Background: Supratentorial function-eloquent brain tumour surgeries challenge the balance between maximal tumour resection and preservation of neurological function. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of preoperative and intraoperative mapping techniques on resection outcomes and post-operative deficits.

Methods: This systematic review and meta-analysis examined literature up to March 2023, sourced from PubMed, Embase, and Medline.

Prognosis prediction of α-FAtE score for locoregional immunotherapy in hepatocellular carcinoma.

Purpose: The α-FAtE score, composed of alpha-fetoprotein, alkaline phosphatase, and eosinophil levels, has been reported as a predictor of prognosis in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients treated with atezolizumab plus bevacizumab. This study aimed to investigate the predictive ability of α-FAtE score for the efficacy and safety of locoregional immunotherapy as the treatment of HCC patients.

Methods And Patients: We conducted a retrospective study of 446 HCC patients at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center from January 1 2019 to January 1 2023.

Desensitization With Imlifidase for HLA-Incompatible Deceased Donor Kidney Transplantation: A Delphi International Expert Consensus.

Highly sensitized (HS) patients in need of kidney transplantation (KTx) typically spend a longer time waiting for compatible kidneys, are unlikely to receive an organ offer, and are at increased risk of antibody-mediated rejection (AMR). Desensitization using imlifidase, which is more rapid and removes total body immunoglobulin G (IgG) to a greater extent than other methods, enables transplantation to occur between HLA-incompatible (HLAi) donor-recipient pairs and allows patients to have greater access to KTx. However, when the project was launched there was limited data and clinical experience with desensitization in general and with imlifidase specifically.

This study aimed to develop a prediction model based on the TIMI risk score for MACE in STEMI patients after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).

Methods: We conducted a retrospective data analysis on 290 acute STEMI patients admitted to the Affiliated Hospital of Yangzhou University from January 2022 to June 2023 and met the inclusion criteria.

Methods: A randomized selection of 40 T2DM patients from Sindh Government Hospital New Karachi with their consents was done for a non-blinded controlled trial from October to December 2019 and divided into P (Positive Control, metformin 500 mg) & T (Test, + was also included, using the same dosage of CapCASP on twenty healthy volunteers. The data were analyzed using an online graph pad student's t-test and a one-way ANOVA (SPSS version 24) metformin 500mg each).

A recurrent variant c.5126C>T in a Han-Chinese family with tuberous sclerosis complex.

Objective: To identify the disease-causing variant in a family with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC).

Methods: This study including a Han-Chinese pedigree recruited from the Third Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, Changsha, Hunan, China was conducted between February, 2019 and January, 2023. Detailed clinical examinations were performed on the proband and other family members of a Han-Chinese family with TSC.

Survival after venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation for acute high-risk Pulmonary Embolism: A meta-analysis of comparative studies.

Objective: The survival benefit of venoarterial Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) for the management of acute high-risk pulmonary embolism (PE) remains unclear. This meta-analysis combines data from comparative studies to assess the risk of mortality after ECMO vs standard care in the management of acute high-risk PE.

Methods: Databases of PubMed, CENTRAL, Scopus, Web of Science, and Embase were searched from 01 January 2000 to 24 March 2023 for comparative studies with at least 10 patients/group comparing ECMO vs standard treatment.

Prevalence and predictors of obstructive sleep apnea in patients with bipolar disorder: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background & Objective: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) has been increasingly recognized as a comorbidity in many psychiatric disorders, including bipolar disorder (BD). This study aimed to synthesize existing evidence to determine the frequency of OSA in patients diagnosed with BD and identify potential predictors of its occurrence.

Methods: PubMed, Scopus, CENTRAL (Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials), and Google Scholar databases were searched for English-language papers published up from 1 January 1960 to 31 October 2023 that reported incidences of OSA in patients with BP and provided sufficient data for quantitative analysis.

Integrating e-learning into the educational framework for undergraduate medical training: a Nigerian survey on trainers´ perception and readiness.

Aim: The study aimed to determine the incidence of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) among newly diagnosed tuberculosis (TB) patients receiving daily drug regimen with fixed-dose combination treatment under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Program.

Materials And Methods: A community-based prospective cohort study was carried out in the Udupi district. Over 12 months, all newly diagnosed TB patients of either gender were included from 63 primary health centers and 6 community health centers, and ADRs were recorded by personal interviews.

The short-, medium-, and long-term prevalence of physical health comorbidities in first-episode psychosis: a systematic review and meta-analysis protocol.

