Purpose: This study is aimed at analyzing clinical outcome, absence of stroke recurrence, revascularization, and complications and long-term follow-up in the surgical treatment of moyamoya angiopathy (MMA) using the multiple burr holes (MBH) technique with dura opening and arachnoid preservation as a single procedure. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first to describe an MBH technique with arachnoid preservation.
Method: We retrospectively reviewed all patients operated from June 2001 to March 2021, for a symptomatic and progressive MMA operated with opening of the dura but arachnoid preservation.

There is a lack of published guidelines on the management of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) undergoing procedures that require anaesthesia and respective advice is largely based on retrospective studies or case reports. The aim of this paper is to provide recommendations for anaesthetists and neurologists for the management of patients with MS requiring anaesthesia. This review covers issues related to the anaesthetic management of patients with MS, with a focus on preoperative assessment, choice of anaesthetic techniques and agents, side-effects of drugs used during anaesthesia and their potential impact on the disease evolution, drug interactions that may occur, and the need to use monitoring devices.

The incidence of melanoma is continuously increasing over time. Melanoma is the most aggressive skin cancer, significantly reducing quality of life and survival rates of patients at advanced stages. Therefore, early diagnosis remains the key to change the prognosis of patients with melanoma.

Purpose/background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the short and midterm results of aortic coarctation (AoCo) stenting in an adolescent and adult population.
Methods: All patients with a AoCo older than 14 years treated by stent placement between December 2000 and November 2016 were included in this study. Twenty-eight patients with an invasive peak systolic pressure gradient >20 mmHg were identified.

Objective: Immunoglobulin A vasculitis (IgAV) usually occurs following viral respiratory tract infection. In the context of the global coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, we describe a case series of patients who developed IgAV following SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Methods: This national multicenter retrospective study included patients with IgAV following SARS-CoV-2 infection from January 1, 2020, to January 1, 2022.

Definition and management of arterial hypertension in children and adolescents are uncertain, due to different positions of current guidelines. The European Society of Cardiology task-force, constituted by Associations and Councils with interest in arterial hypertension, has reviewed current literature and evidence, to produce a Consensus Document focused on aspects of hypertension in the age range of 6-16 years, including definition, methods of measurement of blood pressure, clinical evaluation, assessment of hypertension-mediated target organ damage, evaluation of possible vascular, renal and hormonal causes, assessment and management of concomitant risk factors with specific attention for obesity, and anti-hypertensive strategies, especially focused on life-style modifications. The Consensus Panel also suggests aspects that should be studied with high priority, including generation of multi-ethnic sex, age and height specific European normative tables, implementation of randomized clinical trials on different diagnostic and therapeutic aspects, and long-term cohort studies to link with adult cardiovascular risk.

Purpose: Frail patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma have an inferior outcome, mainly because of a high discontinuation rate due to toxicity. We designed a phase II trial specifically for frail patients, evaluating the efficacy and tolerability of ixazomib-daratumumab-low-dose-dexamethasone (Ixa-Dara-dex).
Methods: Sixty-five patients, who were frail according to the International Myeloma Working Group frailty index, were treated with nine induction cycles Ixa-Dara-dex followed by maintenance with Ixa-Dara for a maximum of 2 years.

Background: Endovascular balloon angioplasty is a common practice to treat femoropopliteal arterial lesions. The precise balloon inflation duration to obtain the best lesion dilatation is unclear. The aim of this study was to assess angiographic images after 3- and 5-minute balloon inflation in femoropopliteal de-novo atherosclerotic lesions.

Object: Several scientific papers report clinical symptoms, indications, complications and outcomes of brainstem cavernous malformation (BSCM) surgery without reporting on the occurrence of postoperative Holmes tremor (HT). Our purpose is to report our experience with HT in a monocentric series of resected brainstem cavernomas.
Methods: We reviewed all the BSCM surgical records between 2002 and 2018 at Saint-Luc University Hospital's Department of Neurosurgery, Brussels and selected patients developing HT postoperatively.

Background: Despite an often severe lack of surgeons and surgical equipment, the rate-limiting step in surgical care for the nearly five billion people living in resource-limited areas is frequently the absence of safe anesthesia. During disaster relief and surgical missions, critical care physicians (CCPs), who are already competent in complex airway and ventilator management, can help address the need for skilled anesthetists in these settings.
Methods: We provided a descriptive analysis that CCPs were trained to provide safe general anesthesia, monitored anesthesia care (MAC), and spinal anesthesia using a specifically designed and simple syllabus.

Background And Objectives: Young patients suffering from rhythm disorders have a negative impact in their quality of life. In recent years, ablation has become the first-line therapy for supraventricular arrhythmias in children. In the light of the current expertise and advancement in the field, we decided to evaluate the quality of life in young patients with supraventricular arrhythmias before and after a percutaneous ablation procedure.

The global prevalence of diabetes is predicted to increase dramatically in the coming decades as the population grows and ages, in parallel with the rising burden of overweight and obesity, in both developed and developing countries. Cardiovascular disease represents the principal cause of death and morbidity among people with diabetes, especially in those with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Adults with diabetes have 2-4 times increased cardiovascular risk compared with adults without diabetes, and the risk rises with worsening glycaemic control.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (CPI) are increasingly being used in oncology, and many autoimmune side effects have been described. Diabetes mellitus (DM) has been reported in approximately 1% of subjects treated with programmed cell death-1 and programmed death ligand 1 (PD-1/PD-L1) inhibitors, alone or in association with CTLA-4 inhibitors. In the present mini-review, we aimed to describe different clinical pictures and pathophysiology associated with these forms of diabetes.
