Critically ill neonates who survive are often left with dire consequences. Cerebral palsy, other neurological and motor deficiencies, intellectual disability, and various degrees of cognitive and behavioral deficiencies all result from neonatal critical diseases. We investigated psychomotor development in 20 children with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), and as newborns often have multiple comorbidities, the following as well: HIE with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), infections, hypo and hyperglycemia and hypocalcemia.

Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a chronic disorder resulting from exposure to traumatic events. In recent years, sympathetic nerve blocks have gained interest as an emerging treatment modality for PTSD. They have been shown to reduce autonomic dysfunction associated with PTSD symptoms, particularly in refractory and treatment-resistant patients.

Primary hypothyroidism caused by an underlying autoimmune thyroiditis disease is very common in clinical practice, while one of the most commonly seen types of hyperthyroidism states is Graves' disease. In hypothyroidism, patients are thought to be lifelong treated with substitution therapy with the lacking levothyroxine hormone. Usually due to the started autoimmune process that progressively destroys the thyroid tissue, the doses of levothyroxine increase in a different period of time during the follow ups.

Nearly 90% of Americans are exposed to a traumatic event at some point in their lives, and over 8% of those individuals will develop posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Our study examined the demographic differences and psychiatric comorbidities in inpatients with PTSD with and without somatic symptom disorders (SSDs), using data from the Nationwide Inpatient Sample for 2018 and 2019. Our sample included 12,760 adult patients with a primary diagnosis of PTSD, which was further subdivided based on a codiagnosis of SSD.

The frequency of ABO, Rh and Kell blood group antigens differs among populations of different ethnic ancestry. There are low-frequency antigens (<1%) and high-frequency antigens (>90%). A rare blood group is defined as the absence of a high-frequency antigen in the general population, as well as absence of multiple frequent antigens within a single or multiple blood group systems.

The nucleolus is an important nucleus sub-organelle found in almost all eukaryotic cells. On the one hand, it is known as a differentiated active site of ribosome biogenesis in somatic cells, but on the other hand, in fully grown oocytes, zygotes, and early embryos (up to the major embryonic genome activation), it is in the form of a particular homogenous and compact structure called a fibrillar sphere. Nowadays, thanks to recent studies, we know many important functions of this, no doubt, interesting membraneless nucleus sub-organelle involved in oocyte maturation, embryonic genome activation, rRNA synthesis, etc.

Ending all violence against children by 2030 is a core part of Sustainable Development Goals 5 and 16. A number of promising violence reduction strategies have been identified in research studies. However, we lack an understanding of the implementation and impact of these programs in respect to their delivery at a large scale or within existing service systems, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Objective: The emergency operations center (EOC) is an essential component of modern emergency management. Traditionally understood as a place where officials communicate with the public, support coordination, manage operations, craft policy, gather information, and host visitors; there has been little recent research on their structure, operations, or work procedures. EOCs may in fact be, as we argue here, places where emergency managers come to find workarounds, delegate tasks, and find new sources of expertise in order to make sense, make meaning, and make decisions.

Helminth infections, mainly by gastrointestinal nematodes (GIN), are one of the main concerns for animal health, welfare and productivity in grazing ruminant livestock worldwide. The use of a sensitive, precise, accurate, low-cost, and easy-to-perform copromicroscopic technique is of pivotal importance to perform reliable fecal egg count (FEC) and fecal egg count reduction test (FECRT), in order to determine the need of anthelmintic treatment, but also anthelmintic efficacy or resistance. This approach is fundamental to a correct and efficient control of GIN.

According to Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer classification, transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is preferred treatment for stage B and in certain cases for stage A hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Conventional TACE (c-TACE) and drug-eluting microspheres TACE (DEM-TACE) are available intraarterial therapies. Screening of patients with cirrhosis is of great importance for early detection of malignant liver nodules.

Fast, simple, accurate, and reproducible reverse phase-high-performance liquid chromatography method with direct ultraviolet measurement of memantine hydrochloride in tablets was developed, without any chemical derivatization pretreatment. Three main problems appear during chromatographic analysis of memantine: detection, achieving appropriate column retention, and limited choice of mobile phase components, as a result of memantine molecular structure. Among more than 35 tested columns, the best retention and peak symmetry yielded two C8 and three C18 columns with different characteristics, at a temperature of 30°C, mobile phase composed of 1%, v/v, acetonitrile and 99%, v/v, of 0.

The fatty acid (FA) profiles of lamb muscle and adipose tissue originating from ten different grazing areas in North Macedonia and an assessment of whether the meat origin could be distinguished on the basis of FA profile are presented. Muscle and adipose tissues of three-month-old male lambs (crossbreds of autochthonous Ovcepolian and Württemberg) reared on spring pastures were studied. Statistically significant differences in the individual FA contents, FA groups and FA ratios were observed between lamb tissues from the different geographic regions.

There is very limited information available on child and adolescent psychiatry (CAP) training in the Southeast European (SEE) region. The objective of this study was to fill in this gap by presenting descriptive data on CAP training and national mental health services for children and adolescent in 11 SEE countries. On the initiative of World Psychiatric Association-CAP section, national CAP association boards from each SEE country allocated one member to the Consortium on Academic Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in SEE (CACAP SEE) in 2018.

Background: Non-displaced femoral neck fractures are mostly treated with internal fixation, while in dis-placed fractures this surgical option is under debate and the benefits are still not clear. The purpose of this study was to identify the factors that affect the treatment of non-displaced and displaced hip fractures using a head-preserving plate.
Material And Methods: From August 2011 to May 2015, we reviewed eighty-two adult patients who had sustained undisplaced and displaced intracapsular femoral neck fracture treated with a locking plate system with telescoping sliding screws.

The studies that evaluated blood loss during hip surgery found a relatively small loss that does not explain the large hemoglobin drop postoperatively. The aim of this study was to determine the fall in hemoglobin level after admission and rehydration in patients with hip fractures and to identify the patients that need blood transfusion. This retrospective study included data on 374 patients with hip fracture with surgery delayed by more than 24 hours and complete blood count repeated prior to surgery after fluid resuscitation for a minimum of 24 hours.

Farming was first introduced to Europe in the mid-seventh millennium bc, and was associated with migrants from Anatolia who settled in the southeast before spreading throughout Europe. Here, to understand the dynamics of this process, we analysed genome-wide ancient DNA data from 225 individuals who lived in southeastern Europe and surrounding regions between 12000 and 500 bc. We document a west-east cline of ancestry in indigenous hunter-gatherers and, in eastern Europe, the early stages in the formation of Bronze Age steppe ancestry.

The spinal accessory nerve (SAN) or XI cranial nerve is frequently encountered during neck surgery, and as such is at risk of iatrogenic injury, resulting in "shoulder syndrome". Modified neck dissection (MND) with preservation of the SAN is based on desire to minimise the functional deformity associated with section of the eleventh nerve. The aim of this study was to analyse the intra-operative variations of the spinal accessory nerve pathway and to evaluate shoulder dysfunction postoperatively.
