The Rochester Adolescent Maternity Program (RAMP) has incorporated evidence-based oral health guidelines into its prenatal care. These guidelines focus on tracking oral health services, screening and triaging prenatal patients, and providing patient and staff with the education needed to decrease oral health risks to mother, fetus, and baby. The RAMP process serves as a model for promoting quality oral health practices in pregnant teenagers and their babies.

The presence of Escherichia coli in recreational and potable waters is a major concern to the general public as elevated levels of E. coli suggest the presence of pathogenic bacteria and viruses. Unfortunately, traditional microbial techniques do not allow specific identification of the source of E.

Deuterium-labeled water (2H2O) has emerged as a novel isotope tracer. Following the administration of 2H2O, it is possible to study the dynamics of carbohydrate, protein, lipid, and DNA and to determine body composition. Those studies require reliable measurements of the 2H labeling of water.

The prevalence of diabetes mellitus makes the occurrence of hyperglycemic emergencies a key component in clinical practice. The expert nurse is well positioned to manage both diabetic ketoacidosis and hyperosmolar hyperglycemic states. Patient care management includes a high index of suspicion for awareness for the possibility of diabetic ketoacidosis or hyperosmolar hyperglycemic states in patients based on a multifactorial etiology, evidence-based treatment of the emergent episode, and tertiary prevention to prevent recurrent episodes.

Microsatellites, or simple repetitive sequences, are abundant in eukaryotic genomes and in the mitochondrial genome of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. These sequences alter at rates significantly higher than non-repetitive sequences of comparable size. The stability of a mitochondrial microsatellite is nearly 100-fold greater in diploid yeast cells than in isogenic haploid cells.

Lake Ontario, bordering both Canada and the United States, is the only Great Lake with persistent, significant levels of mirex in its biota. Some models suggested that it would take hundreds of years before mirex disappeared from the ecosystem. From 1977 to 1996 the mirex concentrations in coho and chinook salmon greater than 2 kg in weight exceeded the 0.

We compared three approaches to scoring qualitative aspects of verbal fluency performance in 88 healthy young adults. Phonemic and semantic fluency output was scored for word clustering and switching between clusters. Convergent validity analyses using other tests presumed to tap into strategy use (California Verbal Learning Test, Ruff Figural Fluency Test) support scoring of phonemic and semantic clusters on both fluency tasks.

Subjects were also classified as highly trained (HT), moderately trained (MT), or untrained (UNT) in order to examine the relationship between RMR and level of training.

Maltreatment was predicted to negatively affect children's academic and behavioral adjustment through the creation of deficits in academic engagement, social competencies, ego resiliency, and ego control. Teachers' comprehensive evaluations, school records, and camp counselors' ratings were obtained for 229 socioeconomically disadvantaged children (ages 5-12 years), 146 of whom had been maltreated. Maltreated children showed less academic engagement, more social skills deficits, and lower ego resiliency than nonmaltreated comparison children.

Lupus anticoagulant and anticardiolipin are antiphospholipid antibodies. The presence of either or both antiphospholipid antibodies may result in antiphospholipid antibody syndrome, which is typified by recurrent venous or arterial thrombosis, recurrent fetal loss, and thrombocytopenia. Many features of this syndrome are not well understood, including its prevalence, how and why antiphospholipid autoantibodies develop, and their definitive role in disease states.
