Background: BCR-ABL is a constitutively active tyrosine kinase that stimulates multiple downstream signaling pathways to promote the survival and proliferation of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) cells. The clinical application of specific BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) has led to significantly improved prognosis and overall survival in CML patients compared to previous treatment regimens. However, direct targeting of BCR-ABL does not eradicate CML cells expressing T315I-mutated BCR-ABL.

The severity of environmental pollution caused by TiO nanoparticles (nTiO) is increasing, highlighting the urgent need for the development of strategies to combat nTiO pollution. Insights into resistance molecules from nTiO-tolerant strains may facilitate such development. In this study, we utilized multi-omics, genetic manipulation, physiological and biochemical experiments to identify relevant resistance molecules in two strains (Physarum polycephalum Z259 and T83) tolerated to mixed-phase nTiO (MPnTiO).

Neuroblastoma is a deadly pediatric cancer that originates from the neural crest and frequently develops in the abdomen or adrenal gland. Although multiple approaches, including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy, are recommended for treating neuroblastoma, the tumor will eventually develop resistance, leading to treatment failure and cancer relapse. Therefore, a firm understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying therapeutic resistance is vital for the development of new effective therapies.

Hydrogels have increasingly been used to enhance the effective healing of various wounds, including burn wounds. Similarly, the application of probiotics has recently been explored in wound healing and skin repairs. While probiotics have been consumed to provide therapeutic effects that aid with improving gut health, topical applications have been found to accelerate wound healing both in vitro and in vivo.

Honey composition and sensory properties depend greatly on its botanical and geographical origins. In this study, the sugar profile and sensory properties of honey samples from different geographical zones and botanical origins in Tanzania were investigated. Thirty-two samples (3 zones x 2 origins x 4 samples) + (2 zones × 1 origin x 4 samples) were collected from the seven regions in five zones as follows; Simiyu (lake zone), Tabora and Dodoma (central zone), Manyara (northern zone), Morogoro (eastern zone), and Kigoma and Katavi (western zone) and evaluated for sugar profile and sensory properties using standards methods.

Increased metalinguistic awareness (MLA) has been associated with improved performance in tasks of theory of mind; researchers have proposed that individuals with increased MLA, such as bilinguals, rely on metalinguistic skills when completing tasks that require taking other people's perspective into account compared to other individuals who mostly rely on general executive control to complete the same tasks. MLA would, therefore, act as a less effortful path to understanding other perspectives, especially when they differ from one's own. However, the evidence underlying this claim is scant and largely limited to children's theoretical frameworks.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disorder affecting nearly 105,000 patients worldwide and is characterized by poor respiratory function due to accumulation of thick mucus in the lungs, which not just acts as a physical barrier, but also provides a breeding ground for bacterial infections. These infections can be controlled with the help of antibiotics which can be delivered directly into the lungs for amplifying the local anti-bacterial effect. More than 50 % of CF patients are associated with Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection in their lungs which requires antibiotics such as Aztreonam (AZT).

Liver cancer is a global health challenge, causing a significant social-economic burden. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the predominant type of primary liver cancer, which is highly heterogeneous in terms of molecular and cellular signatures. Early-stage or small tumors are typically treated with surgery or ablation.

Patients suffering from BRAF mutant melanoma have tumor recurrence within merely 7 months of treatment with a potent BRAF inhibitor (BRAFi) like vemurafenib. It has been proven that diverse molecular pathways driving BRAFi resistance converge to activation of c-Myc in melanoma. Therefore, we identified a novel combinatorial therapeutic strategy by targeting loss of phosphatase and tensin homolog deleted on chromosome 10 (PTEN) tumor suppressor gene and upregulated BRD4 oncoprotein as Myc-dependent vulnerabilities of drug-resistant melanoma.

We investigate the factors that influence the variance in hospital charges and inpatient care for kidney transplant cases in the US. Using the AHRQ's (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality) HCUP's (Hospital Cost and Utilization Project) NIS (National Inpatient Sample) database, we find that variance in hospital charges and inpatient care is driven by patient demographics and hospital variables. We find that variance in hospital charges and inpatient care is determined by patient-specific factors including age, gender, race, and income, and hospital factors such as size, type, and location.

Objective: The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in health care workers experiencing temporary or permanent changes in employment due to layoffs, quits, and postpandemic increased job demand. Analyzing the association of the COVID-19 pandemic with employment changes and results of changes for practicing pharmacists and understanding the associations with demographic and work-related factors could inform practice, policy, and educational programs. This study aimed to explore the frequency, characteristics, and results of employment status changes (ESCs) experienced by pharmacists practicing pharmacy in March 2020 (ie, the start of the COVID-19 pandemic).

The conformational study of carbohydrates is critical to understand the molecular recognition mechanisms underlying their biological functions. Moreover, the systematic study of their conformational patterns can unlock useful tools to design optimized glycomimetics and drug candidates. Using nuclear magnetic resonance, we studied the interglycosidic rotamer equilibria of ester-protected and deprotected alkyl O-rutinosides (α-L-Rha(1,6)β-D-GlcOR).

The development of drug resistance remains a major challenge in cancer treatment. Ferroptosis, a unique type of regulated cell death, plays a pivotal role in inhibiting tumour growth, presenting new opportunities in treating chemotherapeutic resistance. Accumulating studies indicate that epigenetic modifications by non-coding RNAs (ncRNA) can determine cancer cell vulnerability to ferroptosis.

Tumor cells have distorted enzymatic houses, which change the metabolic state from oxidative phosphorylation to glycolysis with high lactate levels in a hypoxic environment. Redrafting the metabolic profile is an emerging hallmark of cancer. Glycolytic enzyme amplification occurs in about 70% of all malignancies.

Facebook is one of the most popular social networking sites. However, Facebook intrusion or addiction is a growing concern as it involves an excessive attachment to Facebook, which disrupts daily functioning. To date, few studies have examined whether cross-cultural differences in the measurement of Facebook addiction exist.
