Osteoarthritis Cartilage
November 2021
Osteoarthritis Research Unit, University of Montreal Hospital Research Centre (CRCHUM), Montreal, Canada. Electronic address:
Objective: To examine if relationships between knee osteoarthritis (OA) progression with knee moments and muscle activation during gait vary between patients with non-traumatic and post-traumatic knee OA.
Design: This longitudinal study included participants with non-traumatic (n = 17) and post-traumatic (n = 18) knee OA; the latter group had a previous anterior cruciate ligament rupture. Motion capture cameras, force plates, and surface electromyography measured knee moments and lower extremity muscle activation during gait.

Division of Orthopaedic Surgery, Jewish General Hospital and McGill University, Canada. Electronic address:
Objective: The objective was to compare muscle activation and knee mechanics during gait between participants with non-traumatic knee osteoarthritis (OA), post-traumatic knee OA, and healthy adults.
Design: Participants with non-traumatic knee OA (n = 22), post-traumatic knee OA (n = 19), and healthy adults (n = 22) completed gait trials for this observational, cross-sectional study. Post-traumatic OA group had a history of traumatic anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture.

St Mary's Hospital Research Centre,Montreal,Quebec,Canada.
Background: The delirium index (DI) is a valid measure of delirium severity. We proposed to describe longitudinal patterns of severity scores in older long-term care (LTC) residents.
Methods: A prospective cohort study of 280 residents in seven LTC facilities in Montreal and Quebec City, Canada, was conducted.

St. Mary's Research Centre, St Mary's Hospital Center, Montreal, Quebec.
Objective: The objective of this study is to explore whether the use of medications that antagonize mediators of inflammatory responses reduces the risk of delirium in older adults.
Methods: A nested case-control study was conducted using data from a prospective study of delirium in older long-term care residents from 7 long-term care facilities in Montreal and Quebec City, Canada. The Confusion Assessment Method was used to diagnose incident delirium.

Department of Psychiatry, St Mary's Hospital Center and McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the course of delirium in older long-term care (LTC) residents.
Methods: A prospective cohort study of 279 residents in seven LTC facilities in Montreal and Quebec City, Canada, was conducted. The Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE), Confusion Assessment Method (CAM), Delirium Index (DI), Hierarchic Dementia Scale, Barthel Index, and Cornell Scale for Depression were completed at baseline.

Purpose Of Review: There are two contradictory views on the prognosis of delirium in older hospital patients. On one hand, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, 4th Text Revision (DSM-IV-TR), describes delirium as a transient cognitive disorder, the majority of affected individuals having a full recovery. On the other hand, longitudinal studies of delirium in this population report that the outcomes are poor.

Objective: To determine the impact of geriatric post-discharge services on mental state.
Methods: Three computer databases, MEDLINE, HealthSTAR and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews were searched for relevant articles; the bibliographies of retrieved articles were searched for additional references.
Results: 11 trials were located that met the four inclusion criteria: (i) original study; (ii) published in English or French; (iii) controlled trial (randomized or non-randomized) of a geriatric post-discharge service; and (iv) including at least one measure of mental state.
