Mental comorbidities in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1D) are common, and can have a negative impact on acute blood glucose levels and long-term metabolic control. Information on the association of T1D and comorbid posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) with diabetes-related outcomes is limited. The aim was to examine the associations between a clinical diagnosis of PTSD and diabetes-related outcomes in patients with T1D.

We have previously reported an in vivo enlargement of the left hypothalamus in mood disorders using 7 T magnetic resonance imaging. The aim of this follow-up study was to find out whether the hypothalamic volume difference may be located in the mammillary bodies (MB) rather than being widespread across the hypothalamus. We developed and evaluated a detailed segmentation algorithm that allowed a reliable segmentation of the MBs, and applied it to 20 unmedicated (MDDu) and 20 medicated patients with major depressive disorder, 21 medicated patients with bipolar disorder, and 23 controls.

There is evidence that racial discrimination at different levels has a major impact on mental health over the whole life span. It is related generally to poor health, with the relationship being particularly strong for mental health. All forms of structural, institutionalised, interpersonal and internalised racism as well as the cumulative impact of intersectional discrimination appear to be linked to mental health and well-being.

Purpose: Loneliness among the elderly is a widespread phenomenon and is connected to various negative health outcomes. Nevertheless, loneliness among elderly inpatients, especially those with a psychiatric diagnosis, has hardly been examined. Our study assessed loneliness in elderly inpatients, identified predictors, and compared levels of loneliness between inpatients on psychiatric and somatic wards.

Black people and People of Color are disproportionately affected by racism and show increased rates of psychosis. To examine whether racialized migrant groups are particularly exposed to racism and therefore have higher risks for psychosis, this paper (1) systematically assesses rates of psychosis among racialized migrant groups concerning the country of origin, and (2) analyzes interviews regarding the association of racism experiences with psychosis-related symptoms in racialized Black people and People of Color populations in Germany. We present an umbrella review of meta-analyses that report the incidence of positive symptoms (e.

Coercive measures (CM) and involuntary admission to psychiatric treatment can have detrimental consequences for patients. Past research shows that certain clinical, treatment and admission-related characteristics put patients at a higher risk of experiencing CM and involuntary admission. Although of high societal importance, the association between patients' communication ability and CM and involuntary admission has not been subject of past research.

Introduction: According to the EAU guidelines, botulinum toxin type A (BoNT-A) detrusor injections are one of the last options in the management of overactive bladder before opting for invasive surgery. So far, there have been no studies dedicated exclusively to such patients who have undergone this treatment and in whom this treatment has presumably failed. From the patient's point of view, there are questions regarding what reasons led to discontinuation, how patients perceive their BoNT-A treatment in hindsight, what further treatment do these patients receive, and how satisfied such patients are with their current situation.

Introduction And Hypothesis: Anterior colporrhaphy (AC) exhibits high recurrence rates, and this issue is not appropriately addressed by alloplastic material, which often necessitates reoperation. Aiming to improve the anatomical cure rate, we implemented double-layered anterior colporrhaphy (DAC). With a retrospective investigation, precise description and video of the surgical technique, we want to contribute to the development of native tissue anterior repair.

Background: Paramedics are frequently called to attend seizures in children. High-quality evidence on second-line treatment of benzodiazepine (BZD)-refractory convulsions with parenteral long-acting antiepileptic drugs in children has become available from the ED. In order to address the potential need for an alternative agent, we set out to determine the association of BZD use prehospital and the need for respiratory support.

The aim of the present study was to analyze the effects of the implementation of the Recovery-orientated psychiatric care concept "Weddinger Modell" on the incidence of forced medication, the total number of forced medication incidents per affected case, the maximum dose of a singular forced medication and the maximum voluntary daily drug dose of different psychotropic drugs administered during an inpatient stay. This retrospective case-control study included 234 patients. A pre/post-comparison of patients on two acute psychiatric wards before (control group, = 112) and after (intervention group, = 122) the implementation of the Weddinger Modell in 2010 was performed.

Neurodegenerative processes in the brain are reflected by structural retinal changes. As a possible biomarker of cognitive state in prodromal α-synucleinopathies, we compared melanopsin-mediated post-illumination pupil response (PIPR) with cognition (CERAD-plus) in 69 patients with isolated REM-sleep behavior disorder. PIPR was significantly correlated with cognitive domains, especially executive functioning (r = 0.

Background: Myasthenia gravis (MG) leads to exertion-dependent muscle weakness, but also psychological and social well-being are limited. We aim to describe the burden of disease in MG including sociodemographic, economical, psychosocial as well as clinical aspects, to compare health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of patients with MG to the general population (genP) and to explore risk factors for a lower HRQoL.
Methods: This case-control study was conducted with MG patients of the German Myasthenia Association.

Exposure to childhood trauma is a well-known risk factor for severe mental disorders including schizophrenia and other non-affective psychoses. Beyond childhood trauma, there is increasing evidence that bullying, social exclusion, and discrimination during adolescence and adulthood may increase the risk of developing a psychotic disorder, and that such forms of traumatization may also underlie the elevated psychosis risk among migrants or persons with a visible minority status. In this umbrella review, we systematically assess meta-analyses regarding trauma and social adversity.
