Scand J Trauma Resusc Emerg Med

December 2024

Department of Emergency Medicine and Pre-Hospital Services, St. Olav's University Hospital, 7006, Trondheim, Norway.

Background: Norwegian hospitals employed individual trauma triage criteria until 2015 when nationwide criteria were implemented. There is a lack of empirical evidence regarding adherence to Norwegian national criteria for activation of the trauma team (NTrC) and the decision-making processes regarding trauma team activation (TTA) within Norwegian trauma hospitals. The objectives of this study were to investigate institutional adherence to the NTrC and to investigate similarities and differences in the decision-making process leading to TTA in Norwegian trauma hospitals.

Article Synopsis
  • This study examines sick leave patterns in patients with mental health issues one year before and after starting treatment at a public mental health clinic.
  • Before treatment, only 6.3% were on sick leave, but this rose dramatically to 69.5% when treatment began; post-treatment, 63% were off sick leave.
  • The findings suggest that while treatment leads to some improvement in sick leave status, many patients still struggle with symptoms and functionality, highlighting the need for ongoing support and evaluation, especially for those who receive work assessment allowance (WAA).

Scand J Trauma Resusc Emerg Med

November 2024

Department of Emergency Medicine and Pre-Hospital Services, St. Olav's University Hospital, Trondheim, Norway.

Background: Pre-hospital incidents involving pediatric and neonatal patients are infrequent, and clinical characteristics and care for these patients differ from the adult population. Lack of knowledge, guidelines, and experience can make pre-hospital pediatric care challenging, and there is limited research on the epidemiology and best practice of care for this population. We examined the pre-hospital pediatric population in the county of Sør-Trøndelag, Norway, to improve our understanding of this population in our region.

Biparietal diameter vs crown-rump length as standard parameter for late first-trimester pregnancy dating.

Ultrasound Obstet Gynecol

December 2024

National Center for Fetal Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, St Olav's University Hospital, Trondheim, Norway.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study compares the accuracy of two fetal measurement methods, biparietal diameter (BPD) and crown-rump length (CRL), for predicting gestational age during late first and early second trimesters using data from over 11,000 pregnancies in Norway.
  • - Researchers found that both BPD and CRL offer similar precision in predicting gestational age, with most predictions differing by only a few days; however, treating induced births incorrectly can lead to significant biases.
  • - The conclusion emphasizes that while BPD and CRL are equally precise, BPD is generally preferred in clinical settings because it is easier and quicker to measure, making it practical for use throughout the entire pregnancy.
