Long-term maternal outcomes 5 years after cesarean section in Sierra Leone: A prospective cohort study.

Cesarean section (CS) is a life-saving procedure when performed for the right indication but carries substantial risks, specifically during subsequent pregnancies. The aim of this study was to evaluate obstetric outcomes for women 5 years after a CS performed by medical doctors and associate clinicians. This was a prospective multi-center observational study of women who had a CS at any of nine hospitals in Sierra Leone.

Cardiac remodelling in patients with atrial fibrillation and obstructive sleep apnoea.

Background: Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) can cause left atrial (LA) and left ventricular (LV) remodelling, which is linked to atrial fibrillation (AF). Whether continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) can reverse LA and LV remodelling in patients with OSA and paroxysmal AF (PAF) has yet to be studied. We assessed the impact of CPAP treatment on LA and LV size and function in patients with OSA and PAF before and after catheter ablation.

Epigenomic and phenotypic characterization of DEGCAGS syndrome.

Developmental Delay with Gastrointestinal, Cardiovascular, Genitourinary, and Skeletal Abnormalities syndrome (DEGCAGS, MIM #619488) is caused by biallelic, loss-of-function (LoF) ZNF699 variants, and is characterized by variable neurodevelopmental disability, discordant organ anomalies among full siblings and infant mortality. ZNF699 encodes a KRAB zinc finger protein of unknown function. We aimed to investigate the genotype-phenotype spectrum of DEGCAGS and the possibility of a diagnostic DNA methylation episignature, to facilitate the diagnosis of a highly variable condition lacking pathognomonic clinical findings.

Ultrasound and Microbubble-Induced Reduction of Functional Vasculature Depends on the Microbubble, Tumor Type and Time After Treatment.

Objective: Ultrasound in combination with microbubbles can enhance accumulation and improve the distribution of various therapeutic agents in tumor tissue, leading to improved efficacy. Understanding the impact of treatment on the tumor microenvironment, concurrently with how microenvironment attributes affect treatment outcome, will be important for selecting appropriate patient cohorts in future clinical trials. The main aim of this work was to investigate the influence of ultrasound and microbubbles on the functional vasculature of cancer tissue.

Promotive factors associated with reduced anxiety and depression across three years in a prospective clinical cohort of adolescents: Examining compensatory and protective models of resilience.

The rates of anxiety and depression increase across adolescence, many experience recurrence after treatment, yet longitudinal studies examining promotive factors are scarce. We prospectively examined the role of the promotive factors structured style, personal and social competencies, family functioning, and social resources in homotypic and heterotypic continuity and discontinuity of anxiety and depression across three years in a clinical sample. Participants were adolescents with anxiety or depressive disorders aged 13-18 years at T1 ( = 717, 44% initial participation rate) and aged 16-21 years at T2 ( = 549, 80% follow-up participation rate).

Surgery for intestinal injuries in very preterm infants: a Norwegian population-based study with a new approach to disease classification.

Objective: To evaluate population-based data on very preterm infants (<32 weeks gestation) operated for intestinal injuries, focusing on necrotising enterocolitis (NEC) and focal intestinal perforation (FIP).

Design: Nationwide, population-based registry cohort study.

The influence of lifestyle exposures such as excess adiposity, alcohol consumption, tobacco use, diet, and activity patterns on blood pressure (BP) is well established. Additionally, polygenic risk scores for BP traits are associated with clinically significant phenotypic variation.

Effect of FDG PET-CT for Staging and Radiotherapy Planning - A Comparison of Cohorts From Two Randomized Trials of Thoracic Radiotherapy in Limited-Stage SCLC.

Introduction: F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) is recommended for staging and defining target volume in limited-stage SCLC, though the impact on outcomes compared with CT staging and elective nodal irradiation (ENI) is not well documented. We analyzed patients receiving 45 Gy/30 fractions in two randomized trials of thoracic radiotherapy (TRT) in limited-stage SCLC (HAST and THORA trials) to evaluate whether PET-CT for staging and radiotherapy planning reduces radiotoxicity and improves survival.

