Consistency and clear guidelines on dosimetry are essential for accurate and precise dosimetry, to ensure the best patient outcomes and to allow direct dose comparison across different centres. Magnetic Resonance Imaging Linac (MRI-linac) systems have recently been introduced to Australasian clinics. This report provides recommendations on reference dosimetry measurements for MRI-linacs on behalf of the Australiasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM) MRI-linac working group.

(1) Background: There is wide variation in the reported prevalence rates for pelvic organ prolapse (POP). There is also wide variation in the rate at which surgical interventions for pelvic organ prolapse are performed, as well as the type of interventions undertaken. As part of the International Consultation on Incontinence (ICI), our committee was tasked to produce evidence-based pathways for the surgical management of POP, any associated stress urinary incontinence (SUI), and bowel dysfunction.

Introduction And Hypothesis: The aim was to compare objective and subjective cure rates between Uphold™ hysteropexy (HP) and vaginal hysterectomy (VH) with uterosacral suspension.
Methods: A sample size of 49 in each arm would be required to detect a clinical difference of 20% between the groups. Owing to delayed recruitment, this originally planned randomised controlled trial was changed to a patient preference study after randomising initial 6 participants.

Multiple treatment options exist for the management of late-stage hallux rigidus. The goals of treatment are pain reduction and restoration of function. Arthrodesis remains the treatment of choice, but recent advances support the use of first metatarsophalangeal hemiarthroplasty as a viable and successful option in properly selected patients in whom preservation of motion and function are desirable.

This review begins with a perspective on the effects of arterial aging on society and world events over the past century. Until recently, the use of just one technique to measure blood pressure non-invasively limited progress in understanding the mechanisms involved and the potential of antihypertensive drug therapies. New methods for extracting information from the arterial waveform have followed the (re)introduction of arterial tonometry into clinical practice, together with mathematical analysis in the frequency and time domains.

We report on 13 cases of periprosthetic stress fracture at the sleeve/stem junction using the Sivash-Range of Motion femoral prosthesis. Radioisotope bone scans confirmed the incidence of fracture, and review of the lateral radiographs revealed anteromedial notching of the distal sleeve on the metaphyseal throat of the femur. Treatment in all cases was expectant with full resolution of symptoms.

Objective: Currently, there is minimal published data on the use of heparin-coated stents in the neurovasculature; however, these stents have a proven clinical record in the treatment of coronary disease. This article details our experience with the safety and technical aspects of stent deployment in the first 10 patients who had heparin-coated stents placed in the intracranial and cervical vasculature and the preliminary follow-up in most cases.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the clinical history, intra- and periprocedural data, and imaging for the patients who received heparin-coated stents in the cervical and intracranial vasculature for cerebrovascular disease between October 2002 and October 2003.

The bioengineer has more to contribute to medicine than he/she ever has in the past. The successful contribution must be based on such experiences as described by Donald McDonald in his collaboration with John Womersley. Clinician and engineer must come to know the other's problems, their weaknesses and their strengths.

Blood pressure indices reveal pertinent information regarding the risk factors associated with certain cardiovascular conditions. In the last decade, research has focused on determining which module of measurement is most relevant as well as exploring new investigative techniques to aid in detection and treatment of cardiovascular disease (CVD). The rates of isolated systolic hypertension, arteriosclerosis and other diseases associated with ageing continue to rise as the elderly population grows.
