Malignant rhabdoid tumor is a rare highly aggressive neoplasm that affects young children. It is composed of stromal and epithelial components and commonly arises from the kidney. The clinical presentation is usually nonspecific, and the common signs are palpable abdominal mass, hematuria, fever, anemia, and hypercalcemia.

Immunogenicity, Reactogenicity, and Safety of a Pentavalent Meningococcal ABCWY Vaccine in Adolescents and Young Adults who had Previously Received a Meningococcal ACWY Vaccine: Phase 3, Randomized, Controlled Clinical Study.

Background: A MenABCWY vaccine containing 4CMenB and MenACWY-CRM vaccine components has been developed to protect against the five meningococcal serogroups that cause most invasive disease cases.

Methods: In this phase 3 study (NCT04707391), healthy participants aged 15-25 years, who had received MenACWY vaccination ≥4 years previously, were randomized (1:1) to receive two MenABCWY doses six months apart or one MenACWY-CRM dose. Primary objectives were to demonstrate the non-inferiority of MenABCWY 1 month post-vaccination versus MenACWY-CRM, with a lower limit of 2-sided 95% confidence interval above -10% for group differences in 4-fold rise in human serum bactericidal antibody (hSBA) titers against serogroups ACWY, and to evaluate reactogenicity and safety.

A Modern Education Theory Approach to Development of a Benchtop Simulation Model for Ultrasound-Guided Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy.

To develop and validate a high-fidelity, nonbiohazardous simulator model for the ultrasound-guided percutaneous nephrolithotomy procedure. We employed a systematic framework based on Delphi consensus and modern education theory to design a simulation model. Twelve expert surgeons provided input through a hierarchal task analysis and identified procedural tasks, anatomical landmarks, and potential errors.

Our aim was to confirm that the cortico-cortical paired associative stimulation strengthens the connection between brain regions in the motor circuit and promotes improvements in motor function. At our institution, 3D printing has emerged as a popular option for creating customized polyetheretherketone (PEEK) cranioplasty implants that are lower profile than older, non-3D-printed implants. The 3D-printed implants can be integrated, with fixation plates already attached, or nonintegrated, with separate fixation plates available.

Clipping of a ruptured cerebral aneurysm in a toddler: a case report and review of aneurysmal treatment in children.

Background: Pediatric intracranial aneurysms account for 5% of all aneurysms and less than 10% of all aneurysms cause non-traumatic intracranial hemorrhage in children. They are most commonly secondary to trauma, infection, or genetic etiologies; however, case reports have described iatrogenic intracranial aneurysms. We describe a case of a ruptured aneurysm with an associated intracranial hematoma that was treated by surgical clipping and clot evacuation.

Developing a Novel Surgical Care Access Score for Patients With Osteoarthritis Considering Total Knee Replacement.

Objective: Access to specialized orthopedic care is an important determinant of the decision to undergo total knee replacement (TKR); however, most studies have mainly used distance to the nearest high-volume hospital as the primary proxy for access. We applied the two-step floating catchment area (2SFCA) method to develop a more comprehensive TKR access score that accounts for other potential factors (ie, supply of and demand for this procedure) that also affect access.

Methods: To apply the 2SFCA method, we first estimated TKR demand using the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates of prevalence of osteoarthritis, which were multiplied by estimates of patients who would potentially benefit from TKR.

Dengue virus (DENV) is the causative agent of dengue, a mosquito-borne disease that represents a significant and growing public health burden around the world. A unique pathophysiological feature of dengue is immune-mediated enhancement, wherein preexisting immunity elicited by a primary infection can enhance the severity of a subsequent infection by a heterologous DENV serotype. A leading mechanistic explanation for this phenomenon is antibody dependent enhancement (ADE), where sub-neutralizing concentrations of DENV-specific IgG antibodies facilitate entry of DENV into FcγR expressing cells such as monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells.

This study investigated if microscopic surface features captured with a scanning electron microscope (SEM) effectively discriminate fracture timing. We hypothesized that microscopic fracture characteristics, including delamination, osteon pullout, and microcracks, may vary as bone elasticity decreases, elucidating perimortem and postmortem events more reliably than macroscopic analyses. Thirty-seven unembalmed, defleshed human femoral shafts from males (n=18) and females (n=2) aged 33-81 years were fractured at experimentally simulated postmortem intervals (PMIs) ranging from 1 to 60 warm weather days (250-40,600 ADH).
