Background: Peripheral venous blood (PVB) gas analysis has become an alternative to arterial blood gas (BG) analysis in assessing acid-base balance. This study aimed to compare the effects of blood collection devices and modes of transportation on peripheral venous BG parameters.
Methods: PVB-paired specimens were collected from 40 healthy volunteers into blood gas syringes (BGS) and blood collection tubes (BCT), transported by either a pneumatic tube system (PTS) or human courier (HC) to the clinical laboratory, and compared using a two-way ANOVA or Wilcoxon signed-rank test.

Patients treated with cytotoxic therapies, including autologous stem cell transplantation, are at risk for developing therapy-related myeloid neoplasms (tMN). Preleukemic clones (ie, clonal hematopoiesis [CH]) are detectable years before the development of these aggressive malignancies, although the genomic events leading to transformation and expansion are not well defined. Here, by leveraging distinctive chemotherapy-associated mutational signatures from whole-genome sequencing data and targeted sequencing of prechemotherapy samples, we reconstructed the evolutionary life-history of 39 therapy-related myeloid malignancies.

The minor procedure room (MPR) offers numerous advantages over the traditional operating room for performing many common hand surgeries. MPRs require less space, are subject to more practical architectural design standards, and facilitate more judicious use of disposable materials and unnecessary instruments than common hand surgeries. MPRs reduce costs to the system and patient at every step of the surgical workflow and improve efficiency by removing preoperative and postoperative monitoring requirements.

Unlabelled: Necrosis of the nipple-areolar complex (NAC) is a major complication of breast surgery that most commonly results from venous congestion. Several conservative rescue therapies have been proposed for relieving NAC congestion, but each carries certain drawbacks, including cost and side effect profile. Dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) is a management cornerstone for intracranial aneurysms treated with flow diversion. However, combined dual antiplatelet plus anticoagulation (triple therapy) can be indicated in some patients with important associated risks. Here we present the case of a 72-year-old woman with prior history of subarachnoid hemorrhage who was started on triple therapy (enoxaparin and DAPT) following successful flow diversion of an enlarging but unruptured left fetal posterior communicating artery aneurysm.

Purpose: Conjunctival squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a sight-threatening ocular surface malignancy with the primary treatment modality being surgical resection. To evaluate surgical imaging modalities to improve surgical resection, we established a novel murine model for conjunctival SCC to demonstrate the utility of panitumumab-IRDye800, a fluorescently labeled anti-epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) antibody.

Introduction: The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) offers descriptions of competencies and milestones but does not provide standardized assessments to track trainee competency. Entrustable professional activities (EPAs) and special assessments (SAs) are emerging methods to assess the level of competency obtained by regional anesthesiology and acute pain medicine (RAAPM) fellows.
Methods: A panel of RAAPM physicians with experience in education and competency assessment and one medical student were recruited to participate in a modified Delphi method with iterative rounds to reach consensus on: a list of EPAs, SAs, and procedural skills; detailed definitions for each EPA and SA; a mapping of the EPAs and SAs to the ACGME milestones; and a target level of entrustment for graduating US RAAPM fellows for each EPA and procedural skill.
Background: Sustained blood pressure reductions after radiofrequency (RF) renal denervation (RDN) have been reported to 3 years in patients with uncontrolled hypertension. However, mechanistic data to support procedural durability are lacking. We aimed to quantify the long-term nerve anatomic and functional effects of RF RDN in a preclinical model.
