Some people living with HIV might need to pay attention to their mental health during the COVID-19 two years pandemic in Tokyo until the Omicron variant occur.

People living with HIV (PLWH) have a higher prevalence of psychiatric disorders than the general population. We retrospectively examined the medical records of PLWH who underwent the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale-10, the Patient Health Questionnaire-9, and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 at an HIV referral hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic. Some PLWH who were unemployed with a history of psychiatric visits may remain in poor mental health during the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic until the Omicron variant occurs, so they may need to pay attention to their mental health.

Low Risk of Failing Direct-Acting Antivirals in People With Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Hepatitis C Virus From Sub-Saharan Africa or Southeastern Asia: A European Cross-Sectional Study.

Background: Several studies have reported suboptimal efficacy of direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) to treat hepatitis C virus (HCV) subtypes endemic to sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) and Southeastern Asia (SEA). The extent of this issue in individuals with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/HCV from SSA or SEA residing in Europe is unknown.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed data from several prospective European cohorts of people living with HIV.

Aetiology of acute respiratory infection in preschool children requiring hospitalisation in Europe-results from the PED-MERMAIDS multicentre case-control study.

Background: Both pathogenic bacteria and viruses are frequently detected in the nasopharynx (NP) of children in the absence of acute respiratory infection (ARI) symptoms. The aim of this study was to estimate the aetiological fractions for ARI hospitalisation in children for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and influenza virus and to determine whether detection of specific respiratory pathogens on NP samples was associated with ARI hospitalisation.

Methods: 349 children up to 5 years of age hospitalised for ARI (following a symptom-based case definition) and 306 hospital controls were prospectively enrolled in 16 centres across seven European Union countries between 2016 and 2019.

Palliative Care in SMA Type 1: A Prospective Multicenter French Study Based on Parents' Reports.

Spinal muscular atrophy type 1 (SMA-1) is a severe neurodegenerative disorder, which in the absence of curative treatment, leads to death before 1 year of age in most cases. Caring for these short-lived and severely impaired infants requires palliative management. New drugs (nusinersen) have recently been developed that may modify SMA-1 natural history and thus raise ethical concerns about the appropriate level of care for patients.

Intraoperative neuromonitoring during reverse shoulder arthroplasty.

Introduction: There is uncertainty as to whether the Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) subtypes, acute inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (AIDP) and acute motor axonal neuropathy (AMAN), can be diagnosed electrophysiologically.

Methods: We prospectively included 58 GBS patients. Electrodiagnostic testing (EDX) was performed at means of 5 and 33 days after disease onset.

Clinical Outcome of Arthroscopic Remplissage as Augmentation During Arthroscopic Bankart Repair for Recurrent Anterior Shoulder Instability.

Purpose: We aimed to assess functional outcomes and postoperative recurrence rate associated with the remplissage procedure used for bone augmentation with Bankart repair in patients with Hill-Sachs lesions after shoulder dislocation.

Methods: Preoperative computed tomography was performed to check for bony Bankart lesions,calculate the bone defect rate, and estimate the risk for re-dislocation. Functional and clinical scores were assessed preoperatively and at three months, six months, and one year postoperatively.

Fitzpatrick skin phototype classification is widely used to assess risk factors for skin cancers. This skin type evaluation is easy to use in clinical practice but is not always applied as initially described, nor practiced in a standardised way. This can have implications on the results of relevant dermato-epidemiological studies.

Clinical and Confocal Microscopy Study of Plasma Exeresis for Nonsurgical Blepharoplasty of the Upper Eyelid: A Pilot Study.

Background: Plasma exeresis is an evolving technique for nonsurgical treatment of several skin conditions. Reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) is a noninvasive tool that allows the "in vivo" imaging of the skin.

Objective: To evaluate the clinical improvement and collagen remodeling of the upper eyelid dermatochalasis after plasma exeresis.

Shear wave velocity measurement of upper trapezius muscle by color Doppler shear wave imaging.

Purpose: Skeletal muscle stiffness is thought to be the result of increased tissue hardness, but measurement accuracy has been dependent on operator technique. We have proposed a novel shear wave real-time imaging method (color Doppler shear wave imaging: CD SWI) with continuous shear waves excited from the tissue surface by a mechanical vibrator.

Methods: Using the method, shear wave velocity was measured for the upper trapezius muscle.

Cannabis body packing: a case report.

Drug traffic is a major concern worldwide. We report a case of a 27-year old male who presented with a diffuse abdominal plain to the emergency department. Abdominal X-ray demonstrated multiple foreign bodies along the intestinal tract, which were found to be cannabis packets.

Is systematic screening and treatment for latent tuberculosis infection in HIV patients useful in a low endemic setting?

Objectives: A decreasing incidence of tuberculosis (TB) among HIV patients has been documented in high-income settings and screening for tuberculosis is not systematically performed in many clinics (such as ours). Our objectives are to evaluate whether a same decline of incidence was seen in our Belgian tertiary center and to evaluate whether systematic screening and prophylaxis of tuberculosis should remain part of routine practice.

Methods: Between 2005 and 2012, the annual incidence of tuberculosis among adult HIV patients was measured.

Background: Antiretroviral (ART) drugs have been associated with higher triglycerides (TG), higher total cholesterol (TC) and lower high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels. Associations between lipid levels with HIV viraemia and immunosuppression in the presence of ART remain unclear.

Background: Exposure to ultraviolet radiation (UVR) is the most important external risk factor for skin cancer. Outdoor workers, who are exposed to high ambient UVR levels are at increased risk.

Computer tomography imaging of an unusual cause of appendicitis: a case report.

Foreign body occlusion of appendices lumen is a quite rare cause of appendicitis due to foreign body. We present a case of a 63-year-old male who presented with right lower quadrant pain since 24 hours. Computed tomography (CT) demonstrated an acute appendicitis due to a metallic foreign body which was found to be a bullet.

An updated prediction model of the global risk of cardiovascular disease in HIV-positive persons: The Data-collection on Adverse Effects of Anti-HIV Drugs (D:A:D) study.

Background: With the aging of the population living with HIV, the absolute risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) is increasing. There is a need to further facilitate the identification of persons at elevated risk in routine practice.

Methods And Results: Prospective information was collected on 32,663 HIV-positive persons from 20 countries in Europe and Australia, who were free of CVD at entry into the Data-collection on Adverse Effects of Anti-HIV Drugs (D:A:D) study.

Temocillin (6 g daily) in critically ill patients: continuous infusion versus three times daily administration.

Objectives: The growing incidence of infections caused by Enterobacteriaceae producing ESBLs has led to increased use of carbapenems. Temocillin, which resists most β-lactamases, may be a useful alternative. The aim of this study was to assess the pharmacokinetics and target attainment rates of 6 g of temocillin daily divided into three administrations every 8 h (three times daily) or administered by continuous infusion in critically ill patients.

Effects of switching to protease inhibitor monotherapy on nucleoside analogue-related adverse events.

Switching from triple combination treatment to protease inhibitor monotherapy may increase the risk of elevations in HIV RNA, and is not recommended in most international treatment guidelines. However, the use of protease inhibitor monotherapy could prevent or reverse adverse events related to long-term use of nucleoside analogues, such as lipoatrophy, renal adverse events, osteopenia, and anemia. A detailed MEDLINE search was conducted to identify randomized clinical trials of triple-combination treatment versus protease inhibitor monotherapy with detailed analyses of safety.
