Introduction: Vetting and treatment verification, are now an expectation of threshold radiography competencies at qualification. Radiographer-led vetting contributes to the expedition of patients' treatment and management. However, the current state and the role of the radiographer in vetting medical imaging referrals remains unclear.

Predicting the outcome of plantar heel pain in adults: a systematic review of prognostic factors.

Background: Plantar Heel Pain (PHP) is a common disorder with many treatment pathways and is not self-limiting, hence prognostic information concerning recovery or recalcitrance is needed to guide practice. In this systematic review, we investigate which prognostic factors are associated with favourable or unfavourable PHP outcomes.

Methods: MEDLINE, Web of Science, EMBASE, Scopus and PubMed electronic bibliographic databases were searched for studies evaluating baseline patient characteristics associated with outcomes in prospective longitudinal cohorts or after specific interventions.

Humans use predictions to improve speech perception, especially in noisy environments. Here we use 7-T functional MRI (fMRI) to decode brain representations of written phonological predictions and degraded speech signals in healthy humans and people with selective frontal neurodegeneration (non-fluent variant primary progressive aphasia [nfvPPA]). Multivariate analyses of item-specific patterns of neural activation indicate dissimilar representations of verified and violated predictions in left inferior frontal gyrus, suggestive of processing by distinct neural populations.

Exploring the factors influencing meaningful engagement of persons living with advanced dementia through the Namaste Care Program: a qualitative descriptive study.

Background: Meaningful engagement has been described as active participation based on a person's interests, preferences, personhood, or perceived value. It has many benefits for persons living with dementia in long-term care (LTC) homes, including improvement in physical and cognitive function, and mental health. People with advanced dementia continue to need and benefit from inclusion and social contact in LTC, yet there is not a well-developed understanding of how to support this.

The Pattern of Expression of Human Placental Lactogen Across Normal, Lactational, and Malignant Mammary Epithelium.

The immunoexpression of human placental lactogen (hPL) in mammary epithelium is not well studied in the literature. Our overall objective was to delineate the distribution pattern of hPL across mammary epithelia of varying levels of differentiation. This is the first research to study the level of expression of hPL in human lactational change epithelium.

Oncological and functional outcomes of organ-preserving cystectomy versus standard radical cystectomy: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Introduction: Radical cystectomy (RC) is historically considered the gold standard treatment for muscle invasive and high-risk non-muscle invasive bladder cancer. However, this technique leaves the majority of patients of both sexes with poor sexual and urinary function. Organ-sparing cystectomy (OSC) techniques are emerging as an alternative to the standard procedure to preserve these functions, without compromising the oncological outcomes.

Single-incision, off-pump repair of a right aortic arch with an aberrant left subclavian artery and diverticulum of Kommerell in an adult.

Repairing a complete vascular ring in adults can be challenging. A right aortic arch with an aberrant retro-oesophageal left subclavian artery and persistent diverticulum of Kommerell represents one of the most common variants seen in adults, and the ring is completed by the left-sided ligamentum arteriosum. Most presentations in adults occur secondary to oesophageal compression, resulting in varying degrees of dysphagia.

Introduction: Radiographers can accurately report musculoskeletal and chest radiographs, but there is paucity of research comparing the performance of reporting radiographers (RRs) with consultant radiologists when interpreting and reporting abdominal radiographs. This study assessed interobserver agreement in the clinical setting between reporting radiographers and a consultant radiologist compared to an expert gastrointestinal radiologist in a District General Hospital. Major discordant reports affecting patient management were also examined.

Tricuspid Regurgitation in Acute Heart Failure: Predicting Outcome Using Novel Quantitative Echocardiography Techniques.

Background: The prognostic impact of tricuspid regurgitation (TR) in acute heart failure (AHF) remains uncertain. Methods: We retrospectively assessed 418 consecutive AHF patients who underwent comprehensive echocardiographic assessment within 24 h of study recruitment. TR was quantitatively assessed with 3 guideline-directed measures: regurgitant volumes (RgVol), effective regurgitant orifice area (ERO) and vena contracta (VC) diameter.

Spondylodiscitis-a cohort analysis of its identification and management.

Purpose: Discitis represents infection of the intervertebral disc and osteomyelitis of the adjacent end plates. Classically, patients present with fever and back pain. Varied presentations and lack of adherence to guidelines lead to great variation in its identification and management.

Bilateral branch pulmonary arterial reconstruction in the Alagille syndrome: The technique and its pitfalls.

This tutorial describes in detail the surgical technique of bilateral branch pulmonary arterial reconstruction in a 10-month-old boy with Alagille syndrome and advanced liver disease. The procedure was performed via a standard median sternotomy and moderate hypothermia and involves bilateral pulmonary branch arterioplasties combined with relief of valvular and supravalvular pulmonary stenosis and subtotal closure of secundum atrial septal defect. The patient presented with systemic/suprasystemic right ventricular pressure.

Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy Practice in United Kingdom: A Single-center Experience.

Objectives: This study sought to analyze the outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT) services provided by a tertiary hospital, in terms of types and duration of antimicrobials administered, and assess whether these services were in line with current good practice recommendations.

Methods: The electronic healthcare records of all stable patients with infectious diseases, aged ≥ 18 years, who received OPAT services between January 2019 and March 2021, were analyzed. For statistical analysis, the patients were divided into younger (< 65 years) and older (≥ 65 years) adults and the difference between them, in terms of healthcare resources utilization, was assessed.

Cryoballoon Pulmonary Vein Isolation as First-Line Treatment for Typical Atrial Flutter.

Objective: We aimed to compare cryoballoon pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) with standard radiofrequency cavotricuspid isthmus (CTI) ablation as first-line treatment for typical atrial flutter (AFL).

Methods: Cryoballoon Pulmonary Vein Isolation as First-Line Treatment for Typical Atrial Flutter was an international, multicentre, open with blinded assessment trial. Patients with CTI-dependent AFL and no documented atrial fibrillation (AF) were randomised to either cryoballoon PVI alone or radiofrequency CTI ablation.

Extracardiac Fontan completion after the Kawashima procedure with a custom-made bifurcated graft.

The patient is a 5-year-old girl who underwent a previous Kawashima procedure with a left-sided bidirectional cavopulmonary anastomosis as a stage I palliation for her functional single ventricle. Her cardiac defect consisted of an unbalanced, right-dominant complete atrioventricular septal defect and a double outlet right ventricle. She also had heterotaxy syndrome with left isomerism, polysplenia, and an interrupted inferior vena cava with azygous continuation to a right-sided superior vena cava.

Physiologic Flow Diversion Coiling Technique for Wide-Necked Aneurysms with an Asymmetric Bidirectional Flow at the Aneurysm Neck.

Purpose: Wide-necked aneurysms in the circle of Willis (CoW) are prone to recur due to reciprocal bidirectional flow. We present a novel concept of coil embolization to prevent recurrence that uses physiologic flow diversion at the CoW.
