Introduction: Minimally invasive surgery aims to reduce surgical trauma and post-operative morbidity. Natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery is a safe and valid surgical option for hysterectomy. The present systematic review aims to compare hysterectomy by transvaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (vNOTES) with laparoscopic hysterectomy in terms of efficacy, surgical outcomes, complications, and cost.

Outcomes of Cancer Patients with COVID-19: The Virginia Commonwealth University Experience.

Purpose: The cancer population is significantly impacted by coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) due to inherent risks of infection imposed by malignancy and therapeutic agents. Evaluating risk factors in this group will lead to improved guidelines for the treatment of malignancy in the setting of a COVID-19 pandemic.

Patients And Methods: This retrospective study reviewed 295 inpatient cancer patients positive for COVID-19 between February 2020 and December 2021 to determine specific risk factors of mortality and associated complications.

This study investigated the reading comprehension scores of students with reading and language difficulties after reading a passage with and without text-to-speech (TTS). Students, ages 8 to 12 years, read five passages under the following conditions: (a) silent read, (b) read aloud, (c) listen only, (d) TTS with no highlighting, and (e) TTS with highlighting. A rare case of vasculitis in cystic fibrosis: A clinical case.

Clinical outcomes of MANTA vs suture-based vascular closure devices after transcatheter aortic valve replacement: An updated meta-analysis.

Objective: A recently published randomized control trial showed different results with suture-based vascular closure device (VCD) than plug-based VCD in patients undergoing transfemoral transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). The learning curve for MANTA device is steep, while the learning curve for suture based VCD is shallow as the devices are quite different. In this meta-analysis, we have compared suture-based (ProGlide and Prostar XL) vs plug-based VCDs (MANTA).

Background: Hereditary angioedema (HAE), a potentially life-threatening genetic disorder due to C1 inhibitor deficiency in most cases, is characterized by sudden and/or recurrent attacks of angioedema (subcutaneous/submucosal swellings). The global World Allergy Organization (WAO)/European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) International guideline for HAE management is comprehensive, but the implementation of this guideline may require regional adaptation considering the diversity in disease awareness, type of medical care systems, and access to diagnostics and treatment. The aim of this Delphi initiative was to build on the global guideline and provide regional adaptation to address the concerns and specific needs in the Middle East.

Using Zebrafish Embryos to Study Pharmacological Effects on Neural Development in Hands-On Neurobiology Laboratory Activities.

Undergraduate neurobiology courses cover neural development as a major theme but there are few labs to provide hands-on experience with these topics. Here we share a 3-week set of lab activities using zebrafish embryos that allow students to see the direct effect of drug exposure on physical and emotional development. In these labs, student expose new embryos (Lab 1) to the environmental toxin lithium chloride, which inhibits anterior development and produces an eyeless phenotype in fixed larvae (Lab 2), and to psychiatric medications fluoxetine and quetiapine, which alter anxiety-like behavior measured live in grown juveniles (Lab 3).

Inflammatory monocytes (iMOs) and B cells are the main targets of the poxvirus ectromelia virus (ECTV) in the lymph nodes of mice and play distinct roles in surviving the infection. Infected and bystander iMOs control ECTV's systemic spread, preventing early death, while B cells make antibodies that eliminate ECTV. Our work demonstrates that within an infected animal that survives ECTV infection, intrinsic and bystander infection of iMOs and B cells differentially control the transcription of genes important for immune cell function and, perhaps, cell identity.
