The scarcity of existing and novel therapies for brain cancer has significantly affected the survival rate of glioblastoma patients. Mebendazole (MBZ), an antiparasitic agent demonstrated promising activity against brain cancer. However, poor solubility, multiple polymorphs, and insufficient permeability through blood-brain barrier (BBB) restricts its therapeutic efficacy through parenteral administration.

Bidirectional communication between the brain and gastrointestinal tract, called the gut-brain axis, is linked with our emotions. Intestinal lipids, hormones, and molecules, such as bile acids (BAs), have been known to impact our mood, motivation, and emotions via the gut-brain axis. BAs are synthesized from cholesterol in the liver and serve as a regulator of lipid metabolism and hormonal secretion in the intestine.

There is a growing body of research on the problems older and disabled people face with authentication systems and a range of solutions have been developed. However, this research has not been integrated across user groups and solutions usually only target one or two groups. This research has attempted to integrate the empirical research findings across studies conducted with people with visual, physical, and intellectual disabilities, people dyslexia and older people.

Proteolysis targeting chimera (PROTAC) technology represents a groundbreaking development in drug discovery, leveraging the ubiquitin‒proteasome system to specifically degrade proteins responsible for the disease. PROTAC is characterized by its unique heterobifunctional structure, which comprises two functional domains connected by a linker. The linker plays a pivotal role in determining PROTAC's biodegradative efficacy.

Introduction: Little is known about how pharmacists' attitudes and stigma toward naloxone and Medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) influence effective linkage to treatment. We examine the psychometrics of a new Pharmacist Opioid Use Disorder Perceptions Questionnaire (P-OUDP-Q), a multidimensional measure to examine pharmacists' stigma and perceptions related to MOUD in the New York State (NYS) site of the HEALing Communities Study.
Methods: The study recruited a sample of 324 pharmacists from 16 counties in NYS between January and June 2022.

Combined pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema (CPFE) is a distinct syndrome associated with heavy smoking. The fibrotic component of the disease is generally believed to be superimposed on previously existing pulmonary emphysema, but the mechanisms responsible for these changes remain poorly understood. To better understand the pathogenesis of CPFE, we performed a series of experiments that focused on the relationships between lung elastic fibers, cigarette smoke, and secondary lung injury.

Spiritual care is a critical component of hospice and palliative medicine; however, physicians frequently lack the necessary competencies to adequately address patients' spiritual needs. This study aims to examine the spiritual care competencies of physicians as reflected in their care notes, thereby providing insights into their approaches for managing spiritual distress. A narrative inquiry approach was employed to qualitatively analyze interaction notes from 30 palliative care patients experiencing spiritual distress.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and its development into nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) are challenging health concerns globally. Clinically, the prevalence and severity of NAFLD/NASH are higher in men than in premenopausal women. NAFLD is strongly correlated with obesity, both of which are tied to high-fat/fructose-rich western diets.

Introduction: American Indian and Alaska Native People (AI/AN) have experienced discrimination stemming from sustained attempts to erase AI/AN People and their culture or livelihood. Research identifying the types of discrimination experienced by AI/AN People is needed to help individuals recognize discrimination in daily life. We examine experiences of discrimination among an urban AI/AN population using a mixed methods approach.

Background: Restricted and repetitive behaviors (RRBs) are highly prevalent and reduce function in individuals with fragile X syndrome (FXS). As transdiagnostic features of intellectual disability, elevated rates of RRBs in FXS could represent various underlying known co-occurring conditions in FXS such as anxiety or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), yet this distinction has not been investigated. Further, delineating whether RRBs are more indicative of anxiety or ASD in FXS may clarify phenotypic profiles within FXS and improve differential assessment.

Overexpression of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters, particularly ABCB1 and ABCG2, strongly correlates with multidrug resistance (MDR), rendering cancer chemotherapy ineffective. Exploration and identification of novel inhibitors targeting ABCB1 and ABCG2 are necessary to overcome the related MDR. Mobocertinib is an approved EGFR/HER2 inhibitor for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with EGFR exon 20 insertion mutations.

Background: Self-guided Internet-based cognitive behavior therapy (iCBT) for migraine interventions could improve access to care, but there is poor evidence of their efficacy.
Methods: A three-arm randomized controlled trial compared: iCBT focused on psychoeducation, self-monitoring and skills training (SPHERE), iCBT focused on identifying and managing personal headache triggers (PRISM) and a waitlist control. The primary treatment outcome was a ≥ 50% reduction in monthly headache days at 4 months post-randomization.

Dysregulation of receptor tyrosine kinase c-MET is known to promote tumor development by stimulating oncogenic signaling pathways in different cancers, including pediatric neuroblastoma (NB). NB is an extracranial solid pediatric cancer that accounts for almost 15% of all pediatric cancer-related deaths, with less than a 50% long-term survival rate. In this study, we analyzed a large cohort of primary NB patient data and revealed that high expression strongly correlates with poor overall survival, disease progression, relapse, and high levels in NB patients.

Background: Many young adults report sleep problems, including insufficient sleep and poor sleep quality. Young adults are heavily reliant on electronic devices, even using them during bedtime with adverse effects on sleep. Given the importance of adequate sleep, the present study examined the daily association between using electronic devices during bedtime and sleep in a diverse sample of young adults with poor sleep.

In the HiTOP system, psychopathology is grouped hierarchically from super-spectra, spectra, and subfactors at the upper levels to homogeneous symptom components and maladaptive traits and their constituent symptoms, and maladaptive behaviors at the lower levels. HiTOP has the potential to improve clinical outcomes by planning treatment based on symptom severity rather than heterogeneous diagnoses, targeting treatment across different levels of the hierarchy, and assessing distress and impairment separately from the observed symptom profile.

Onchocerciasis (river blindness) is a debilitating tropical disease that causes significant eye and skin damage, afflicting millions worldwide. As global efforts shift from disease management to elimination, vaccines have become crucial supplementary tools. The Onchocerciasis Vaccine for Africa (TOVA) Initiative was established in 2015, to advance at least one vaccine candidate initially targeting onchocerciasis in infants and children below 5 years of age, through Phase I human trials by 2025.

Objective: Data-driven methodologies in healthcare necessitate labeled data for effective decision-making. However, medical data, particularly in unstructured formats, such as clinical notes, often lack explicit labels, making manual annotation challenging and tedious.
Methods: This paper introduces a novel deep active learning framework designed to facilitate the annotation process for multiclass text classification, specifically using the SOAP (subjective, objective, assessment, plan) framework, a widely recognized medical protocol.
