[Neoadjuvant therapy for resectable non-small cell lung cancer].

Treatment perspectives for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) have been significantly expanded by the integration of immune checkpoint inhibitors into multimodal therapy concepts. Currently, combined, immune checkpoint-inhibitor-based therapy concepts are also advancing into early, resectable stages of NSCLC. Neoadjuvant and perioperative chemoimmunotherapy opened up a promising new preoperative treatment approach, but also raises some new questions and challenges.

Incidence of Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw in Patients With Breast Cancer During a 20-Year Follow-Up: A Population-Based Multicenter Retrospective Study.

Purpose: Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is one of the most important toxicities of antiresorptive therapy, which is standard practice for patients with breast cancer and bone metastases. However, the population-based incidence of MRONJ is not well established. We therefore performed a retrospective multicenter study to assess the incidence for a whole Austrian federal state (Tyrol).

A shortened treatment of proven RR-TB and multidrug-resistant TB for at least 6 months using the fixed and non-modifiable drug combination of bedaquiline, pretomanid, linezolid, and moxifloxacin (BPaLM) is now also recommended for Austria, Germany, and Switzerland under certain conditions considering the existing barriers for the implementation of the new treatment regimen.

Definitive fascial closure (DFC) is one of the main goals during treatment to prevent further complications such as fistula formation and the development of an incisional hernia.

Potential effects of a mobile stroke unit on time to treatment and outcome in patients treated with thrombectomy or thrombolysis: A Danish-German cross-border analysis.

Background And Purpose: A mobile stroke unit (MSU) reduces delays in stroke treatment by allowing thrombolysis on board and avoiding secondary transports. Due to the beneficial effect in comparison to conventional emergency medical services, current guidelines recommend regional evaluation of MSU implementation.

Methods: In a descriptive study, current pathways of patients requiring a secondary transport for mechanical thrombectomy were reconstructed from individual patient records within a Danish (n = 122) and an adjacent German region (n = 80).

Methods: This study is based on the "Diabetes-Landeck Cohort", a population-based cohort of patients with diabetes mellitus type 2 (T2DM). We assessed the quality of diabetes care and compared it between three groups of care units, that is, general practitioners (GP), diabetes specialists in private practice (DSPP), and hospitals (HOSP).

Movement patterns during gait initiation in older adults with various stages of frailty: a biomechanical analysis.

Background: Gait initiation is challenging for older individuals with poor physical function, particularly for those with frailty. Frailty is a geriatric syndrome associated with increased risk of illness, falls, and functional decline. This study examines whether spatial and temporal parameters of gait initiation differ between groups of older adults with different levels of frailty, and whether fear of falling, and balance ability are correlated with the height of lifting the food during gait initiation.

Cryoballoon ablation of atrial fibrillation in octogenarians: one year outcomes from the cryo global registry.

Background: Limited information is available on the safety and efficacy of cryoballoon ablation (CBA) in elderly patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). Moreover, global utilization of CBA in this population (≥ 80 years old) has not been reported. Airway Pressure Release Ventilation in COVID-19-Associated Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome-A Multicenter Propensity Score-Matched Analysis.

There are limited and partially contradictory data on the effects of airway pressure release ventilation (APRV) in COVID-19-associated acute respiratory distress syndrome (CARDS). Therefore, we analyzed the clinical outcome, complications, and longitudinal course of ventilation parameters and laboratory values in patients with CARDS, who were mechanically ventilated using APRV. Respective data from 4 intensive care units (ICUs) were collected and compared to a matched cohort of patients receiving conventional low tidal volume ventilation (LTV).

[Scaphoid fractures : Current diagnostic and treatment concepts].

Scaphoid fractures are by far the most frequent fractures of the carpal bones of the hand and often lead to problematic healing processes if the diagnostics and treatment are inadequate. The main complication of a scaphoid fracture is pseudarthrosis, which leads to carpal collapse and degenerative arthritis of the wrist if left untreated. Early diagnosis and individualized differentiated treatment aim to achieve bony healing with restoration of the scaphoid shape and preservation of the function of the wrist.

Purpose: Olfactory dysfunction (OD) commonly accompanies coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). We investigated the kinetics of OD resolution following SARS-CoV-2 infection (wild-type and alpha variant) and its impact on quality of life, physical and mental health.

Methods: OD prevalence was assessed in an ambulatory COVID-19 survey (n = 906, ≥ 90 days follow-up) and an observational cohort of ambulatory and hospitalized individuals (n = 108, 360 days follow-up).

Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery in Germany in 2023 - Will We Have Sufficient Doctors in the Future?

There has been a growing shortage of physicians in Germany in recent years. In this study, we analyse the situation facing orthopaedic hospitals and trauma centres.Between 22 November and 5 December 2022, a web-based questionnaire was sent out by the Academy of the German Trauma Society (AUC) and by the Society of Leading Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeons (VLOU).

[Organizational redistribution of Ukrainian war wounded for care in Germany].

Due to the war in Ukraine, which began on February 24th, 2022, countless people are injured every day, regardless of whether they are civilians or soldiers. This has led to the Ukrainian healthcare system being massively overburdened and for this reason these patients are brought to Germany, among other places, to be treated here. This article is intended to show the way and the organizational effort required to distribute the patients to the clinics in Germany.
