Background: The 3F study (Fit&Fun with Football) demonstrated a significant reduction in blood pressure, antihypertensive medication, body weight, stress and depression through health football. Health football could be a popular tool to unleash the full preventive potential of physical activity. This work analyses the effect of health football on hypertensive subgroups: dipper, nondipper, white-coat hypertension (WCH), sustained hypertension, (un)treated hypertensive patients (UH, TH).

Chronic posttraumatic shoulder instability is characterized by trauma-associated, recurrent dislocations. Surgical treatment is indicated in most cases but it remains controversial how risk factors should be weighted to decide between arthroscopic Bankart repair (ABR), Latarjet or alternative procedures. Known risk factors for recurrence are patient age, hyperlaxity, sports profile and bone loss.

Objectives: In this early retrospective cohort study, a total of 26 patients with SARS-CoV-2 were treated with bamlanivimab or casirivimab/imdevimab, and the reduction of the viral load associated with the developed clinical symptoms was analyzed.
Methods: Patients in the intervention groups received bamlanivimab or casirivimab/imdevimab. Patients without treatment served as control.

Today there is no longer any doubt that diabetes mellitus is associated with cognitive impairment and neurodegenerative diseases. The two most common forms of diabetes mellitus are type 1 and type 2. Type 1 diabetes mellitus is characterized by an absolute insulin deficiency that is associated with a large number of metabolic changes.

(1) Background: The inherited alpha-1 antitrypsin (A1AT) deficiency variant 'Pi*Z' emerged as a genetic modifier of chronic liver disease. Controversial data exist on the relevance of heterozygous Pi*Z carriage ('Pi*MZ' genotype) as an additional risk factor in patients with chronic viral hepatitis C to develop progressive liver fibrosis. (2) Methods: Two prospectively recruited cohorts totaling 572 patients with therapy-naïve chronic viral hepatitis C (HCV) were analyzed.

Need: Electrical stimulation (ES) is a promising therapy for multisegmental gastrointestinal (GI) motility disorders such as gastroparesis with slow-transit constipation or chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction. Wireless communicating GI devices for smart sensing and ES-based motility modulation will soon be available. Before placement, a potential benefit for each GI segment must be intraoperatively assessed.

Pseudoaneurysms (PSA) are one of the most common complications after arterial punctures. This retrospective study examined whether platelet aggregation inhibitors (APT) or anticoagulants (AC) lower the success rates of PSA treatment. A total of 468 patients with PSA were retrospectively analyzed between 2010 and 2018, and 238 were included in the study.

Elimination strategies of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection aim to optimize the high antiviral potency of direct-acting antivirals (DAAs). Sphingolipids (SLs) constitute bioactive lipid compounds with a remarkable second messenger potential. SL levels associate with responsiveness to interferon treatment in HCV-patients, thus prompting the question whether failure to DAAs can be predicted by the serologic sphingolipidomic profile.

Objective: Safe placement of posterior cervical-sacral pedicle screws, S2-Ala-iliac screws, iliac screws, transarticular screws C1/2, translaminar screws C2 or cervical lateral mass screws under the guidance of spinal navigation.
Indications: All posterior spinal instrumentations with screws: instabilities and deformities of rheumatic, traumatic, neoplastic, infectious, iatrogenic or congenital origin; multilevel cervical spinal stenosis with degenerative instability or kyphosis of the affected spinal segment.
Contraindications: There are no absolute contraindications for spinal navigation.

Aims: Cryoballoon (CB)-based pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) is an effective treatment for atrial fibrillation (AF). The most frequent complication during CB-based PVI is right-sided phrenic nerve injury (PNI) which is leading to premature abortion of the freeze cycle. Here, we analysed reconnection rates after CB-based PVI and PNI in a large-scale population during repeat procedures.

(1) Background: Cryoballoon pulmonary vein isolation (cryoPVI) is established for symptomatic paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) treatment, but its value in persistent AF is less clear. In particular, limited data are available on its efficacy in elderly patients (≥75 years) with persistent AF. Age is an important modifier of AF progression and represents a risk-factor for AF recurrence.

Background & Objective: Asymptomatic microhematuria (aMh) remains a diagnostic challenge in urological practice: while aMh is a risk factor of urothelial carcinoma (UC), prevalence of aMh is high. Guidelines were developed to permit risk stratification and reduce diagnostic workload. This study investigates the efficacy of several recommendations.

Background & Aims: Data on the long-term persistence of HCV resistance-associated substitutions (RASs) after treatment with direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) are limited. This study evaluated the persistence of NS3, NS5A, and NS5B RASs for up to 5 years after the end of treatment (EOT).
Methods: We included samples from 678 individuals with an HCV genotype (GT) 1 or 3 infection and virologic DAA treatment failure collected in the European Resistance Database.

Aims: In the light of an increasing prevalence of atrial fibrillation (AF) and growing evidence for the superiority of early invasive rhythm control, the demand for ablation therapy is rising. Accordingly, ablation centres will have to maximize their capacity by either adding electrophysiology laboratory resources or optimizing process management. In order to optimize process management, we applied "Lean Six Sigma" method to a single ablation center.

Background: The 12-month follow-up (F/U) efficacy of CBA PVI performed at community hospitals for treatment of symptomatic paroxysmal and persistent atrial fibrillation (AF) is unknown. This study determined the 12-month efficacy of pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) using cryoballoon ablation (CBA) performed at community hospitals with limited annual case numbers.
Methods: This registry study included 983 consecutive patients (pts) from 19 hospitals, each with an annual procedural volume of < 100 PVI procedures/year.

Objectives: Within the last 2 decades, numerous interventions making use of high-reliability theory have been implemented to increase reliability in healthcare organizations. This systematic literature review first explores the concrete goals on which such interventions focus. Second, the review captures how the achievement of these goals, or alternatively a change, generally an increase in organizational reliability, is measured across different contexts.

(Leukaemia derived) dendritic cells (DC, DC) are potent stimulators of anti-leukaemic activity in acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) and can be generated with immunomodulatory kits containing granulocyte-macrophage-colony-stimulating-factor (GM-CSF), prostaglandin-E (PGE), prostaglandin-E (PGE) and/or picibanil (OK-321). Potential adverse effects initiated through kits, especially the proliferation of blasts, must be ruled out to ensure treatment safety. We quantified proliferating blasts with the proliferation markers CD71 and Ki-67 and the novel proliferation marker IPO-38 before and after kit treatment ex vivo.

Background: Differences in sexual development (DSD) are rare diseases, which affect the chromosomal, anatomical or gonadal sex differentiation. Although patient education is recommended as essential in a holistic care approach, standardised programmes are still lacking. The present protocol describes the aims, study design and methods of the Empower-DSD project, which developed an age-adapted multidisciplinary education programme to improve the diagnosis-specific knowledge, skills and empowerment of patients and their parents.
