The recent observation of broadband white-light emission from the inorganic sheets of certain layered lead-bromide perovskites has instigated a multitude of studies on this unusual phenomenon. However, the vast majority of layered bromide perovskites have flat (001) inorganic sheets and display a narrow photoluminescence at room temperature. A handful of heavily distorted (001) perovskites display broad emission, but to date, there is no method of predicting which perovskites will produce white light at room temperature prior to screening different organic molecules that can template 2D perovskites and crystallizing and analyzing the material.

Integrated photodetectors based on transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) face the challenge of growing their high-quality crystals directly on chips or transferring them to the desired locations of components by applying multi-step processes. Herein, we show that vertically oriented polycrystalline thin films of MoS and WS grown by sulfurization of Mo and W sputtered on highly doped Si are robust solutions to achieve on-chip photodetectors with a sensitivity of up to 1 mA W and an ultrafast response time in the sub-μs regime by simply probing the device in a vertical arrangement, , parallel to the basal planes of TMDs. These results are two orders of magnitude better than those measured earlier in lateral probing setups having both electrodes on top of vertically aligned polycrystalline TMD films.

Polymer-nanoparticle hydrogels are a unique class of self-assembled, shear-thinning, yield-stress fluids that have demonstrated potential utility in many impactful applications. Here, we present a thorough analysis of the gelation and yielding behavior of these materials with respect to the polymer and nanoparticle component stoichiometry. Through comprehensive rheological and diffusion studies, we reveal insights into the structural dynamics of the polymer nanoparticle network that identify that stoichiometry plays a key role in gelation and yielding, ultimately enabling the development of hydrogel formulations with unique shear-thinning and yield-stress behaviors.

The Amundsen Sea Embayment of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet contains Thwaites and Pine Island Glaciers, two of the most rapidly changing glaciers in Antarctica. To date, Pine Island and Thwaites Glaciers have only been observed by independent airborne radar sounding surveys, but a combined cross-basin analysis that investigates the basal conditions across the Pine Island-Thwaites Glaciers boundary has not been performed. Here, we combine two radar surveys and correct for their differences in system parameters to produce unified englacial attenuation and basal relative reflectivity maps spanning both Pine Island and Thwaites Glaciers.
