Superior mesenteric venous (SMV) thrombosis is a rare complication of severe appendicitis. Early recognition is due to improved imaging modalities, which ultimately lead to more prompt intervention. Despite being an uncommon phenomenon, SMV thrombosis can have complications stemming from venous hypertension, such as gastric and esophageal varices, bowel ischemia, sepsis, and death.

Background: A failed prior Latarjet procedure can be a challenging situation for both patients and surgeons. The purpose of this study was to report on the techniques and outcomes of patients undergoing revision surgery for the treatment of recurrent anterior shoulder instability after a failed Latarjet procedure.
Methods: A systematic review was performed by searching PubMed, the Cochrane Library, and Embase to identify clinical studies which reported on surgical techniques for a failed Latarjet procedure with reporting of clinical outcomes.
Epicardial metastasis from mixed germ cell tumors is exceedingly rare and poses a significant risk for cardiac morbidity. This case highlights the crucial need for comprehensive systemic evaluation in patients with known malignancies presenting with cardiac symptoms.

Ectopic pancreas, also known as heterotopic pancreas, is a rare condition in which the pancreatic tissue is found outside its usual location in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. It is commonly asymptomatic and benign, and is often discovered incidentally during routine imaging, endoscopy, surgery, or autopsy. However, complications can arise, such as inflammation, bleeding, obstruction, or even malignant transformation, necessitating surgical intervention in some cases.

Bioprosthetic mitral valve degeneration is traditionally treated with Redo-SMVR, but the latest ViV-TMVR procedure offers a less invasive and lower risk alternative. A systematic literature search was conducted on Cochrane Central, Scopus, and Medline (PubMed interface) electronic databases from inception till 15th April 2024. We used risk ratios (RR) for dichotomous outcomes and mean differences (MD) for continuous outcomes.

Unlabelled: Subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) is a rare yet consequential medical emergency that may mimic an acute myocardial infarction (MI). SAH causes enhanced sympathetic activity, culminating in the development of neurogenic stunned myocardium (NSM), which presents as ST-segment deviations, prolonged QT intervals, T-wave inversions or Q-waves. Reperfusion therapy is contraindicated for SAH because of an increased risk of bleeding and death.

Anomalous aortic origin of the right coronary artery (RCA) is a rare anatomic anomaly that is present in ~1% of the general population, and is often discovered incidentally through imaging performed for another purpose. Despite being an uncommon phenomenon, aberrant right coronary arterial origins can have devastating manifestations in half of affected patients. These include myocardial infarction, arrhythmias, heart failure, syncope, and sudden cardiac death secondary to ischemia of the cardiac tissue.

Five long-acting (LA) antiretrovirals (ARVs) are currently available in a limited number of countries worldwide for HIV-1 prevention or treatment - cabotegravir, rilpivirine, lenacapavir, ibalizumab, and dapivirine. Implementing use of LA ARVs in routine clinical practice requires significant changes to the current framework of HIV-1 prevention, treatment, and service provision. Given the novelty, complexity, and interdisciplinary requirements of safe and optimal use of LA ARVs, consensus recommendations on the use of LA ARVs will assist clinicians in optimizing use of these agents.

Background: Bempedoic Acid (BA) is a novel drug that has a potential to serve as an alternative to statins to decrease lipid levels and improve cardiovascular disease (CVD) outcomes, particularly for statin-intolerant individuals. However, insufficient statistical power has limited our understanding of the efficacy and safety of BA. This meta-analysis utilizes the latest data to improve our knowledge of BA's effects on lipids and CVD with increased statistical power.
