(1) Background: The activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT)- based clot waveform analysis (CWA) quantitatively extends information obtained from the APTT waveform through its derivatives. However, pre-analytical variables including reagent effects on the CWA parameters are poorly understood and must be standardized as a potential diagnostic assay. (2) Methods: CWA was first analysed with patient samples to understand reagent lot variation in three common APTT reagents: Pathromtin SL, Actin FS, and Actin FSL.

Objective: To assess whether tamsulosin may aid emptying of the lower urinary tract in posterior urethral valves patients, mitigating the likelihood of progressing to clean intermittent catheterization (CIC) or need for renal replacement therapy.
Methods: We reviewed a prospective institutional database containing posterior urethral valves patients treated between January 2000 and January 2022. After assessing baseline characteristics, Kaplan-Meier survival curves and log-rank tests were generated to assess differences in clinically significant outcomes (progression to CIC, dialysis, or kidney transplantation) between those prescribed tamsulosin and those who were not.

Objective: Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) encompasses a spectrum of neurodegenerative disorders, including behavioural variant FTD (bvFTD), semantic variant primary progressive aphasia (svPPA) and non-fluent variant PPA (nfvPPA). While a strong genetic component is implicated in FTD, genetic FTD in Asia is less frequently reported. We aimed to investigate the frequency of Southeast Asian FTD patients harbouring known genetic FTD variants.

Unlabelled: Closed reduction and internal fixation (CRIF) of closed hand fractures in the main operating room (OR) is much more expensive than outside of the OR. However, there is a reluctance to fix fractures out of the OR due to the perceived increase in infections. Our goal was to prospectively analyze the infection rates of performing CRIF of closed metacarpal and phalangeal fractures in these two settings.

Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) is a common cause of Young Onset Dementia and has diverse clinical manifestations involving behavior, executive function, language and motor function, including parkinsonism. Up to 50% of FTD patients report a positive family history, supporting a strong genetic basis, particularly in cases with both FTD and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (FTD-ALS). Mutations in three genes are associated with the majority of familial FTD (fFTD) cases - microtubule associated protein tau gene (), granulin precursor (), and hexanucleotide repeat expansions in chromosome 9 open reading frame 72- SMCR8complex subunit (C9orf72) while mutations in other genes such as optineurin () have rarely been reported.

Background: Determining biomechanical changes in vaginal tissue with tissue stretch is critical for understanding the role of mechanotransduction on vaginal tissue healing. Noncontact dynamic optical coherence elastography (OCE) can quantify biomechanical changes in vaginal tissues noninvasively. Improved vaginal tissue healing will reduce postoperative complications from vaginal surgery.

To identify genes associated with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) in South-East Asia, targeted exome sequencing and C9orf72 genotyping was performed in 198 subjects (52 patients with FTD and 146 healthy controls) who were screened for mutations in 12 FTD-associated genes. We detected a homozygous TREM2 R47C mutation in a patient with behavioral variant FTD without bone cysts or bone-associated phenotype. Two novel nonsense GRN mutations in 3 FTD patients from the Philippines were detected, but no known pathogenic mutations in other FTD-associated genes were found.

Introduction: Concerns regarding the quality, credibility, and applicability of recently published pediatric urinary tract infection (UTI) clinical practice guidelines have been raised due to the inconsistencies of recommendations between them. We aimed to determine the quality of the recent clinical practice guidelines on pediatric UTI by using the Appraisal of Guidelines Research and Evaluation (AGREE II) instrument, and summarize the standard of care in diagnosis and management of pediatric UTI from the top three clinical practice guidelines.
Methods: A systematic literature search was performed on medical literature electronic databases and international guideline repository websites.

Objective: High-sensitivity troponin (hs-Tn) assays need to be applied appropriately to improve diagnosis and patient outcomes in acute coronary syndromes (ACS).
Methods: Experts from Asia Pacific convened in 2015 to provide data-driven consensus-based, region-specific recommendations and develop an algorithm for the appropriate incorporation of this assay into the ACS assessment and treatment pathway.
Results: Nine recommendations were developed by the expert panel: (1) troponin is the preferred cardiac biomarker for diagnostic assessment of ACS and is indicated for patients with symptoms of possible ACS; (2) hs-Tn assays are recommended; (3) serial testing is required for all patients; (4) testing should be performed at presentation and 3 hours later; (5) gender-specific cut-off values should be used for hs-Tn I assays; (6) hs-Tn I level >10 times the upper limit of normal should be considered to 'rule in' a diagnosis of ACS; (7) dynamic change >50% in hs-Tn I level from presentation to 3-hour retest identifies patients at high risk for ACS; (8) where only point-of-care testing is available, patients with elevated readings should be considered at high risk, while patients with low/undetectable readings should be retested after 6 hours or sent for laboratory testing and (9) regular education on the appropriate use of troponin tests is essential.

As a part of an international study on the molecular analysis of Diffuse Large B-cell Lymphoma (DLBCL), a robust protocol for gene expression analysis from RNA extraction to qRT-PCR using Formalin Fixed Paraffin Embedded tissues was developed. Here a study was conducted to define a strategy to validate the previously reported 6-gene (LMO2, BCL6, FN1, CCND2, SCYA3 and BCL2) model as predictor of prognosis in DLBCL. To avoid variation, all samples were tested in a single centre and single platform.