Methods: Patients in HAST were staged with CT of the thorax and upper abdomen and brain magnetic resonance imaging of the brain.

: Early interventions for infants at high risk of cerebral palsy (CP) are recommended, but limited evidence exists. Our objective was, therefore, to evaluate the effects of the family-centered and interprofessional Small Step early intervention program on motor development in infants at high risk of CP (ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT03264339).

Undiagnosed Celiac Disease and Periodontal Bone Loss: A Cross-Sectional Radiological Assessment from the HUNT Study.

Objective: The objective was to assess radiographic periodontal bone loss in a population with previously undiagnosed celiac disease, and to compare it to a reference group without celiac disease.

Background: Periodontitis and celiac disease are chronic inflammatory diseases with possible similar features related to immune reactions and microbial dysbiosis. The relationship between these two diseases is not clear.

Neutrophil Extracellular Traps in ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction: Reduced by Tocilizumab and Associated With Infarct Size.

Background: Interleukin-6-receptor inhibition with tocilizumab improves myocardial salvage in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Reduced levels of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs), which consist of nuclear material studded with proteins released upon neutrophil activation, might contribute to this effect.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of tocilizumab on NETs and investigate the association between NETs and myocardial injury in patients with STEMI.

Dispensed prescription medications and short-term risk of pulmonary embolism in Norway and Sweden.

Scandinavian electronic health-care registers provide a unique setting to investigate potential unidentified side effects of drugs. We analysed the association between prescription drugs dispensed in Norway and Sweden and the short-term risk of developing pulmonary embolism. A total of 12,104 pulmonary embolism cases were identified from patient- and cause-of-death registries in Norway (2004-2014) and 36,088 in Sweden (2005-2014).

Circular RNA Profile in Atherosclerotic Disease: Regulation during ST-Elevated Myocardial Infarction.

Circular (circ) RNAs are non-coding RNAs with important functions in the nervous system, cardiovascular system, and cancer. Their role in atherosclerosis and myocardial infarction (MI) remains poorly described. We aim to investigate the potential circRNAs in immune cells during atherogenesis and examine the most regulated during MI and the modulation by interleukin (IL)-6 receptor inhibition by tocilizumab.

Intergenerational and genetic influences on physical activity: family data from the HUNT study, Norway.

Objectives: The objectives of this study are to examine the association of physical activity in parents with physical activity in their adult offspring and explore if the offspring's genetic liability (ie, polygenic risk score) to physical activity influences this association.

Methods: The Trøndelag Health Study cohort is a population-based longitudinal study with data collected in 1984-1986, 1995-1997, 2006-2008 and 2017-2019. We calculated the odds ratio for being physically active and mean difference in physical activity levels according to parental physical activity (device-measured and self-reported) and own polygenic risk score.

Esophageal cancers missed at upper endoscopy in Central Norway 2004 to 2021 - A population-based study.

Introduction: The incidence of esophageal cancers is increasing in many Western countries and the rate of missed esophageal cancers (MEC) at upper endoscopy is of concern. We aimed to calculate the MEC rate and identify factors associated with MEC.

Methods: This was a retrospective population-based cohort study including 613 patients diagnosed with esophageal cancer in Central Norway 2004-2021.

Open label experience of repeated OnabotulinumtoxinA injections towards the sphenopalatine ganglion in patients with chronic cluster headache and chronic migraine.

Background: A novel technique for injection of OnabotulinumtoxinA (BTA) towards the sphenopalatine ganglion (SPG) has shown promise in refractory chronic migraine (CM) and chronic cluster headache (CCH). Open label safety and efficacy data are presented here.

Methods: Patients with refractory CM or CCH who had received at least one injection and completed headache diaries were included.

Introduction And Objective: Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) during pregnancy is a significant public health concern associated with adverse maternal and fetal health outcomes, including increased risk of depression. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a digital empowerment-based intervention in reducing symptoms of depression among IPV-exposed pregnant women.
