidence surrounding the management of GSWH in preschoolers and to report a novel approach. We present a case of a 4-year-old girl who sustained a gunshot wound to the left parietal region.

In this work, effects of constant and time-dependent vaccination rates on the Susceptible-Exposed-Infected-Recovered-Susceptible (SEIRS) seasonal model are studied. Computing the Lyapunov exponent, we show that typical complex structures, such as shrimps, emerge for given combinations of a constant vaccination rate and another model parameter. In some specific cases, the constant vaccination does not act as a chaotic suppressor and chaotic bands can exist for high levels of vaccination (e.

The linear conformation of animals exerts an influence on health, reproduction, production, and welfare, in addition to longevity, which directly affects the profitability of milk-producing farms. The objectives of this study were (1) to perform genome-wide association studies (GWASs) of conformation traits, namely the Rump, Feet and Legs, Mammary System, Dairy Strength, and Final Classification traits, and (2) to identify genes and related pathways involved in physiological processes associated with conformation traits in Brazilian Holstein cattle. Phenotypic and genotypic data from 2339 Holstein animals distributed across the states of Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná, São Paulo, and Minas Gerais were used.

From the restorative perspective, various methods are available to prevent the progression of non-carious cervical lesions. Direct, semi-direct, and indirect composite resin techniques and indirect ceramic restorations are commonly recommended. In this context, semi-direct and indirect restoration approaches are increasingly favored, particularly as digital dentistry becomes more prevalent.

Background: The pterional craniotomy, described by Yasargil and Fox in 1975, constitutes the most traditional and important surgical access in vascular neurosurgery. Minimally invasive alternatives include the minipterional (MP) and lateral supraorbital (LSO) craniotomies, which avoid complications such as injury to the frontal branch of the facial nerve, temporal muscle dysfunction, depression of the craniotomy site, frontal sinus opening, and cosmetically unacceptable outcomes. We evaluated and compared the exposures provided by MP and LSO craniotomies through quantitative measurements of the surgical exposure area around the circle of Willis and parasellar regions, as well as angular and linear exposures of the internal carotid artery (ICA) bifurcation, middle cerebral artery (MCA), midpoint of the anterior communicating artery, and tip of the basilar artery (BA).

Adverse events (AEs), and particularly adverse drug events (ADEs), represent a health problem as they can cause permanent damage or death. Understanding the frequency, location, and causes of ADEs can prevent harm to patients. The Global Trigger Tool, produced by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (GTT/IHI), is widely used to identify AEs.

Background: Von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease is a rare autosomal dominant disorder that predisposes patients to develop multiple cysts and tumors, such as hemangioblastomas (HBs) and clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC), due to mutations in the VHL tumor suppressor gene. While treatment of HBs varies based on their characteristics and has improved patient survival, it still involves high morbidity and mortality, leading to ongoing debates and studies to refine therapy strategies. Recent developments include the emergence of Belzutifan, a novel inhibitor targeting hypoxia-inducible factor 2α (HIF-2α), which has shown promising results in ongoing trials, particularly for patients not immediately requiring surgery.
