Introduction: Endoscopic vacuum therapy (EVT) has emerged as a promising treatment option for upper gastrointestinal wall defects, offering benefits such as evacuation of secretions and removal of wound debris by suction, and reduction and healing of wound cavities to improve clinical outcomes. In contrast, covered stents have a high rate of migration and lack functional drainage, while endoluminal EVT devices obstruct the GI tract. The VACStent is a novel device that combines the benefits of EVT and stent placement.

Angled-tip vs. straight-tip guidewire in ERCP: a randomized, multicenter study.

Scand J Gastroenterol

May 2023

Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endocrinology, Robert-Bosch Hospitals, Stuttgart, Germany.

Background: Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is the mainstay for interventional treatment of biliopancreatic diseases, and guidewires are decisive for successful treatment.

Methods: A randomized, multicenter, open-label study was conducted in patients in whom a guidewire was required in ERCP. Success rate and duration of the investigation were evaluated by randomly applying hydrophilic guidewires with a straight tip (ST) or an angled tip (AT) configuration, with normal (type NF) or enhanced (type EF) flexibility.

Introduction: Both laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) and duodenojejunal bypass liner (DJBL) have been shown to induce weight loss and dramatically ameliorate type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Since DJBL implantation causes nutrients to pass through the duodenum without contact with the digestive juices and the duodenal mucosa, its mechanisms have been suggested to mimic those of RYGB. This study aimed to compare the outcomes of these two bariatric procedures in terms of glycemic control and BMI in patients with obesity and T2DM.

Results after arthroscopic treatment of central traumatic lesions of the triangular fibrocartilage complex.

Arch Orthop Trauma Surg

May 2018

Department for Plastic, Hand and Reconstructive Surgery, Hand Trauma Center, BG-Trauma Center Frankfurt am Main, Academic Hospital of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University Frankfurt am Main, Friedberger Landstrasse 430, 60389, Frankfurt am Main, Germany.

Introduction: Injuries of the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) are of high clinical relevance; however, the clinical evidence for treatment is poor and long-term results are rarely published. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical outcome of symptomatic central traumatic lesions of the TFCC (Palmer 1A) following arthroscopic debridement.

Materials And Methods: Between 2007 and 2013, 87 patients were arthroscopically diagnosed with Palmer 1A lesion and accordingly treated with debridement.

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is one of the leading causes of maternal deaths worldwide. Due to the increasing number of pregnant women with risk factors, the incidence of VTE has risen over the past decades. Mortality and morbidity of VTE are potentially preventable, since more than two-thirds of these women have identifiable risk factors and may benefit from appropriate thromboprophylaxis.
