Current practice regarding the diagnosis and treatment of anorectal malformations in female patients: a multicenter questionnaire survey in Japan.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the current practices in the diagnosis and surgical management of anorectal malformations (ARMs) in female patients in Japan, specifically focusing on anovestibular fistula (AVF), rectovaginal fistula (RVF), and persistent cloaca (PC).

Methods: An anonymous online survey was conducted with 61 institutional members of the Japanese Study Group for Anorectal Anomalies.

Results: Sixty-one institutions (100%) completed the survey.

Arginine vasopressin (AVP), which induces vasoconstriction and conserves solute-free water when released during high plasma osmolality, is secreted through 2 mechanisms: osmoregulation and baroregulation. This study aims to clarify the mechanisms and influencing factors for non-osmotic AVP secretion in adult patients with congenital heart disease (CHD). AVP levels were measured in 74 adults with CHD.

Background And Objective: This study aims to assess the cost-effectiveness of early physician consultation and guideline-based intervention to prevent endometriosis and/or disease progression using oral contraceptive (OC) and progestin compared to follow-up of self-care for dysmenorrhea in Japan.

Methods: A yearly-transmitted Markov model of five major health states with four sub-medical states was constructed. Transition probabilities among health and medical states were derived from Japanese epidemiological patient surveys and converted to appropriate parameters for inputting into the model.

A comparison of tacrolimus and cyclosporine combined with methotrexate for graft-versus-host disease prophylaxis, stratified by stem cell source: a retrospective nationwide survey.

This nationwide, retrospective study compared the efficacy of cyclosporine and tacrolimus with methotrexate (CsA/MTX and TAC/MTX) for acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) prevention and transplant-related outcomes. Data were obtained from the Transplant Registry Unified Management Program of the Japan Society for Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation for ≥ 16-year-old leukemia patients who received CsA/MTX or TAC/MTX after bone marrow transplantation and peripheral blood stem cell transplantation from serological HLA-matched related donors (MRD), HLA 8/8 allele-matched, or one allele-mismatched unrelated bone marrow (UBM), or 0-2 antigen-mismatched unrelated cord blood (UCB) transplantation between January 2005 and December 2009. Separate analyses were performed for each cohort.

Fontan completions over 10 years after Glenn procedures.

Objective: Despite the broadened indications for Fontan procedure, there are patients who could not proceed to Fontan procedure because of the strict Fontan criteria during the early period. Some patients suffer from post-Glenn complications such as hypoxia, arrhythmia, or fatigue with exertion long after the Glenn procedure. We explored the possibility of Fontan completion for those patients.

About 20 years ago, Reaven presented the concept that a series of related factors such as hyperinsulinemia, hypertension, low high-density lipoprotein (HDL)-cholesterol levels, and hypertriglyceridemia tended to co-occur in the same individual and that this risk-factor clustering and its association with insulin resistance might be of critical importance in the underlying cause of cardiovascular disease. This risk-factor clustering called as "syndrome X" has now become "metabolic syndrome" (METS). Nowadays, METS is becoming well known as a condition of high-risk for the subsequent development of ischemic cardiovascular disease in Western population as well as Japanese population and it is proved that the prevalence of METS is very common.

In the web site we kept to be informed of the pollen forecast, daily dispersed pollens, and medical information being renewed frequently of prevention and therapy for pollinosis. For the principle of therapy, we adopted the guideline for allergic rhinitis which was produced by Japan Allergic Societies and recommended visitors to get standard therapy for pollinosis.
