Patients with phenylketonuria (PKU) present signs of impaired executive functioning and bone health in adolescence and adulthood, depending in part on the success of therapy in childhood. Therefore, nine children with well-treated PKU (4-7 years old, 22.2% ♀, seven with a full set of data, two included into partial analysis) and 18 age-, gender- and season-matched controls were analyzed for differences in executive functioning and bone parameters in plasma.

Introduction: Achieving a slow and smooth electrode array insertion is paramount for preserving structural and functional integrity during cochlear implantation. This controlled study evaluates the efficacy of a metronome-guided insertion technique in enhancing the smoothness and speed of electrode array insertions.
Methods: In a prospective cohort study, patients undergoing cochlear implant surgery between 2022 and 2023 with lateral wall electrode arrays were included.

Background: The Children's and Infant's Postoperative Pain Scale (CHIPPS) and the German version of the Parent's Postoperative Pain Measure (PPPM-D) are used to assess postoperative pain intensity in preschool children. However, they have shown low concordance in previous prospective studies on quality improvement.
Aims: Our secondary analysis aimed to estimate the association strength between the pain score items and indication for rescue medication defined as CHIPPS ≥4 and/or PPPD-D ≥ 6.

Background: This investigation examined the development of psychosomatics in the field of otolaryngology in Germany using the examples of psychogenic deafness and chronic tinnitus by means of literature research. The focus of the study was on the period 1948-2022.
Methods: A literature search was carried out in the PubMed database from 1948 and antiquarian ENT textbooks were evaluated.
Impedance measurements are routinely performed during cochlear implantation (CI) after finalized electrode insertion. They may allow conclusions on the electrode's and implant's function. In the postoperative setting, the analysis of impedance changes enables the identification of scarring or inflammation processes around the electrode.

Methods: Pre-operative computer-tomography (CT) scans of temporal bones of 112 ears with various inner ear malformation (IEM) types were taken for analysis. Images were analyzed using DICOM viewers, 3D slicer, and OTOPLAN®.

The development of digital strategies in teaching is based on the technological progress of the last decades, but also on the strong motivation to focus a didactic concept on the learning individuals. The available data of German medical faculties indicate that digital teaching concepts currently play a subordinate role in medicine in general and specifically in otorhinolaryngology. By assessing data of our own institution, we could demonstrate that the majority of medical students refer mainly to material handed out by the lecturers as single source of information for learning Otorhinolaryngology.

The majority of patients with moderate to severe hearing loss can be supplied with conventional hearing aids depending on severity and cause for hearing loss in a satisfying way. However, some patients either do not benefit enough from conventional hearing aids or cannot wear them due to inflammatory reactions and chronic infections of the external auditory canal or due to anatomical reasons. For these patients there are fully- and semi-implantable middle ear and bone conduction implants available.
