Floodplains function as global hotspots for the natural production of methane. Some of this methane can be oxidized by methanotrophic bacteria and assimilated into their biomass before reaching the atmosphere. Consequently, aquatic invertebrates that feed on methanotrophic bacteria may transfer methane-derived carbon to higher trophic levels in the aquatic food chain.

Internal curing is a process based on the addition of materials that function as water reservoirs in cementitious media. Superabsorbent hydrogels are an alternative that can be used as an internal curing agent, as they have the ability to absorb and release water in a controlled manner. In the present work, superabsorbent hydrogels based on crosslinked polyacrylamide in the presence of starch and sugarcane bagasse ash (SCBA) were developed and applied to mortars as an internal curing agent.

Chemistry Postgraduation Program, Federal University of Piaui-UFPI, Teresina 64049-550, PI, Brazil.
Superabsorbent polymers (PSAs) have been extensively studied to act as internal curing agents in cementitious materials, as they have the characteristic of absorbing and releasing water in a controlled manner, which can contribute to the hydration process of a cementitious medium during its consolidation. Thus, hydrogels consisting of polyacrylamide (PAAm), pectin (Pec) and rice husk ash (RHA) were synthesized to be applied in cementitious matrices. In addition, the PSAs were characterized by FTIR, SEM, and XRD.

Establishing a microorganism as an endophyte involves complex molecular interactions with its host plant and a broader microbial community. Precise detection methods and comprehensive metabolite annotation are essential to study these interactions. This study focused on characterizing the chemical composition of metabolites produced by two endophytic fungi, Colletotrichum siamense and Xylaria berteroi, isolated from Tibouchina granulosa leaves in axenic conditions and coculture.

Herein, we introduce an unprecedented cascade reaction for the assembly of pyrrole-fused 1,5-benzodiazepine frameworks. These diverse privileged scaffolds were controllably constructed by intramolecular cyclization of β-enamino diketone, followed by annulation with -phenylenediamine. The protocol features efficient one-pot cascade cyclization/annulation, performed under simple and mild reaction conditions.

Pyriproxyfen has been extensively employed in the Neotropical region for agricultural pest management and insect vectors. However, measuring the sublethal and indirect effects of this active ingredient on nontarget organisms, such as lacewings, is important. Using morphological tools on target organs, we can evaluate these effects and use them as biomarkers for future ecotoxicological studies.

Fungi (, , and , ) impart wood rot, leading to economic and environmental issues. To overcome this issue, toxic chemicals are commonly employed for wood preservation, impacting the environment and human health. Surface coatings based on antimicrobial chitosan (CS) of high molar mass (145 × 10 Da) were tested as wood preservation agents using an innovative strategy involving ultra-pressurizing CS solutions to deposit organic coatings on wood samples.

Propofol is an intravenous anesthetic administered as a bolus or continuous infusion during anesthetic induction and maintenance. Its pharmacokinetic characteristics include hepatic and extrahepatic metabolism with a rapid onset of action and short duration, which provides a smooth anesthetic induction without excitatory effects. To evaluate whether the isolated use of propofol in anesthetic induction in dogs changes the hemodynamic variables assessed via echocardiography.

The incorporation of nitric oxide (NO) into polymeric matrices minimizes degradation and facilitates controlled release. This optimization increases the field of application of NO, in dressings, food protective films, and implant devices, among others. This work presents an economical and easy way to manufacture bioactive nitric oxide-releasing polymer (BioNOR-P) and evaluates its bactericidal and antioxidant activity (AA), mechanical behavior, cytotoxicity, and genotoxicity, seeking future use in different applications.

Integrating diverse measurement platforms can yield profound insights. This study examined Brazilian Canephora coffees from Rondônia (Western Amazon) and Espírito Santo (southeast), hypothesizing that geographical and climatic differences along botanical varieties significantly impact coffee characteristics. To test this, capixaba, indigenous, and non-indigenous Amazonian canephora coffees were analyzed using nine distinct platforms, including both spectroscopic techniques and sensory evaluations, to obtain results that are more informative and complementary than conventional single-method analyses.
