Background: Heart failure with reduced ejection fraction is associated with potentially deleterious imbalance of the cardiac autonomic nervous system. Sacubitril/valsartan (angiotensin receptor-neprilysin inhibitor [ARNI]) reduces cardiovascular mortality and hospitalization for heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. Whether ARNI affects the cardiac autonomic nervous system has not been studied.

Prioritization and Resource Allocation in the Context of the COVID-19 Pandemic: Recommendations for Colorectal and Pancreatic Cancer in Germany.

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a scarcity of resources with various effects on the care of cancer patients. This paper provides an English summary of a German guideline on prioritization and resource allocation for colorectal and pancreatic cancer in the context of the pandemic. Based on a selective literature review as well as empirical and ethical analyses, the research team of the CancerCOVID Consortium drafted recommendations for prioritizing diagnostic and treatment measures for both entities.

Aortic Vascular Graft and Endograft Infection-Patient Outcome Cannot Be Determined Based on Pre-Operative Characteristics.

Vascular graft/endograft infection (VGEI) is a serious complication after aortic surgery. This study investigates VGEI and patient characteristics, PET/CT quantification before surgical or conservative management of VGEI and post-intervention outcomes in order to identify patients who might benefit from such a procedure. PET standard uptake values (SUV) were quantitatively assessed and compared to a non-VGEI cohort.

Calcar-guided short-stem total hip arthroplasty in fractures of the femoral neck: a prospective observational study of 68 hips.

Introduction: The indications for cementless short-stem total hip arthroplasty (THA) have been expanded due to encouraging results. However, no evidence in cases of femoral neck fractures (FNFs) is available. We aimed to prospectively obtain data on the safety and the clinical outcomes of a cementless calcar-guided short stem in patients with FNFs.

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to determine if the sphericity of the thumb metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint influences the joint's rotational axis (RA) and elongation patterns of the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL).

Methods: Ulnar collateral ligament origins and attachments of 28 fresh-frozen cadaveric thumbs were marked with a radiopaque marker. Lateral radiographs were obtained in neutral and 20°, 40°, and 60° of flexion.

Methods: We conducted a prospective, single-center study to investigate whether CBA for pulmonary vein isolation is as effective and safe in obese patients as it is in non-obese controls.

Effects of intermittent fasting on quality of life tolerance of chemotherapy in patients with gynecological cancers: study protocol of a randomized-controlled multi-center trial.

Unlabelled: Fatigue is a very common side effect during intravenous chemotherapy. Unfortunately, only few effective therapeutic options are available, mostly based on daily activity. In our pilot trial we were able to demonstrate that intermittent fasting can reduce fatigue in healthy people, thus we aimed to assess the effects of the fasting dietary on quality of life during chemotherapy in patients with gynecological cancer, especially on the domain of fatigue.

Background: Radiation exposure to patient and surgeon during cardiac implantable electrical device (CIED) procedures remains a substantial health hazard to date. Advanced technical options for radiation dose reduction often pose considerable financial hurdles. We propose a near-zero cost, low-effort modification to a clinical x-ray system significantly reducing radiation dose during CIED implantation.

This completely revised interdisciplinary S2k-guideline on the diagnosis, therapy, and follow-up care of female patients with urinary incontinence (AWMF registry number: 015-091) was published in December 2021. This guideline combines and summarizes earlier guidelines such as "Female stress urinary incontinence," "Female urge incontinence" and "Use of Ultrasonography in Urogynecological Diagnostics" for the first time. Background: Rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of the most common knee injuries and has substantial impact on knee function. Beside primary ruptures, an increasing number of re-(re-)ruptures occur, representing a therapeutical challenge for the treating surgeon. Several risk factors for re-ruptures have been previously identified, including an increased tibial slope.

SARS-CoV-2 neutralizing antibody therapies: an early retrospective cohort study of 26 hospitalized patients treated with bamlanivimab or casirivimab/imdevimab.

Objectives: In this early retrospective cohort study, a total of 26 patients with SARS-CoV-2 were treated with bamlanivimab or casirivimab/imdevimab, and the reduction of the viral load associated with the developed clinical symptoms was analyzed.

Methods: Patients in the intervention groups received bamlanivimab or casirivimab/imdevimab. Patients without treatment served as control.

Laparoscopic Electromyography and Electrostimulation of the Gastrointestinal Tract Before Placement of Theranostic Devices.

Need: Electrical stimulation (ES) is a promising therapy for multisegmental gastrointestinal (GI) motility disorders such as gastroparesis with slow-transit constipation or chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction. Wireless communicating GI devices for smart sensing and ES-based motility modulation will soon be available. Before placement, a potential benefit for each GI segment must be intraoperatively assessed.

Persistent Atrial Fibrillation in Elderly Patients: Limited Efficacy of Pulmonary Vein Isolation.

(1) Background: Cryoballoon pulmonary vein isolation (cryoPVI) is established for symptomatic paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) treatment, but its value in persistent AF is less clear. In particular, limited data are available on its efficacy in elderly patients (≥75 years) with persistent AF. Age is an important modifier of AF progression and represents a risk-factor for AF recurrence.
