Background: With increasing focus on patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) in chronic rheumatic diseases, we aimed to evaluate the self-reported physical and psychosocial health in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) compared to matched population-based controls. Furthermore, we aimed to study the association of patient- and physician-reported outcome measures in JIA with patient-reported physical disability.
Methods: We used data from a Norwegian JIA cohort study (NorJIA), including clinical characteristics and outcome measures in participants with JIA and sex- and age-matched population-based controls.

Childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is associated with executive dysfunction in long-term survivorship. This is evidenced by subjective and objective measures of executive functions (EFs). However, the two measures do not always align, and the EF discrepancy in this population is understudied.

Bloodstream infections (BSIs) are a severe public health threat due to their rapid progression into critical conditions like sepsis. This study presents a novel eXplainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) framework to predict BSIs using historical electronic health records (EHRs). Leveraging a dataset from St.

Introduction: Urine epidermal growth factor (uEGF) has been found to be inversely associated with kidney function loss, whereas its associations with cardiovascular disease (CVD) and mortality have not been studied.
Methods: We measured baseline uEGF levels among 2346 Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial (SPRINT) participants with an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) < 60 ml/min per 1.73 m.

Background And Purpose: Physical function and pain are the most important outcomes following total knee arthroplasty (TKA). These can be evaluated by patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), or by an anchor question. The primary aim of the study was to evaluate whether a simple anchor question can replace KOOS-PS in assessing postoperative knee function until 1-year follow-up, evaluated by analyzing the agreement between the 2 methods using the diagnostic odds ratio (DOR).

An extensive network of microbial-host interactions exists in the gut, making the gut microbiome a complex ecosystem to untangle. The microbial composition and the fecal metabolites are important readouts to investigate intricate microbiota-diet-host interplay. However, this ecosystem is dynamic, and it is of interest to understand the degree and timescale of changes occurring in the gut microbiota, during disease as well as in healthy individuals.

Purpose: Extent of resection, MGMT promoter methylation status, age, functional level, and residual tumor volume are established prognostic factors for overall survival in glioblastoma patients. Preoperative tumor volume has also been investigated, but the results have been inconclusive. We hypothesized that the surface area and the shape were more representative of the tumor's infiltrative capacities, and thus, the purpose of this study was to assess the prognostic value of tumor size and shape in patients with glioblastoma.

Background: Being born small for gestational age (SGA) is a risk factor for motor difficulties. Previous reviews exploring this topic are mostly focused on children born preterm. We aimed to review the literature to determine the association between being born SGA at term and motor outcomes.

Identifying biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease (AD) is crucial, due to its complex pathology, which involves dysfunction in lipid transport, contributing to neuroinflammation, synaptic loss, and impaired amyloid-β clearance. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) is able to quantify and stratify lipoproteins. The study investigated lipoproteins in blood from AD patients, aiming to evaluate their diagnostic potential.

Aim: While modern treatment has improved rectal cancer (RC) survival, it can cause late side effects that impact health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The aim of this study was to evaluate HRQoL and late effects 1 year after diagnosis in patients who underwent major resection for Stage I-III RC.
Method: All patients with RC registered in the Cancer Registry of Norway between 1 January 2019 and 31 December 2020, aged ≥ 18 years, and a control group without colorectal cancer were invited to participate in the study by answering a questionnaire on HRQoL and late effects.

Prostate tumor heterogeneity is a major obstacle when studying the biological mechanisms of molecular markers. Increased gene expression levels of secreted frizzled-related protein 4 (SFRP4) is a biomarker in aggressive prostate cancer. To understand how SFRP4 relates to prostate cancer we performed comprehensive spatial and multiomics analysis of the same prostate cancer tissue samples.

The advent of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) as treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a paradigm in molecularly targeted cancer therapy. Nonetheless, TKI-insensitive leukemia stem cells (LSCs) persist in most patients even after years of treatment and are imperative for disease progression as well as recurrence during treatment-free remission (TFR). Here, we have generated high-resolution single-cell multiomics maps from CML patients at diagnosis, retrospectively stratified by BCR::ABL1 (%) following 12 months of TKI therapy.

Background: Insomnia symptoms that influence daytime functioning are common among adults with type 2 diabetes. However, no previous study has examined if levels of physical activity differ among adults with diabetes with and without insomnia symptoms. Thus, the aim of this study was to assess the difference in total physical activity (TPA) and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) levels in individuals with diabetes with and without insomnia symptoms.

Background: Although it is widely assumed that avoidant personality disorder (AvPD) originates in childhood, there is little prospective research to substantiate this claim. We therefore aimed to determine whether presumed childhood risk factors predict AvPD traits at 16 years.
Methods: A population-based sample (n = 1,077; 50.

Cesarean section (CS) is a life-saving procedure when performed for the right indication but carries substantial risks, specifically during subsequent pregnancies. The aim of this study was to evaluate obstetric outcomes for women 5 years after a CS performed by medical doctors and associate clinicians. This was a prospective multi-center observational study of women who had a CS at any of nine hospitals in Sierra Leone.

Background: Evidence suggests dysregulated immune functions in the pathophysiology of Autism spectrum disorder (ASD), although specific immune mechanisms are yet to be identified.
Methods: We assessed circulating levels of 25 immune/neuroinflammatory markers in a large ASD sample (n = 151) and matched controls (n = 72) using linear models. In addition, we performed global brain transcriptomics analyses of relevant immune-related genes.

Background: Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) can cause left atrial (LA) and left ventricular (LV) remodelling, which is linked to atrial fibrillation (AF). Whether continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) can reverse LA and LV remodelling in patients with OSA and paroxysmal AF (PAF) has yet to be studied. We assessed the impact of CPAP treatment on LA and LV size and function in patients with OSA and PAF before and after catheter ablation.

Aims/hypothesis: Some studies find an increased risk of type 1 diabetes in children exposed to antibiotics. We investigated if exposure to antibiotics increases the risk of latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA) and type 2 diabetes.
Methods: We used data from a Swedish case-control study (Epidemiological Study of Risk Factors for LADA and Type 2 Diabetes [ESTRID]: LADA, n=597; type 2 diabetes, n=2065; control participants matched on participation time, n=2386) and a case-control study nested within the Norwegian Trøndelag Health Study (HUNT) (n=82/1279/2050).

With the increasing prevalence of Crohn's disease (CD), treatment options for patients who fail conventional and advanced therapy are highly needed. Therefore, we explored the safety and efficacy of extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP) using 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) and blue light (405 nm). Patients with active CD who failed or were intolerant to biological therapy were eligible.
