This project describes the design, implementation, and evaluation of a presentation coaching program offered by an academic surgical society to presenters at its annual meeting.

Objective: The neuropsychological adverse effects of antiseizure medications (ASMs) influence the tolerability, and in turn effectiveness of these medications, which can occur in a dose-dependent fashion. In this study, we examine the neuropsychological effects of perampanel (PER) at 4 mg daily as this dose has not been previously assessed with objective cognitive tests.

Objectives: Pancreatic diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) has numerous clinical applications, but conventional single-shot methods suffer from off resonance-induced artifacts like distortion and blurring while cardiovascular motion-induced phase inconsistency leads to quantitative errors and signal loss, limiting its utility. Multishot DWI (msDWI) offers reduced image distortion and blurring relative to single-shot methods but increases sensitivity to motion artifacts. Motion-compensated diffusion-encoding gradients (MCGs) reduce motion artifacts and could improve motion robustness of msDWI but come with the cost of extended echo time, further reducing signal.

Protein-Protein Interactions (PPIs) are a key interface between virus and host, and these interactions are important to both viral reprogramming of the host and to host restriction of viral infection. In particular, viral-host PPI networks can be used to further our understanding of the molecular mechanisms of tissue specificity, host range, and virulence. At higher scales, viral-host PPI screening could also be used to screen for small-molecule antivirals that interfere with essential viral-host interactions, or to explore how the PPI networks between interacting viral and host genomes co-evolve.

Viruses engage in a variety of processes to subvert host defenses and create an environment amenable to replication. Here, using rotavirus as a prototype, we show that calcium conductance out of the endoplasmic reticulum by the virus encoded ion channel, , induces intercellular calcium waves that extend beyond the infected cell and contribute to pathogenesis. Viruses that lack the ability to induce this signaling show diminished viral shedding and attenuated disease in a mouse model of rotavirus diarrhea.

Originally developed for use in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors demonstrated diverse cardiovascular- and kidney-protective effects in large outcome trials. Their subsequent approval as a treatment for chronic kidney disease (CKD) marked a pivotal shift in the landscape of CKD management. Background: Severe neonatal inflammatory conditions in very preterm infants (VPT: <32 weeks gestational age, GA) are linked to adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes. Differences in white matter (WM) microstructure of the corpus callosum (CC) have been observed at age 6 in VPT children with a history of severe neonatal inflammation. The goal of this study was to determine whether these CC differences can be detected at term-equivalent age using diffusion MRI (dMRI), and whether neonatal inflammation is associated with altered WM in additional tracts implicated in the encephalopathy of prematurity.

The number of human disease genes has dramatically increased over the past decade, largely fueled by ongoing advances in sequencing technologies. In parallel, the number of available clinical genetic tests has also increased, including the utilization of exome sequencing for undiagnosed diseases. Although most clinical sequencing tests have been centered on enrichment-based multigene panels and exome sequencing, the continued improvements in performance and throughput of genome sequencing suggest that this technology is emerging as a potential platform for routine clinical genetic testing.

We report the synthesis and characterization of a series of high- and low-spin dicobalt complexes of the PNNP expanded pincer ligand. Reacting this dinucleating ligand in its neutral form with two equiv of CoCl(tetrahydrofuran) yields a high-spin dicobalt complex featuring one Co inside and one Co outside of the dinucleating pocket. Performing the same reaction in the presence of two equivalents of KOtBu provides access to a high-spin dicobalt complex wherein both Co centers are bound within the PNNP pocket, and this complex also features a bridging OtBu ligand.
