Background: Transcription factors are important in the epithelial-mesenchymal transition process and are possibly related to the development of a more invasive tumor phenotype. Thus, the objective of this study was to analyze the expression and identify the localization of cellular markers related to the epithelial-mesenchymal transition process in salivary gland tumors.
Study Design: The expression and localization of E-CADERIN, N-CADERIN, SLUG, SNAIL, and TWIST were evaluated, using immunohistochemistry, in 48 salivary gland tumors, being 17 pleomorphic adenomas (PA), 14 adenoid cystic carcinomas (ACC), and 17 mucoepidermoid carcinomas (MEC).

Wound healing is a natural regenerative response to tissue injury and the conventional treatments consists of the use wound dressings with local administration of medicines, but, in some cases, are only partially effective and limited by toxicity or ineffective anti-microbial protection. Medicinal plants such as Lippia sidoides and Myracrodruon urundeuva have shown interesting pharmacological activities, allied to this, the association of these medicinal plants and nanotechnology, could mean an advantage in relation to classical approach. This study investigated the effect of a nanogel loaded with Lippia sidoides essential oil and Myracrodruon urundeuva extract (NAA) in an excisional wound healing model in rats.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by progressive loss of cognitive functions, and it is the most prevalent type of dementia worldwide, accounting for 60 to 70% of cases. The pathogenesis of AD seems to involve three main factors: deficiency in cholinergic transmission, formation of extracellular deposits of β-amyloid peptide, and accumulation of deposits of a phosphorylated form of the TAU protein. The currently available drugs are prescribed for symptomatic treatment and present adverse effects such as hepatotoxicity, hypertension, and weight loss.

Cancer is a multifactorial disease dependent on the influence of genetic and environmental factors. About 10% of cancers are associated with germline mutations, which predispose to a higher risk of developing cancer. Currently, the use of panels that identify susceptibility and/or association genes cancer has been increasingly used, both in clinical practice and in scientific research.

Oxic methane production (OMP) has been reported to significantly contribute to methane emissions from oxic surface waters. Demethylation of organic compounds, photosynthesis-associated methane production, and (bacterio)chlorophyll reduction activity are some of the investigated mechanisms as potential OMP sources related to photosynthetic organisms. Recently, cyanobacteria have often been correlated with methane accumulation and emission in freshwater, marine, and saline systems.

Background: The composition of the venom from solitary wasps is poorly known, although these animals are considered sources of bioactive substances. Until the present moment, there is only one proteomic characterization of the venom of wasps of the family Pompilidae and this is the first proteomic characterization for the genus .
Methods: To elucidate the components of venom, the present work sought to identify proteins using four different experimental conditions, namely: (A) crude venom; (B) reduced and alkylated venom; (C) trypsin-digested reduced and alkylated venom, and; (D) chymotrypsin-digested reduced and alkylated venom.

The management of inflammatory states typically involves non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and opiates. Understanding the mechanisms underlying the processing of nociceptive information from potential alternatives such as some polysaccharides may enable new and meaningful therapeutic approaches. In this study, α-D-mannan isolated from the Kluyveromyces marxianus cell wall produced antinociceptive effects in models of inflammatory pain (formalin and complete Freund's adjuvant tests).