Background: Individuals with first-episode psychosis (FEP) face an increased risk of physical comorbidities, notably cardiovascular diseases, metabolic disorders, respiratory disorders, and certain types of cancer. Previous reviews report pooled physical health prevalence from chronic psychosis and FEP groups. By contrast, this review will focus on antipsychotic-naïve FEP cohorts and incorporate data from observational longitudinal studies and antipsychotic intervention studies to understand the progression of physical health comorbidities from the onset to later stages of psychosis.

Given the increasing reliance on social media platforms such as Facebook for health-related discourse, there are concerns about the accuracy and quality of the shared information.

In India, healthcare systems have only recently begun addressing the unique needs of TGD individuals, particularly with the advent of the Transgender Persons Act 2019. Dynamics of HDL-Cholesterol Following a Post-Myocardial Infarction Cardiac Rehabilitation Program.

Background: Exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation programs (CRP) are recommended for patients following acute coronary syndrome to potentially improve high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels and prognosis. However, not all patients reach target HDL-C levels. Here we analyze the dynamics and predictors of HDL-C increase during CRP in patients following ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction or occlusion myocardial infarction.

Background: To explore the association between gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) and in-hospital heart failure (HF) in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).

Methods: A total of 412 patients diagnosed with STEMI and treated with primary PCI were included in our study. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression models were used to evaluate the association between GGT and the risk of in-hospital HF in STEMI patients.

Background: Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) affect around 7.6 million people in the UK, disproportionately affecting the minority ethnic community. In 2009, the UK's National Health Service (NHS) launched a Health Check (NHSHC) scheme to improve early diagnosis of various clinical conditions, including CVD, by screening patients for associated risk factors.

Inpatient Versus Outpatient MRI? Outcomes for Hospitalized Patients With New Liver Masses.

No guidelines exist to guide hospitalists on whether inpatient MRI should be pursued for incidental liver masses. Here, we compare outcomes between patients who receive an inpatient MRI and those who did not, following detection of suspicious liver masses during hospitalization. A retrospective study of hospitalized patients with new HCC from Jan 1st, 2020 through Dec 31st, 2021 was conducted.

Infliximab Precision Dosing in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Patients: A Review of Current Literature.

The therapeutic failure of infliximab therapy remains a challenge in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and dose optimization is often required. Accelerated or intensified regimes showed value in treating patients in the acute setting with high CRP or low albumin levels, which are suggested by recent guidelines; however, evidence is weak. Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM), with anti-tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) trough levels and antibodies, showed value during maintenance therapy, but not in induction and can guide clinical decisions in patients that might be undertreated with the standard dosing regimen.

Cancer History, Antiphospholipid Syndrome, and Lupus Anticoagulant: A Perfect Storm for Thrombosis.

Cancer and antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) independently increase thrombotic risk, and their coexistence can create a particularly hazardous prothrombotic state. This case report aims to highlight the complex challenges in managing concurrent thrombotic and hemorrhagic events in patients with a history of cancer and APS. The combination of these conditions presents a rare and difficult clinical scenario, requiring careful consideration in anticoagulation management.

Background: Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with RAM immunophenotype is a newly recognized high-risk AML immunophenotypic subcategory characterized by blasts with bright expression of CD56 and weak to absent expression of CD45, HLA-DR, and CD38, as first described by the Children's Oncology Group (COG). The relationship between AML-RAM and other CD56-positive acute leukemias is unclear. The goal of this study is to characterize the clinicopathological characteristics of AML with RAM phenotype and compare them with other CD56 co-expressing acute leukemias.

Pneumonia in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia treated with venetoclax-based regimens: A real-world analysis of Polish Adult Leukemia Group (PALG).

Background: Patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) are susceptible to infections that can affect their clinical outcomes.

Aims: To assess: (1) the incidence of pneumonia in CLL patients treated with venetoclax-based regimens in a real-world setting, (2) the risk factors for event-free survival (EFS), and (3) overall survival (OS).

Introduction: Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is an inflammatory disorder of the peripheral nervous system, causing acute flaccid paralysis. There have been occasional reports linking Hepatitis A virus (HAV) to GBS. Here we aimed to evaluate the current literature on the association between GBS and HAV, exploring potential mechanisms and clinical implications.

Assessment of ECG Criteria for the Diagnosis of Right Ventricular Involvement.

Objectives: This study was performed to assess the accuracy of standard electrocardiographic criteria in diagnosing of right ventricular (RV) involvement in patients with inferior myocardial infarction (IMI).

Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of patients admitted with an IMI. Proximal occlusion of the right coronary artery before the origin of the RV branch on angiography was considered diagnostic of RV involvement.
