Background: Neuroretinitis is classically defined as a clinical triad of unilateral, painless vision loss, accompanied by optic disc edema and characteristic macular star formation. The causes of neuroretinitis can be categorized as infectious, non-infectious, and idiopathic, therefore differential diagnosis and careful evaluation are required, owing to the various etiologies and masqueraders.
Case Presentation: A 54-year-old woman presented to the clinic with blurred vision in both eyes.

Endometriosis was claimed to negatively affect the intrafollicular environment, hindering oocyte competence. Previous studies evaluated expression levels of cytochrome P450 aromatase (CYP19A) in granulosa and cumulus oophorus cells collected from endometriosis women, but results are controversial. To further investigate the intrafollicular environment whose alteration may potentially disturb ovarian steroidogenesis in endometriosis, gene expression of CYP19A and of its upstream enzymes, StAR and 3βHSD was assessed in luteinized granulosa cells isolated from follicular fluids (FF) collected during Assisted Reproduction Technology (ART) procedures in women with stage III-IV disease and from subjects without the condition.

Background: The Star Excursion Balance Test (SEBT) and its modification(mSEBT) as dynamic tests have been shown to have high reliability and validity for the prediction of lower extremities injuries including ACL ones. No previous study has compared mSEBT performance measures in different hormonal statuses of the menstrual cycle in naturally menstruating women. So aim of the study was comparison of mSEBT performance measures in days of the menstruation cycle with the peak of estrogen and progesterone hormones in naturally menstruating women.

Background: Increasing maternal glycaemia across the continuum during pregnancy may predispose offspring to subsequent cardiometabolic risk later in life. However, evidence of long-term impacts of maternal glycemic status on offspring amino acid (AA) profiles is scarce. We aimed to investigate the association between maternal antenatal glycaemia and offspring mid-childhood amino acid (AA) profiles, which are emerging cardiometabolic biomarkers.

The fight against hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) remains an arduous challenge without existing point-of-care (POC) diagnostic platforms for accurate diagnosis and prompt case quarantine. Hence, the purpose of this salivary biomarker discovery study is to set the fundamentals for the realization of POC diagnostics for HFMD. Whole salivary proteome profiling was performed on the saliva obtained from children with HFMD and healthy children, using a reductive dimethylation chemical labeling method coupled with high-resolution mass spectrometry-based quantitative proteomics technology.

In Brief: Adipolin (C1QTNF12) has been described as a regulator of metabolism and is linked with the pathophysiology of PCOS. In this study, for the first time, we show the expression of C1QTNF12 in granulosa cells and its positive effect on porcine granulosa cell proliferation and steroid synthesis.
Abstract: Adipolin (C1QTNF12) is a recently discovered adipokine that plays an important role in glucose and insulin level regulation.

Innovation in therapies for patients with von Willebrand disease (VWD) has lagged far behind that for hemophilia, creating inequity in the bleeding disorder community. Although currently existing treatments of antifibrinolytics, desmopressin, and plasma-derived von Willebrand factor replacement are considered effective, multiple studies report poor quality of life in patients with VWD, especially those with heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB). This disconnect underscores the need for novel therapies that are safe and effective and that consider a patient's specific contraceptive and reproductive needs.

Purpose: The aim of this meta-analysis was comparing the efficacy of GnRH antagonist (GnRH-ant) protocol and progestin-primed ovarian stimulation (PPOS) in polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) women.
Methods: A search was conducted from PubMed, Embase, The Cochrane library, Web of Science, and Scopus databases to collect clinical papers regarding GnRH-ant protocol and PPOS protocol from inception to September 2023. Subsequently, the retrieved documents were screened, and the content of the documents that conformed to the requirements was extracted.

Background: Exposure to cytotoxic chemotherapy treatment may alter DNA methylation (DNAm) in breast cancer patients.
Methods: We performed DNAm analysis in 125 breast cancer patients with blood drawn before and after chemotherapy, using the Illumina MethylationEPIC array. DNAm changes of 588,798 individual CpGs (including 41,207 promoter regions) were evaluated using linear regression models adjusted for monocyte proportion.

Background: Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC), accounts for the majority of deaths associated with breast tumors. Because this form is aggressive from its appearance and has a strong metastatic potential. The majority of patients are not diagnosed until late stages, highlighting the need for the development of novel diagnostic biomarkers.

Microglia are specialized brain-resident macrophages that arise from primitive macrophages colonizing the embryonic brain. Microglia contribute to multiple aspects of brain development, but their precise roles in the early human brain remain poorly understood owing to limited access to relevant tissues. The generation of brain organoids from human induced pluripotent stem cells recapitulates some key features of human embryonic brain development.

Background: Existing literature has highlighted structural, physiological, and pathological disparities among abdominal adipose tissue (AAT) sub-depots. Accurate separation and quantification of these sub-depots are crucial for advancing our understanding of obesity and its comorbidities. However, the absence of clear boundaries between the sub-depots in medical imaging data has challenged their separation, particularly for internal adipose tissue (IAT) sub-depots.

Evidence suggests that sex differences commonly occur in trauma-related disorders. The current study aims to explore sex differences in complex posttraumatic stress disorder (CPTSD) symptom networks among Chinese young adults with childhood trauma. The current study utilized a representative sample of college students in Beijing and included 1416 participants (409 men and 907 women) who had childhood trauma experience.

Unlabelled: XIAP, the most potent mammalian inhibitor of apoptosis protein (IAP), critically restricts developmental culling of sympathetic neuronal progenitors, and is correspondingly overexpressed in most MYCN-amplified neuroblastoma tumors. Because apoptosis-related protein in the TGFβ signaling pathway (ARTS) is the only XIAP antagonist that directly binds and degrades XIAP, we evaluated the preclinical effectiveness and tolerability of XIAP antagonism as a novel targeting strategy for neuroblastoma. We found that antagonism of XIAP, but not other IAPs, triggered apoptotic death in neuroblastoma cells.

Argininosuccinate lyase (ASL) deficiency is an autosomal recessive disorder of the urea cycle with a diverse spectrum of clinical presentation that is detectable in newborn screening. We report an 8-year-old girl with ASL deficiency who was detected through newborn screening and was confirmed using biochemical and functional assay. She is compound heterozygous for a likely pathogenic variant NM_000048.
