The present study explored the presence of torsional gaze-stabilization to proprioceptive neck activation in humans. Thirteen healthy subjects (6 female, mean age 25) were exposed to passive body rotations while maintaining a head-fixed, gravitationally upright, position. Participants were seated in a mechanical sled, their heads placed in a chin rest embedded in a wooden beam while wearing an eye tracker attached to the beam using strong rubber bands to ensure head stability.

Uveal melanoma (UM) metastasises in ~50% of patients, most frequently to the liver. Surveillance imaging can provide early detection of hepatic metastases; however, guidance regarding UM patient risk stratification for surveillance is unclear. This study compared sensitivity and specificity of four current prognostic systems, when used for risk stratification for surveillance, on patients treated at the Liverpool Ocular Oncology Centre (LOOC) between 2007-2016 ( = 1047).

Introduction: Lyme borreliosis can cause many diverse manifestations, also ocular disease where the diagnosis of ocular borreliosis is challenging. The primary aim was to report on the evidence of Borrelia spirochetes in the ocular tissue in presumed ocular borreliosis.
Methods: A systematic review of pathological eye conditions was performed where Borrelia has been suspected in relevant ocular tissue, together with a case report of diagnosed uveitis with polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-confirmed Borrelia afzelii in the vitreous.

Purpose: Assessing visual attention and alertness is of great importance in visual and cognitive neuroscience, providing objective measures valuable for both researchers and clinicians. This study investigates how the optokinetic response differs between levels of visual attention in healthy adults while controlling for alertness.
Methods: Twelve healthy subjects (8 men and 4 women; mean age = 33 ± 9.

Background: Lack of efficacy due to bad compliance caused by intolerance issues is the main reason for a change to a better tolerated ocular treatment, such as using preservative-free (PF) eye drops.
Aim: To assess the efficacy and local tolerance after 12 months and patient satisfaction regarding local treatment tolerance and handling at inclusion and after 6 months of PF latanoprost compared to preserved glaucoma eye drops.
Methods: This was an international, prospective, and observational real-life study.

Purpose: This study was conducted to determine whether mitochondria of the macular retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) change with age in rhesus monkeys (Macaca mulatta). Mitochondria are the main instigators of oxidative stress, which has often been considered to play a role in the pathogenesis of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Any pathological changes in the mitochondria of aging macular RPE, the main target of AMD, would be a clue to the pathogenesis of this common retinal degeneration afflicting both monkey and man.

Purpose: To collect comprehensive data on choroidal and ciliary body melanoma (CCBM) in children and to validate hypotheses regarding pediatric CCBM: children younger than 18 years, males, and those without ciliary body involvement (CBI) have more favorable survival prognosis than young adults 18 to 24 years of age, females, and those with CBI.
Design: Retrospective, multicenter observational study.
Participants: Two hundred ninety-nine patients from 24 ocular oncology centers, of whom 114 were children (median age, 15.

Purpose: To describe spontaneous corneal perforations in patients with atopic keratoconjunctivitis.
Methods: Records of patients with atopic keratoconjunctivitis and spontaneous corneal perforation seen by the authors were reviewed. A literature search of corneal complications in atopic keratoconjunctivitis and predisposing factors for spontaneous corneal perforations in corneal ectasias was undertaken.

The mol-ecular components of the title salt, [Cu(C4H11NO2)2](C8H4O4), are one Cu(II) cation O,N,O'-chelated by two tridentate 2-[(2-hy-droxy-eth-yl)amino]-ethanol ligands, and a terephthalate counter-dianion, located about a centre of inversion. The complex Cu(II) cation is located about a centre of inversion and shows typical Jahn-Teller distortion, with two short Cu-O and two short Cu-N bonds in the equatorial plane and two long Cu-O bonds to the axial atoms. The cations are arranged in sheets parallel to (100), with the centrosymmetric terephthalate anions located between the sheets.

In the title salt, [Cd(C6H15NO3)2](C8H4O4), the Cd(2+) cation is coordinated by six O atoms and two N atoms from two tetra-dentate 2-[bis-(2-hy-droxy-eth-yl)amino]-ethanol ligands, displaying a distorted square-anti-prismatic coordination. The terephthalate dianion does not coordinate to the cation but is connected through O⋯H-O hydrogen bonds of medium strength to the complex cations, leading to a layered structure extending parallel to (100).

In the title salt, [Zn(C6H15NO3)2](C8H4O4), the Zn(II) cation, located on a centre of inversion, is coordinated by four O atoms and two N atoms from two tridentate 2-[bis-(2-hy-droxy-eth-yl)amino]-ethanol (BHEA) ligands, giving rise to a slightly distorted octa-hedral geometry. The terephthalate dianion, located about a centre of inversion, is not coordinated to Zn(II) but is connected through O-H⋯O contacts with [Zn(BHEA)2](2+) cations, leading to a three-dimensional crystal structure.

Two 4,4'-[1,3-phenyl-enebis(-oxy)]dibenzoate anions bridge two 1,10-phenanthroline-chelated Zn(II) cations about a center of inversion to generate the dinuclear title compound, [Zn2(C20H12O6)2(C12H8N2)2]·2H2O. The geometry about the Zn(II) atom is a distorted octa-hedron. In the crystal, the mol-ecules are connected by classical O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds and C-H⋯π inter-actions, forming a three dimensional network.

Cataract is the leading cause of blindness in the world (1). The World Health Organization defines cataract as a clouding of the lens of the eye which impedes the transfer of light. Cataract is a multi-factorial disease associated with diabetes, smoking, ultraviolet radiation (UVR), alcohol, ionizing radiation, steroids and hypertension.

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the evolution of expression of mRNA message for the genes for the genome stress sensor GADD45α, the apoptosis initiator TP53 and the apoptosis executor CASP3 in the rat lens in vivo in response to exposure to UVR around 300 nm. Forty six week old female albino Sprague-Dawley rats were unilaterally exposed to double threshold dose for cataract induction, 8 kJ/m(2) (8.9 W/m(2) for 15 min), of UVR (λ(max) = 300 nm).
