The objective is to address the issue of uncertainty of causality in so-called medical cases, where an adverse outcome of treatment can be related to a combination of factors (medical error, the severe initial condition of the patient, etc.). A trend is observed to the significant increase in the number of favorable court decisions on patients' claims for compensation for moral injury, even if forensic medical experts concluded that there was only an indirect link between defects in medical care and the adverse outcome.

Current evidence suggests that severity and mortality of COVID-19 is higher in men than in women, whereas women might be at increased risk of COVID-19 reinfection and development of long COVID. Differences between sexes have been observed in other infectious diseases and in the response to vaccines. Sex-specific expression patterns of proteins mediating virus binding and entry, and divergent reactions of the immune and endocrine system, in particular the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, in response to acute stress might explain the higher severity of COVID-19 in men.

This study focuses on the synthesis of hybrid luminescent polysiloxanes and silicone rubbers grafted by organometallic rhenium(I) complexes using Cu(I)-catalyzed azido-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC). The design of the rhenium(I) complexes includes using a diimine ligand to create an MLCT luminescent center and the introduction of a triple C≡C bond on the periphery of the ligand environment to provide click-reaction capability. Poly(3-azidopropylmethylsiloxane--dimethylsiloxane) (N-PDMS) was synthesized for incorporation of azide function in polysiloxane chain.

A series of organometallic complexes containing an alkynylphosphinegold(I) fragment and a phenylene-terpyridine moiety connected together by flexible linker have been prepared using the specially designed terpyridine ligands. The compounds were studied crystallographically to reveal that all of them contain a linearly coordinated Au(I) atom and a free terpyridine moiety. The different orientations of the molecules relative to each other in the solid state determine the multiple noncovalent interactions such as antiparallel ππ stacking, CH-π, and CH-Au, but no aurophilic interactions are realized.

Trace amine-associated receptors (TAAR) recognize organic compounds, including primary, secondary, and tertiary amines. The TAAR5 receptor is known to be involved in the olfactory sensing of innate socially relevant odors encoded by volatile amines. However, emerging data point to the involvement of TAAR5 in brain functions, particularly in the emotional behaviors mediated by the limbic system which suggests its potential contribution to the pathogenesis of neuropsychiatric diseases.

Clinical trials of targeted therapy (TT) and immunotherapy (IT) for highly aggressive advanced melanoma have shown marked improvements in response and survival rates. However, real-world data on treatment patterns and clinical outcomes for patients with advanced BRAF V600 mutant melanoma are ultimately scarce. Background: While no "gold-standard" pharmacotherapy for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is yet established, essential phospholipids (EPLs) are reported to decrease steatosis and improve laboratory parameters.

Objective: This analysis evaluated adherence and satisfaction with EPL treatment as patient-reported outcomes and their relationship with changes in laboratory and ultrasound parameters among Russian patients with NAFLD.

Methods: Data were pooled from three observational Russian studies-MANPOWER (2015-2016), LIDER 1 (2012-2013), and LIDER 2 (2013)-in which EPLs were used for at least 12 weeks in the treatment of liver diseases and which measured both subjective and objective endpoints.

Characterization of the progression of cellular states during human embryogenesis can provide insights into the origin of pediatric diseases. We examined the transcriptional states of neural crest- and mesoderm-derived lineages differentiating into adrenal glands, kidneys, endothelium and hematopoietic tissue between post-conception weeks 6 and 14 of human development. Our results reveal transitions connecting the intermediate mesoderm and progenitors of organ primordia, the hematopoietic system and endothelial subtypes.

Crosstalk between the estrogen receptors and the receptor tyrosine kinases, including vascular endothelial growth factor receptor type II (VEGFR2), is a key mechanism in breast cancer resistance to antiestrogen therapy with tamoxifen. A high level of VEGFR2 expression in a tumor serves as a marker of tamoxifen resistance. The tamoxifen efficacy prognostic value of functional polymorphisms in the VEGFR2/KDR gene has not been established.

Targeting trace amine-associated receptor 1 (TAAR1) receptor continues to offer an intriguing opportunity to develop innovative therapies in different pharmacological settings. Pursuing our endeavors in the search for effective and safe human TAAR1 (TAAR1) ligands, we synthesized a new series of 1-amidino-4-phenylpiperazine derivatives (-) based on the application of a combined pharmacophore model/scaffold simplification strategy for an in-house series of biguanide-based TAAR1 agonists. Most of the novel compounds proved to be more effective than their prototypes, showing nanomolar EC values in functional activity at TAAR1 and low general cytotoxicity (CC > 80 µM) when tested on the Vero-76 cell line.

Dopamine transporter knockout (DATk) mice are known to demonstrate profound hyperactivity concurrent with elevated (5-fold) extracellular dopamine in the basal ganglia. At the same time, heterozygous DAT mice (DATh) demonstrate a 2-fold increase in dopamine levels yet only a marginal elevation in locomotor activity level. Another model of dopaminergic hyperactivity is the D3 dopamine receptor knockout (D3k) mice, which present only a modest hyperactivity phenotype, predominately manifested as stereotypical behaviors.

Trace amine-associated receptors (TAARs) are a class of sensory G protein-coupled receptors that detect biogenic amines, products of decarboxylation of amino acids. The majority of TAARs (TAAR2-TAAR9) have been described mainly in the olfactory epithelium and considered to be olfactory receptors sensing innate odors. However, there is recent evidence that one of the members of this family, TAAR5, is expressed also in the limbic brain areas receiving projection from the olfactory system and involved in the regulation of emotions.

The 2017 Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) observations of the central source in M87 have led to the first measurement of the size of a black-hole shadow. This observation offers a new and clean gravitational test of the black-hole metric in the strong-field regime. We show analytically that spacetimes that deviate from the Kerr metric but satisfy weak-field tests can lead to large deviations in the predicted black-hole shadows that are inconsistent with even the current EHT measurements.
