The authors define corrected dates of three remarkable events of early history of radiology in Berlin, which have been wrongly reported in the literature. Compiled evidence from contemporary newspaper publications demonstrates that Röntgen delivered his lecture to kaiser William II on 12 January 1896. Paul Spies gave a lecture on Röntgen rays to the Reichstag on 13 February 1896.

Background/objectives: , , , and are known cancer predisposition genes (CPGs), but tumor risk in patients with simultaneous pathogenic variants (PVs) in CPGs remains largely unknown. In this study, we describe six patients from five families with multiple cancers who coinherited a combination of PVs in these genes.
Methods: PVs were identified using NGS DNA sequencing and were confirmed by Sanger.

Objectives: To evaluate an artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted double reading system for detecting clinically relevant missed findings on routinely reported chest radiographs.
Methods: A retrospective study was performed in two institutions, a secondary care hospital and tertiary referral oncology centre. Commercially available AI software performed a comparative analysis of chest radiographs and radiologists' authorised reports using a deep learning and natural language processing algorithm, respectively.

Purpose: To evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of artificial intelligence (AI) software in detecting incidental pulmonary embolism (IPE) at CT and shorten the time to diagnosis with use of radiologist reading worklist prioritization.
Materials And Methods: In this study with historical controls and prospective evaluation, regulatory-cleared AI software was evaluated to prioritize IPE on routine chest CT scans with intravenous contrast agent in adult oncology patients. Diagnostic accuracy metrics were calculated, and temporal end points, including detection and notification times (DNTs), were assessed during three time periods (April 2019 to September 2020): routine workflow without AI, human triage without AI, and worklist prioritization with AI.

Objectives: Only few published artificial intelligence (AI) studies for COVID-19 imaging have been externally validated. Assessing the generalizability of developed models is essential, especially when considering clinical implementation. We report the development of the International Consortium for COVID-19 Imaging AI (ICOVAI) model and perform independent external validation.

While the initial article was composed hastily by the editor in a journalistic style and contained no information on the nature of the new rays, the second publication was partly composed by the son of the editor, a physicist, who informed on some of the basic physical properties of the Röntgen rays.

Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) has become widely accepted to evaluate regional cerebral oxygen saturation (rScO2), potentially acting as a surrogate parameter of reduced cerebral oxygen delivery or increased consumption. Low preoperative rScO2 is associated with increased postoperative complications after cardiac surgery. However, its universal potential in pre-anesthesia risk assessment remains unclear.

Background: The lockdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has imposed some restrictions on hospital activities, requiring medical staff to find efficient alternatives to ensure adequate medical care for patients.
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the experience of pregnant women who delivered during the first wave of COVID-19, and to evaluate the impact of COVID-19-related restrictions.
Study Design: This was a retrospective multicenter study.

Pyrexia is a frequent adverse event of BRAF/MEK-inhibitor combination therapy in patients with metastasized malignant melanoma (MM). The study's objective was to identify laboratory changes which might correlate with the appearance of pyrexia. Initially, data of 38 MM patients treated with dabrafenib plus trametinib, of which 14 patients developed pyrexia, were analysed retrospectively.

Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a rare and chronic neutrophil inflammation belonging to the spectrum of autoinflammatory disorders. Immunosuppressive therapy is the cornerstone of successful treatment. However, due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, physicians struggle with therapeutic strategies during infection.

Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are well known immunotoxic and carcinogenic compounds. Although cutaneous symptoms are the hallmark of exposure to these compounds, exact pathophysiologic mechanisms are not well understood. We took skin biopsies from moderately high PCB exposed workers ( = 25) after an informed consent and investigated the expression of immunological markers such as CCL-7, CCL-20, CXCL2, IL-1β and IL-6, as well as the matrix metalloproteinase MMP-9, EPGN and NRF2 by RT-qPCR, and compared expression levels with plasma PCB levels.

Control of the ongoing severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic requires accurate laboratory testing to identify infected individuals while also clearing essential staff to continue to work. At the current time, a number of quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) assays have been developed to identify SARS-CoV-2, targeting multiple positions in the viral genome. While the mutation rate of SARS-CoV-2 is moderate, given the large number of transmission chains, it is prudent to monitor circulating viruses for variants that might compromise these assays.

Research Question: What are the current reproductive attitudes and experiences of women who have previously undergone planned oocyte cryopreservation (OoC)?
Design: Retrospective questionnaire-based cohort study involving women who had previously undergone planned OoC between January 2009 and September 2016 at a single centre. Eligible women were contacted via e-mail and invited to complete an anonymous standardized questionnaire that had been developed to evaluate their current relationship status and reproductive situation, their attitudes towards planned OoC and their future reproductive intentions.
Results: Of 460 women who had completed at least one OoC cycle, questionnaires were obtained from 138 women.

Background: There are no validated markers that predict response or resistance in patients with metastatic clear-cell renal cell carcinoma (mccRCC) treated with vascular endothelial growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors such as sunitinib and pazopanib. Recently, single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs2981582 in Fibroblast Growth Factor Receptor 2 (FGFR2) was found to be associated with clinical outcome in patients with mccRCC treated with pazopanib and sunitinib. We aimed to validate these findings in patients treated with sunitinib.

Objectives: To study the prevalence of hypogonadism in male patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) starting with targeted therapies and the impact of the vascular endothelial growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors (VEGFR-TKIs) sunitinib and pazopanib on the luteinizing hormone (LH)/testosterone (TT)-axis.
Methods: Male mRCC patients starting with targeted therapies were prospectively included in this study. TT- and LH-levels were sampled at start as well as during systemic therapy.

A boy, age 9, presented with deformation and pain of the left distal forearm, 1 year after a plate osteosynthesis for a distal radial metaphyseal fracture. This case showed a pediatric nonunion of a distal radial metaphyseal fracture which caused strong deformation of the left distal forearm. This is an extremely rare complication in children following an open reduction and internal fixation for a displaced distal forearm fracture.

A man, aged 55, presented with a spontaneous haemarthrosis of his right knee, 1 year after an unicompartmental knee replacement. This case showed an atraumatic rupture of the metal marker wire of an all-polyethylene inlay tibial implant which caused a destruction of the polyethylene surface and a disseminated synovitis of the right knee. This is a rare but destructive complication following an unicompartmental knee arthroplasty.
